SEDONA – Getting Into Heaven

By: Alejandra Gil M.

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Pageant rock

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Til Tuesday, Missing Persons, Bonnie Raitt, Gwen Stefani, Stevie Nicks

Q) Talk about the idea behind your new single “She’s So Pretty” ft. Claud.

A) It’s an old song that we started in New York and finished in California. Liz Phair and The Swirlies inspired. It’s about a few different people all rolled up into one song. It’s about knowing when to call it quits, and saying goodbye to old habits that no longer serve you.

Q What’s the song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) My songwriting process varies depending on the day. Sometimes I start with just a vocal melody, a cappella, maybe some lyrics. Other times at the piano, with a friend, at the beach with a guitar. If there were a through-line, I’d say lyrics and melody really get me going.

Q) The music video was edited by you and has animated lyrics, title and color by Corrinne James. What made this the perfect fit for the message of the song?

A) The whole video was meant to feel nostalgic, feel raw, feel playful. Corrinne dreamed up the lyric animation to match those three things perfectly. I love all of her work so it was an easy ‘yes’ to whatever she dreamed up!

Q) Your debut record Getting Into Heaven came out May 23. What are some themes you explore?

A) The record dives into my time here on Earth as a woman who knows how to get herself into some quality trouble. It’s a confessional, very much a diary surrounding matters of the heart.

Q) Is there a song from the bunch that has challenged you the most emotionally for this new record?

A) “Knock On Wood” is the hardest emotionally for me to sing for sure – touchy subject for sure!

Q) Which song(s) on the album hold a special place in your heart and why?

A) I’ve held all of these songs near to my heart for quite some time now. I’d say the one that feels closest to me today is “The Culprit.” That one just feels like home. The album is somewhat of a mixtape of my songs, some are more pop-rock, some are more Americana. I think I’m headed down an old country road for LP 2…and this one definitely showed me which way to walk.

Q) What do you hope people take away from this new album – either as an emotion or message?

A) I hope listening brings self-reflection, healing, a warm-wooded escape, even if just for a moment!

Q) You also announced new tour dates. Where are your favorite places to perform live?

A) Everywhere!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Hmm…Martin Newell or 2hollis

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why?

A) Lindsey Buckingham because I’m addicted

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of your music?

A) Thanks for tuning in. Love ya
