Interviews
Paxton Ingram – Bad Luck
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) Urban Pop
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Rihanna, Troye Sivan, Drake and most recently Dua Lipa.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Bad Luck.”
A) “Bad Luck” is about falling in love at the wrong time, a fool who knows they’re fighting a losing battle. I wrote this record with amazing writers who happened to great friends of mine and it was such an effortless process because we all related so much!
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I think it’s a combination of the raw emotion in my voice and attack of the lyric that resonate with my fans. It’s also the context. I think we all can relate to having that thing in our lives that’s sort of “toxic.”
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) I don’t want to get into too much detail about the video. But I can say it explains the story even more.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) I love creating melody first so having music before the lyrics is so crucial to my creative process.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I try to have as much input as possible without making the producer feel like I’m micromanaging or not giving them the trust they need to really excel.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Paxton Ingram performance?
A) Fans can expect nothing short of a good time. I love performing live. It’s a high for me and you can definitely see that at one of my shows.
Q) Can fans expect an EP or full album from you in the near future?
A) I can’t say just yet, but fans can expect a lot of new music this year!
Q) Fans remember you from your incredible time on “The Voice.” Have you kept in touch with former coach Blake Shelton?
A) Yes, Blake Shelton was a huge mentor in my life so to have in my corner is just one of the many blessings from being on “The Voice.”
Q) What is one piece of advice that you took to heart while on the show?
A) I learned how to take control of my moment and to really hold nothing back!
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) Miami because it ’s home and to see all my friends and family in the crowd singing and jamming to my song means the world to me. And London will always have a special place in my heart for many reasons, but I felt something really beautiful from the audience when I performed in London that I haven’t gotten anywhere else yet.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Rihanna, Drake, and Sia
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Dua Lipa’s album has been on repeat since it came out. Her style, her voice, the production, everything is so flawless and well curated.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) It puts us closer to our fans, closer to those who really support us. I think it’s important to get to know my fans so I can become a better artist for them.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you for believing in the vision. Thank you for sticking by my side and holding my head up. Thanks for believing in the music and I promise to take this thing all the way to the moon with you guys right next to me!
