Interviews
Reiley McClendon – Time Trap
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects you have been working on?
A) Currently doing a guest star on “NCIS: LA” and did a short film called Softball that was just submitted to Sundance. I have a movie called Christmas in July directed by Myles Matsuno that is in post-production now.
Q) Please tell us the premise for the upcoming film Time Trap.
A) A group of students enter in to a cave system in an effort to find their professor who went missing in that same cave system only days before. However, once they enter the cave things are not what they expected.
Q) How was your character Taylor originally described to you?
A) I honestly can’t remember.
Q) Did you have to do any repelling or spelunking training before filming?
A) Absolutely. We had a week in Austin with the whole team (actors & directors) and during this time we did several different days of repelling training.
Q) Were you familiar with any of your costars prior to working with them on the movie?
A) I was unfamiliar with them.
Q) Talk about filming in the cave. It must have been physically and mentally challenging.
A) Filming in caves is very interesting. You are correct that it can be very physically challenging. Some of the parts of the caves are very tight with low ceilings so you are constantly getting snagged on things, bumping your head, never going anywhere without a flashlight. Some of the less obvious things are the ones that are the most difficult. In the cave system in Austin it was very humid despite the air outside of the cave being quite dry. The humidity made it very warm in the cave. Needless to say, we did not need to have the makeup department add any sweat. 😊
Q) What piece of advice did directors Ben Foster and Mark Dennis offer that you took to heart while filming?
A) Ben and Mark were very collaborative, and they made me feel like I had a real voice in the final product.
Q) What were some of your most memorable moments from filming Time Trap?
A) We had the opportunity to film in the “most decorated” cave in the world out in western Texas. The beauty and overwhelming magnitude of some of the formations was breathtaking.
Q) What do you think it is about the movie that will make it a fast fan favorite?
A) I love that this film plays with the age old idea of the fountain of youth. That is what I think will intrigue people who watch the movie. I would love if after watching the movie people had conversations centered around the idea of what they would do if they could live forever but had to stay within the cave?
Q) You are a part of social media. Are you looking forward to the fans reaction to the movie?
A) Most definitely, I look forward to engaging them on my Facebook page.
Q) We loved seeing you on “The Fosters.” What did you personally take away from your experience on the show?
A) I learned several lessons from my time on “The Fosters.” I think the most valuable take away was learning what it means to be on a network show like that so regularly…learning what the schedule is, learning how the show runners handle both their duties of writing and directing, etc. Also, being responsible for a character over that many episodes becomes interesting because the character grows and changes over time and you must evolve with it.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) To all of those that have stuck with me over the years I can’t thank you enough. You and I both know that it has been quite a journey over the years and we are still on it. I hope to be able to share some great moments with you soon.
