Interviews
Rome & Duddy – Lahaina
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I would say like if Van Morrison and Jimmy Buffet started a band and lived in Jamaica.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Everything from Sublime to Van Morrison, The Dead and Beastie Boys!
Q) What made you decide to cover the song “Lahaina?”
A) We fell in love with the song when we heard it for the first time. It really showcased a sound we were trying to achieve.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I think people really connect with the light heartedness and the smooth blend of Americana / Reggae.
Q) Talk about connecting with song co-originator Jim Messina.
A) Jim is a great soul. He’s a very intelligent and gifted musician who invited us into his world and helped produce this song. He worked with us tirelessly on the vocal and music arrangements.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) I think it puts out a kind of “Do unto others” type of vibe, which we are all about. Spread that joy.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) We do the music and lyrics at the same time usually. Typically, with a guitar and some drinks.
Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I (Rome) handle a lot of the production as of now, but hopefully as this project continues to flourish, we can work with some really brilliant producers for the album!
Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?
A) Full Album
Q) With concerts currently on hold, what do you miss most about being on stage?
A) Connecting with our listeners and meeting them at meet and greets. We got a lot of new music for them too, so we’ve been itching to show it to everyone.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) It’s a goal of ours to have Jimmy Buffet featured on one of our songs. We have it all ready for him, too!
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Well, at the moment, connecting with them via social media is the closest way we can! We will take what we can get. [laughs]
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) A HUGE thank you for all the support over the years. Both of our bands have traveled all over the world and played thousands of concerts thanks to you all! We truly do love our job!
