Reign – Strange Bedfellows
By: Stacy Miller
Reign continued its “Bachelorette” story with Mary who has more than one suitor. But instead of getting a rose, she would be winning a kingdom. That is, if she could survive the murder plot and other church treachery.
Mary (Adelaide Kane) and Dudley are participating in an archery match. Mary is quite good. Forget Dudley, there’s a good looking arrow carrying hottie two nights away! Dudley (Charlie Carrick) talks about their upcoming union as a congenital marriage. What a sweet talker! Mary run into his arms right now. Then, Dudley gives her a ring. I asked this question while live tweeting on Twitter, but never got an answer: Since Elizabeth arranged the match, did she buy the ring, too? Inquiring recappers want to know! Anyway, Mary celebrates her engagement to Dudley in Gideon’s bed while they continue to discuss the Vatican and their views on a ruler. But Mary and Gideon (Ben Geurens) realize that the Vatican probably prefers a Catholic king to a queen. They may be considering Joseph Tudor, one of those twice removed cousins or something. Interesting Joseph is in France trying to keep his distance from Elizabeth in England.
Lord Dudley corners Gideon and warns him to stay away from Mary. At little late for that, but what Dudley doesn’t know won’t cause a royal scandal.
Apparently, Archbishop Ridolfi (Juan Chioran) has been meeting secretly with Joseph Tudor (Adam Langton). The Vatican must make sure that their king choice is safe and sound. But Mary and Gideon have other ideas, namely grabbing Joseph Tudor and putting him out of the Vatican. Later, Gideon is able to kidnap Joseph Tudor. Unfortunately, because he was spotted by a servant boy, Gideon is thrown into the dungeon for the kidnapping. However, he is able to hide the Vatican’s letter outlining their Tudor plans.
Although no longer part of Court intrigue, Greer’s life is far from calm. Pregnant and having agreed to allow her baby to be raised by her sister and brother-in-law, the trio are now being blackmailed about it. Greer (Celina Sindon) asks Leith for help because it’s customary to turn to your ex-lover. She asks Leith (Jonathan Keltz) to follow her brother-in-law when he goes to make the payoff to discover the identity of the blackmailer. This will interfere with the trip to Paris that Claude (Rose Williams) has planned for she and Leith. But hey, no big. Claude is excited when Leith tells her about Greer having “a pirate’s baby” and wants to tag along with Leith. At a pub where the blackmail payoff is taking place, Claude pretends to be a tavern wench and discovers that the blackmail plot was a hoax. Greer’s brother-in-law Thomas is planning to use the money to buy a chateau in Switzerland.
In a surprising turn of events, it’s Dudley who ends up helping Gideon. Meanwhile, Catherine (Megan Follows) and Bash (Torrance Coombs) are trying to get to the bottom of the whole Red Knights mystery.
Later, Catherine uses Christophe (Nathaniel Middleton) to torture a suspect for information. Of course, Christophe has no problem inflicting pain because he’s a serial killer…
