Pinkfiz – The World of Pinkfiz
By: Alejandra Gil M.
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I would describe my sound as guitars on steroids with catchy vocals. Or moshpit music.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I’m influenced by a lot of different artists and bands I definitely take a lot of inspiration from bands like Bikini Kill and Sleater-Kinney. But I’m also a huge fan of metal bands such as Wargasm, Cassyette, Vukovi and Nova Twins. So, I feel like I have a mixture of quite a lot of different influences. I also love Billie Eilish, Rico Nasty, Pale Waves and GIRLI. I think I take elements from all those different types of music and mash it into my own thing.
Q) Your new single “On Your Knees” out now. Talk about the story behind it.
A) The story behind it is a story of realization. I realized that I was allowing myself to be unhappy and letting other people control who I was, and I sacrificed myself to make other people happy. When I came to terms with it all, because it had happened multiple times, I knew I couldn’t let that happen to myself again and I had to take the power back over myself and not be controlled by anyone else.
Q) “On Your Knees” offers listeners a truly remarkable realm of rockability, and lavish lyrical bliss. What do you hope people take away from it?
A) I really want people to own their power and have that ego trip when they listen to this song because we all need that song to boost energy and walk down the street listening to and imagining we’re the main character and I feel like that’s what I tried to achieve with this song. I want people to feel invincible and powerful.
Q) What was your song writing process like? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) I find that every song I write usually starts with guitar chords and me creating a vocal melody on top of that. Once I can hear in my head what I want it to sound like I go from there and add words to the melody and then adapt the chords into something more interesting and layer everything else on top of that in a demo to showcase what it is that’s going on in my head. Then, it’s just about fine tuning and getting feedback from other people.
Q) How much of a hand do you have when it comes to the production side of your music?
A) I produce everything at the minute. I do the mixing and the mastering in my home studio and I’m currently about to start my first year at university studying music production. I feel like the production part is so important and I love meddling with it and learning about it. I remember when I was fourteen years old, I had GarageBand and I used to experiment on it all the time and wonder how to make things sound the way I wanted to and figure out how to EQ for the first time. And ever since then I’ve just learnt more and more, and I can’t wait to really get into it more in the upcoming years.
Q) Your EP The World of Pinkfiz also includes songs “Pleaser,” “The Sequel,” “Did I Ask?” and my personal favorite “Not the Only One.” Has there been a single that stands out or that has been harder to record?
A) “Pleaser” was the first song I recorded with a real drum track, which was an amazing experience. All the other songs on the EP use artificial drum tracks and sounds. It was really cool recording it in a studio and watching how it was done. I did that song in college and used the facilities there and I think it’s one of the best songs on the EP. It was also difficult to record because of tempo changes in the song which made the drums even harder to nail, but I’m pretty happy with the results I got.
Q) With the EP reaching over 20,000 Spotify streams alone, and several broadcasting features on the likes of BBC Introducing Cambridgeshire, you are advocating your way into the alt-rock realm. What has it meant to you getting more attention and recognition for your music?
A) It’s been a bit surreal, to be honest. Sometimes I have these moments of realization where I’m like wow that’s crazy and that’s my music? So, it has been amazing and so crazy in the best way possible. But I’m always trying to outdo myself and hoping to take over the world one day.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) There’s a lot of amazing and cool artists I’d love to collaborate with. Most of them are way out of my reach right now but anything is possible, right? I’d really love to work with an artist called GIRLI because I love her songs and I feel like she’d really get my vibe and my message. Or Maggie Lindemann. And if we’re talking dream collaborations, it’d have to be the likes of Billie Eilish, Bring Me the Horizon and Hayley Williams.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) I’ve had Nova Twins’ new album Supernova on repeat for a while now. I love their sound they have such raw energy and are really inspirational. I don’t think there is any band like them at the minute and they’re taking over the alt-rock/metal scene. I really love “Puzzles” off their album. That has to be my favorite track. It’s so catchy and authentic.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) It’s an important way to connect to fans because it is so accessible, and it truly does connect people from all over the world. It’s also a really easy way for me to gage what people want to see from me and how I can give back to them for listening.
Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of you and your music?
A) Thank you. Any type of support is hugely appreciated more than anyone will know. And I love all of them.
