Sylvia (Rose Byrne) is recounting the previous episode’s events to Charlie (Luke Macfarlane), describing Jenna (Rachel Rosenbloom) as a “monster” for calling her “nothing.” While Charlie attempts to be supportive, he also suggests it might have been a misunderstanding. Their conversation is interrupted when Charlie receives a notification that Jeopardy has approved him to be a contestant on the show, fulfilling his life’s dream.
Sylvia informs her family that she and Will’s childhood friend “Wild Card” (Beck Bennett) is visiting town and warns that things may get chaotic. Her children Frances (Sophie Leonard), Simon (Max Matenko) and Maeve (Sophia Kopera) remain skeptical, pointing out that she’s painfully boring and even her attempts to describe potential excitement sound mundane. Despite Sylvia’s insistence that she was cool back in the day, her kids clearly doubt this claim.
During brunch with Wild Card, Sylvia vents her frustrations by calling Jenna a “bitch.” Wild Card jokingly threatens to tell Will about her comment and, despite Sylvia’s demands that he keep quiet, he continues to tease her about potentially revealing the information.
Later Sylvia discusses the situation with Katie (Carla Gallo), who suggests an unusual strategy. Katie recommends that Sylvia work the word “bitch” into conversation relentlessly, similar to how the Smurfs constantly say “smurf” to nullify the effect in case Wild Card tells Will about her comment.
Meanwhile, Will (Seth Rogen) has lunch with Wild Card and makes his own confession, admitting that he and Jenna aren’t having as much sex as he did with his ex-wife. In fact, they’re barely intimate at all. Like Sylvia before him, Will swears Wild Card to secrecy about this personal revelation.
The trio reunites for dinner where Wild Card provides them all with edibles. Sylvia becomes extremely high and paranoid, convinced that Wild Card and Will are discussing things behind her back. In her altered state she secretly records their conversation with her phone and then listens to the recording in the bathroom to decipher what’s happening. Through this eavesdropping Sylvia discovers that Will and Jenna aren’t having sex. When she brings up the topic, it leads to an awkward conversation where both men realize that Sylvia maintains a more active sex life with Charlie than they do with their respective partners.
Seeking to level out from their high and find more excitement, the three friends head to the aquarium. They soon realize that Wild Card hasn’t planned any activities and has become rather boring in his middle age. As Sylvia and Will begin teasing him about this development, Wild Card retaliates by blurting out that Sylvia called Jenna a bitch.
This revelation sparks a minor fight between Will and Sylvia, during which Sylvia admits that Jenna called her “nothing.” Will appears visibly surprised by this information but attempts to play it off, instead criticizing Sylvia for having a bad habit of meddling in his love life. Feeling hurt and frustrated, Sylvia decides to go home early.
Wild Card and Will finish their evening by watching a movie at the aquarium and sleeping off the effects of the edibles at Wild Card’s hotel. During the night, Will experiences a strange dream about women at the aquarium, accompanied by a nocturnal emission. Upon waking, he realizes something important and immediately goes to Sylvia’s house.
Sylvia apologizes for how they left things the previous night, but Will has bigger news to share. He tells her that he needs to break up with Jenna. He then asks if he can use her bathroom to change into new clothes he purchased on the way over. When Sylvia asks why he needs to change, Will tells her she doesn’t want to know.
