RYDYR – Dream Alone
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) My sound is always growing and changing. This current body of work I like to describe as a “beautiful darkness”
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I have so many! A few musical influences would be The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, ACDC, Drake, Jon Bellion and more!
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Dream Alone.”
A) “Dream Alone” is a special song that was me kinda talking myself through a hard time of life. It kind of embodies the fear and freedom of feeling lost.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) Well, I think first of all the music is just beautiful. Zakk Carvini, my producer, and writing partner won the did a fantastic job with the production. So, I feel like that alone grabs people. Then, the lyrics are relatable to most everyone I would assume. I feel like everyone has gone through a feeling of loss or longing.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) The video is a little movie showing a glimpse of the intention of the song. It’s a personal journey to save one’s self.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) Having music can for sure help. It creates an energy and melodies and lyrics start to rush to me. However, it’s not necessary. A lot of my favorite lyrics and songs have come to me just out of nowhere in my head. It’s just my job to write them down or voice record the so they aren’t lost.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I like to be involved in every aspect of my creative process. I give input, guidance and notes on everything.
Q) With the current state of things, will your upcoming EP drop sooner rather than later?
A) Yes. Right now, we are gearing up for a second single and an EP to follow that.
Q) What are some themes you will be exploring on this EP?
A) Each song is coming from a personal place kind of talking about little aspects of my life or thoughts. All fueled by this alt pop rock sound.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I love performing in NYC and Texas. Texas is my homeland so it just always refreshing to go there. And there’s a certain magic to NYC that just makes it special each time.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Alessia Cara, Matt Maeson and Jon Bellion are some dream collars at the moment.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Recent albums I’m listening to are The Weeknd’s latest. Also, J Cole’s Dreamville And probably my most listened to are Mac Miller’s albums. I’m always jamming those. Just such amazing artistry. I miss him.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I think it’s important to connect to your fans because you get to create a world and community with them. However, I can see how social media can be a negative sometimes just for overall mental health. I’ve struggled with comparison and just being sucked into the black hole of it too. My next single is actually about that a little bit.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Just thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! Means the world to me. Hope to meet you all someday soon, but for now BE SAFE! [smiles]
