Q) How do you describe your sound and what influences you?
A) I’d describe it as roll-the-windows-down-and-blast-that-electro-pop. I think the new music I’ve been working on is even more roll-the-windows-down-and-blast-ish than the EP. Let me know if you decide to try it.
I am an open person and keep an open mind to being influenced by whatever is around me. I can be influenced by what I’m listening to, what I’m reading or watching or something as simple as how I’m feeling. What I make and what I listen to is always heavily influenced by what I’m feeling.
Q) Do the lyrics come before the melody? How do you construct a song?
A) Typically, I’ll have at least a few lines I’m interested in working off of. It can be something I wrote down a year ago or in the car on the way to the studio. Every song is constructed differently than the one before and I think doing that keeps my songwriting fresh every time.
Q) How much hand in the production of your music do you have?
A) I think the only possible way I would have more of a hand in the production than I already do is if I were the one producing it. I’m there while a good portion of it is done and I will always speak up about what I like and what I want changed and how I want to change it. My producer and I are almost always on the same creative wave length.
Q) What do you think it is about your music that will resonate with listeners?
A) I think my unfaltering honesty will definitely resonate. Nothing like being candid to a catchy tune, right?
Q) What do you think the music industry is lacking? What are some of the changes and movements that you’d like to be a part of?
A) Women! When I get in deeper maybe I’ll have a new answer, but right now my only answer is that it lacks women. It lacks women on the business side as well as the creative side. I want women in A&R and in management and as CEO and songwriting and performing.
Q) What can audiences expect from a live performance?
A) Great vocals and a lot a lot of energy!
Q) Can you talk about the evolution of your music and artistry, what do you see for yourself in the future? What are the messages you want to send?
A) My music and artistry have grown and changed as I’ve grown and changed. I don’t spend a lot of time trying to figure out what other people want to hear. I write what I need to get out of my system, whatever it may be. I write that way because I know whatever I’m feeling someone else may have felt or will feel at some point in time; I want them to know they’re not alone in that.
Q) Is there anything you can tease or share about the upcoming music you will be releasing?
A) There’s uplifting, inspirational and then there’s really painful and emotional — all executed in a catchy pop fashion.
Q) What has the instant feedback from Twitter been like for you?
A) Feedback has been positive! Twitter is generally fickle. I should probably use it more to talk about myself and my music, but it’s mostly full of activism and fan girling. At the end of the day, I’m still just a 23 year old.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) I would like to say thank you for your support! I so look forward to what’s to come.
