Interviews
Sarati – River
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects you are working on?
A) I have been filming a lot of commercials in the last month as well as shooting with a couple of fitness brands. I am working on an upcoming film as well. Besides that, I am starting to vlog about my daily life so that people can get a behind the scenes look of what it is like as an upcoming working actor.
Q) Please tell us how you became a part of the Eminem/Ed Sheeran video “River.”
A) I went to an audition that my agency sent me on. I had no idea what to expect, but I felt really good after I left. I gave it my all and then two days later I got the part.
Q) What was your audition like for the video?
A) It was very similar to the acting I did in the video. They wanted to see how I fought with someone. They wanted to see how angry I could get. They wanted to see the passion and fire inside of me. So, that’s exactly what I did in the audition.
Q) What was the vibe like on set?
A) It was very laid back. Everyone was so kind and professional.
Q) Talk about working with Eminem and Ed Sheeran.
A) So, I only worked with Eminem because they shot Ed’s part in London. It was incredible though. Eminem is just as amazing as you’d think! [smiles]
Q) What were some of your most memorable moments from filming “River?”
A) The adrenaline that I got from some of the scenes was indescribable. I had never experienced anything like that before. When you have so many people looking at you and you are acting opposite of the best rapper in the world…a lot is riding on you to carry out the idea that they have in their minds. Most people would not be able to handle that pressure. I found it invigorating though and it pushed me to work even harder.
Q) What did you take away, personally, from working on the video?
A) When you are an actress who has been in LA for about six years, you get down on yourself at times and wonder if this is the right career path for you. From shooting “River,” I know that this is a hundred percent the right path for me. I finally got to show people my acting chops instead of being a “hot girl” in a show that says a couple of lines. It was very fulfilling, and I am so excited for what’s coming next.
Q) You have appeared on a number of series from “Stitchers” to “Glee.” What advice do you have for up and coming actors/actresses?
A) Never give up. The amount of setbacks that I have on a daily basis…I cannot even get into. Life is hard and this industry is harder. You are turned down constantly, screwed over by your “friends” and nobody understands you. That cannot stop you though from getting what you want. You have to be okay with being different. You have to have blinders on that make you immune to the negativity around you. NEVER give up.
Q) Who are some actors and actresses you hope to work with some day?
A) I would love to work with Tom Hanks or Steve Carell. They are so truthful in their storytelling and I strive to be like that as well. I never want someone to think I am acting and I have never thought that about either of them.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you!!! This is just the beginning and it’s going to be a long journey! I can’t wait for you all to see what’s next.
