Q) How did the concept for The Last Bridesmaid come about and how much of your true duties and details did you include in the movie?

A) I was the maid of honor in my brother’s wedding and when I was on the plane heading to film a Christmas movie, I thought about how many times people had asked me, “So when are you getting married?” Or said, “It’s your turn next.” It made me laugh and I thought this is so relatable and such a romantic comedy. I was working with fantastic producers, Joel Rice and Scott Clayton, and had just worked with my dear friend Nina Weinman and we all got together, pitched the idea, started development and now we have a movie!

Q) After serving as a devoted bridesmaid to a myriad of your close friends and your family, what is at least one thing or lesson that you would pass on to others in the position?

A) Just roll with everything. All of it. Both of my brother’s had very different weddings. One brother and his wife had a fancy wedding with a huge party and a very long itinerary and my other brother and his wife rented cabins on a campground, got married and had a cookout.  Both were so unique and perfectly them, but I just tried to support whatever they wanted to do.

Q) Your character has to choose between two dashing bachelors and each one is more charming than the other. What is it about each one she is drawn to?

A) Fun decisions – right? One is very grounded and focused on career and definitely an incredibly smart, kind man. The other is artistic and passionate and encourages her to chase her dreams. Ultimately, her heart leads her to the one who sparks the chasing of the dreams.

Q) How did you decide on the ornate and intricate details and decorations the wedding was set around?

A) The locations department and art department knocked it out of the park. We were filming in such beautiful places! Our director, Marc Jean, is amazing and he found this very romantic Inn — The Sooke Harbour House for one of the weddings. Waking up there and filming was so magical.  It was like living in a dream. Right on the ocean. It sets the tone for such a hopeful and happy adventure.

Q) What was your favorite behind the scenes moment to film?

A) [laughs] Paul Campbell and I started a cover band cover band. We decided we would cover cover bands. And we began our journey with Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is…” We had a lot of fun making music videos for our band.

Q) Hallmark films always balance so beautifully heart and humor. How does this movie stay true to form?

A) It’s very much a romantic comedy. And I love romantic comedies. It’s all about connection and communication. Two people trying to figure each other out and figure out what they want out of life. Nina Weinman (our writer) is so smart and hilarious in real life and brings that to her work and Paul Campbell is so funny.  He’s truly just hilarious starting at 6am in the makeup trailer, so I spent most of the day laughing. And there’s a lot of heart. Maybe laughter opens your heart?

Q) You have produced and starred in a plethora of projects over the years. Romance and relationships center so much around various forms of love in our lives. What have you taken away from these celebrated events we share that makes you eager to walk down the aisle?

A) This movie was such a special experience. I think love takes so many different forms. True love. We filmed this one wedding scene late at night and it was my birthday. And after I gave a speech for the film, the crew brought out a birthday cake and sang to me. It was one of the most magical nights of my life. Surrounded by people that I adore and just feeling so thankful. Thankful for everything that led to this moment. So, I think love is always around us. We just have to keep our eyes looking towards it.

Q) Quite often when it comes to love we are conflicted because our head and our hearts tend to steer us in different directions. What does your character Becca use more of to lead with and why?

A) So true. Oh, so very true. I don’t know if I have the answer to that or if Becca knows either. But I think she leads with her head and as she spends more time with Kyle, her heart opens up. So, it’s easier to trust it. And her work life starts to change. When he opens her heart to see the possibilities, everything shifts. And they treat each other with respect. That’s, to me, the most important thing.

Q) Why is it important now more than ever for female filmmakers to stop waiting for a chance and create their own while pushing themselves to wear as many hats as possible?

A) We live in such an amazing time and I am so thankful to be teaming up with so many brilliant women to develop projects right now. It’s an incredible feeling to step onto the set when you have been dreaming up an idea for years. My sister-in-law is an astrophysicist so I’m surrounded by smart, dynamic women and I want to tell their stories. The world is changing so much right now and I am very thankful to be part of that movement.

Q) What do you hope that fans take away from watching the film The Last Bridesmaid

A) There is a line in the film that really hit me hard, “You can’t shut down just because of one bad experience.” A lot of the movie is about second chances. Holding onto hope even after you have been let down and believing that there are good people in the world. The film helped open my heart back up to that, so I hope it reaches anyone watching as well.

Q) Are there any other upcoming projects you are working on in front of or behind the camera?

A) I’m developing a few movies right now that I’m very excited about. And I’m going to be shadowing a director. Lots of fun adventures around the corner.
