Interviews
Savannah Paige Rae – The Firefly Girls
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) What can you tell us about the premise of The Firefly Girls and about your character Gracie?
A) Grace is a complicated girl with a lot of emotion. Gracie’s life has changed and is having a hard time dealing with it.
Q) What about the role or script made you want to be a part of this project?
A) When I read the original script there was a line in there (that was cut from the final script) that made me cry. The line was “She didn’t even get to finish that drawing” and it made me feel close to Grace and want to play her.
Q) Is there anything that you added to the role that was not originally scripted?
A) Not that I can think of. Maybe some extra tears!
Q) What kind of advice and guidance did director Katie Micay give you? What was it like working with her?
A) There was a moment during filming where I had to cry and Katie was very supportive and directed everyone to be quieter. Shed gave me a moment to get emotional, which made me feel comfortable. I loved working with her.
Q) Is there any aspect of your character Gracie that you connected or identified with?
A) I like that Gracie was independent and needed to find answers. Gracie is also a thinker which I relate to.
Q) What was your favorite moment to film and why?
A) The final scene when we got to eat the cookies!
Q) Are there any moments that you are nervous or excited for fans to see?
A) There is a surprise that you don’t expect so I hope people like that.
Q) What do you think it is about the film that will draw viewers in and engage them?
A) The story! It was very well written by Katie and touches on emotions in a way that I think people will respond to.
Q) You’re a part of social media, do you enjoy that instant fan feedback and interaction? Why is it important for you to engage fans this way?
A) Honestly I am not that great at the social media thing! It’s mostly because I’m way to busy playing American Girls so I forget to go on it sometimes. But when I do get on social media I love it when people try to reach out and I always want to respond because I am so thankful to have those interactions.
Q) What have you taken away from your experiences being a part of The Firefly Girls?
A) I think I made some friends, for sure! My sister (Emily Evan Rae) and I have a love for Disney and so does Katie, Kyle [Bown] and Kim [Puleo]. So, we all go to Disney together sometimes and they all came over for dinner at my house, too!
Q) Who do you keep in touch with from your former “Parenthood” cast?
A) All of the “Parenthood” kids and some of the adult cast who have kids come with their kids over to my house sometimes to jump on the trampoline or have dance parties. I have talked to almost everyone in the cast and will always continue to think of them as my forever family. I miss them every day!
Q) What do you hope fans hold on to or take away from “Parenthood’s” legacy?
A) It’s a story about family who made mistakes but at the end of the day we are all there for each other to support one another (or yell over each other) because we are Bravermans! Oh, and that I am not a brat like Sydney!
