Peach Martine – True Story
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) My sound is theatrical rock and roll. My vocals are very heavily influenced by the best flamboyant rock stars like Freddie Mercury, Mick Jagger and David Bowie. I like to write alternative pop rock.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I love classic rock like Queen, Motley Crue, the Rolling Stones, Zeppelin, Rush and the Beatles. I also adore female singer songwriters like Lana Del Rey and Lorde.
Q) How has life in Miami helped shape you as a music artist?
A) You can’t walk down a busy road without hearing a reggaeton drum beat flowing down out of an apartment window or out of convertible speakers. Music follows you everywhere. Being around new music whenever I leave the house has definitely changed the way I love music. Every other city I visit seems quieter now. Music fills the air in Miami; it makes it impossible to feel lonely here. I love Miami endlessly. There’s so much culture and love and art here.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new video for “True Story.”
A) “True Story” really is a true story. Like, that video happened in real life. We shot it in LA and it was amazing to partner with Facebook for the release. I’m very proud of how it came out!
Q) The stripped-down version of “True Story” went viral on TikTok! What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I wrote the song and it exploded on TikTok, and even though the lyrics are a very literal, personal and specific story about my breakup and getting cheated on, people really connected with it. In a way, everyone who’s ever had a bad breakup can relate to it. The lyrics are just me emptying out all my thoughts onto paper and into the world.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) I wrote the treatment plan for the video myself because I had a specific vision in mind. I knew I wanted the video to depict exactly what was going on in the lyrics. The lyrics were the plot, they describe the true story and that’s what you see in the video.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) I usually write lyrics first! The message and meaning of the song are the best parts of listening to music in my opinion, so that’s what I focus on.
Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) An arm. I’m extremely involved with the production. I’d say I co-produce everything I make. Playing five instruments and knowing the basics of every instrument helps me know what I want each instrument to be playing. I can hear the song in my head before it’s produced, but I love to work with super creative producers to not only bring my vision to life but to add their own artistry and ideas into the song.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) Absolutely! My first full length album is coming out this year! It’s all written and recorded and we are beginning production and rollout soon! This next single, “Romeo and Juliet” out April 8th, will be on the album!
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I love playing in rock clubs. I’m originally from Cleveland, so growing up I got to play in some super cool venues. Rock clubs have such an incredible vibe. It’s cool to play places I like to hang out at, too.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I’d love to work with Brian May from Queen. He’s the greatest guitarist of all time and has written many of my favorite songs.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) “The Who Sell Out” by The Who. I’m seeing them on tour again soon and they’re one of my all-time favorites.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I have a new opportunity to go viral every single day with TikTok. It’s such an amazing privilege to be able to show my followers every song I write and post new songs every day and see which ones my fans like and don’t like as much. I also get to know my fans way more personally; I have zero unread DMs from fans on Instagram. I love talking to the amazing people who support me.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) A huge thank you. I passed one million followers on TikTok recently and it blew my mind. I have the most amazing listeners ever. I feel very close to so many of them. I read my comments and reply back to all the people I see commenting often and I get back to all their DMs. I feel like we’re all a big group of friends and I’m so excited to meet them on tour.
