Rainchild – Watershed

By  |

By: Jamie Steinberg

Q) How would you describe your sound?

Jason: “A combination of Fergie and Jesus,” in the words of John C. Reilly in Step Brothers. Seriously though, we consider ourselves a no nonsense rock band with strong vocals, a 90’s rock sound and a powerful rhythm section.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

Jason: We all have an eclectic mix of influences but we all agree upon Alice in Chains, Sound Garden and Seether as bands we are heavily influenced by. We also are influenced by a lot of classic rock as well such as The Doors and Led Zeppelin to name a few.

Q) “Watershed” is your new release. Where did the concept for the song come from?

Dustin: The concept came from pent up aggravation.  People always love the flowers on the other side of the fence.  We wish for changes in others, but are often bitten by what we wish for.

Q) How does the video pair with the message of the song?

Dustin: “Watershed” is the first of three videos that work together to tell a story.  Watershed simply sets the mood. I can’t wait to give the rest to everyone!

Q) Where do you get the inspiration for your lyrics?

Dustin: My lyrics come from personal experience.  It’s my way of getting out what’s inside.  If I couldn’t push it out on stage I’d go nuts.

Q) When creating a song, do you need to have the music before the lyrics? What is your songwriting process like?

Dustin: It’s different for each song. Each song is different.

Jason: Early on, I would usually show up to practice with some songs or ideas I had been working on and Dustin would pull out his lyric book and start trying to put a few different melodies to it. We’ve evolved from that more now and try to write collectively as a whole band and it has added a new dimension to our songs.

Q) What do you think it is about “Watershed” that resonates with fans?

Dustin: Great music and lyrics people can interpret with their own circumstances.  I think it’s important to write in a way that people can relate, and put themselves into the world we have painted.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

Dustin: We are involved from the first strum to the ear holes.  We are lucky enough to have a great producer and can all really bounce ideas off of each other.

Q) What are your favorite songs to perform?

Dustin: Probably “Sweet Chin Music,” “Watershed” and “Again.”

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

Jason: Social Media has been a godsend to independent artists. Websites for bands are almost obsolete because of social media. It is a great tool to reach a world audience and keep people up to date on shows, music releases, etc. It also gives us the opportunity to engage and get on a more personal level with our fans, which is the best part about it.

Q) Is there anything you want to be sure fans know about your music?

Dustin: I want to let everybody know that we greatly appreciate everyone’s support.  I hope you get as much from our music as we did writing it.  It’s an emotional experience and I hope it’s just as emotional for everyone.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?

Jason: We would like to say thank you for all of the support. We could not do this without you and it means more to us than you might think. We will continue to try and make music to share with our audience and hope they keep digging what we’re throwing at them.
