Listening to Simon Lewis’ (Alberto Rosende) music, Heidi McKenzie (Tessa Mossey) applies her makeup for a special occasion as a bloody body dangles behind her. Kyle (Chai Hansen) tells Simon that his mark shouldn’t hurt anyone if he evades the attack and tries lunging at him a couple of times. Simon tries to talk to him, and mentions that they should have lunch with his girlfriend, Maia Roberts (Alisha Wainwright). Kyle tries to punch Simon, but the mark throws him back. Simon helps him up, and Kyle rejects the lunch meeting.

Simon returns to the apartment where Heidi is waiting for him. He doesn’t recognize her, but he remembers feeding on her when she flashes her wrist. Heidi tells him that he is her sire, as she died with his blood on her lips. Simon asks how she was brought back, and she tells him that Raphael dug her up. She tells him that they’re bonded forever, but he tells her that he is not capable of being a sire. He suggests talking to Raphael, but Heidi gets upset at him for turning his back on her, telling him they belong together.

Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.) compliments Alec Lightwood’s (Matthew Daddario) French toast, and Alec comments that he should save it for his box. Magnus suggests they talk about it, but Alec admits that he didn’t think about the future. Alec tells him he can’t stomach the idea of him becoming a burden to him. Magnus attempts to assure him that he will never be a burden, but Alec isn’t convinced. Alec takes offense when Magnus suggests that he’s having a difficult time with this because he’s never been in a previous relationship, and Magnus accuses him of putting words in his mouth. Magnus tells him to stop acting like a child, and Alec storms out.

Alec tells Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia) about the argument, and asks for advice. She tells him that the appeal of dating downworlders for her is that it never gets serious, but tells him that if anyone could make it work, it’s him and Magnus. They see Maryse Lightwood (Nicola Correia-Damude) asking to be let into the Institute Alec comes over and tells the Guard (Neion George) that Maryse is allowed inside as long as he’s in charge.

Maryse apologizes for not calling ahead, and Alec asks about the de-runing. She tells them that she’s adjusting fine, and Alec offers her a place to stay at the Institute. Maryse turns down the offer, and tells them that she wants to spend time with her children. Clary Fairchild (Katherine McNamara) calls Luke Garroway (Isaiah Mustafa) and tells him that she can’t find any information on the demon that attacked her. She tells him that she needs to warn everyone, but Luke warns her that she will face consequences for using the wish.

Lilith (Anna Hopkins) tells a possessed Jace Herondale (Dominic Sherwood) that she needs him to get her final disciple to resurrect Jonathan. Jace swears loyalty, and Lilith tells him that she knows the real Jace is inside and suffering. She tells him that he will return to find his friends dead and that she will smile when he begs for death. Lilith orders him to kiss her, and possesses him to do it. Simon talks to Maia about his encounter with Heidi, and questions if there’s a downworld restraining order. Maia points out that it seems like Heidi doesn’t have a support system since she turned, and Simon decides to text Raphael for some sire tips.

Isabelle gets a text from Charlie Cooper (Brooks Darnell) and Maryse wants to know about her new boyfriend. Isabelle wants to talk about her excommunication instead, but Maryse insists she’s fine. When Isabelle sees right through her, and Maryse admits that she feels lost. Isabelle assures her that she’s not alone, and suggests that they go out with Alec for a family dinner. Maryse agrees, on the condition that she brings Charlie. Isabelle argues that it’s only been one date, but Maryse insists that anyone who can make her smile like that is special.

Luke and Ollie (Alexandra Ordolis) discuss the Owl’s victims, and Ollie takes a call from Sam. After Sam hangs up, Ollie tells Luke that Sam is not happy and Luke tells her to make sure that Sam knows that she is the most important thing in her life. Jace scopes out the next target on the street, but is interrupted by Alec. He lies that he’s back from his treatment, and that he was headed to the Institute to tell everyone. Alec hugs him and welcomes him back. Jace tells everyone that he’s feeling better, and Clary embraces him. Clary tries to tell him what happened, but he tells her they can talk later. She asks if he’s sure he’s okay, and Jace insists he is.

Simon goes to the address Raphael texts him, and goes to a darkened basement where his music is playing. Heidi apologizes for the way she acted, and tells Simon she catfished him when he asks where Raphael is. Heidi details her torture at Raphael’s hands, and tells him that she remembers how gentle he was to her when he fed on her. Simon apologizes, and Heidi tells him that she loves being a vampire. He promises to be there if she needs him and she attempts to kiss him. Simon pulls away, and mentions that he has a girlfriend. She asks for her name, but he doesn’t give it.

Clary shows Magnus the drawing of the demon that attacked her, but he doesn’t recognize it. She questions why it didn’t kill her, and Magnus suggests that it left traces of its energy. He tries to find it, and discovers that the signature matches the demon that corrupted the laylines. He sends a message for help, and Clary looks upset as she mentions Jace. Magnus asks what’s wrong, and she explains how strange Jace was earlier. He advises her to be patient, and receives a message back asking to meet.

Simon tells Maia that Kyle wants them to lay low, but Maia reminds him that she has work and insists that she doesn’t need to go into hiding. Simon is still concerned, and Maia replies that Heidi will be sorry if she tries to come after her. At the Hunter’s Moon, Maryse tells Jace that she’s proud that he went to get treatment and questions if they’re embarrassed to be seen with her, but Alec and Isabelle assure her that they’re not.

Maryse asks Alec where Magnus is, and he replies that he left him a message. She asks Isabelle where her boyfriend is, and Alec and Jace are surprised she didn’t tell them. Isabelle insists that they’ve only been on one date, and answers that he is a mundane. Alec and Jace are surprised, but Maryse argues that she’s practically a mundane at this point. Isabelle warns them to behave as Charlie steps into the bar. Maryse calls him handsome, and Jace sees evidence that he is a good candidate for the final disciple.

Charlie talks about his work, and tells them that he knows about the family business. Alec questions what she told him, and laughs when Charlie asks if the jewelry business is a secret. Maryse helps sell the lie by saying they prefer to be seen as artists. Alec gets a text from Magnus telling him that he can’t make it, and he goes to the bar for a drink. Underhill (Steve Byers) asks him if he’s had a rough day at the office, and assures him that he deserves an occasional drink. Underhill asks where Magnus is, and Alec replies that he’s busy.

Maia tells Simon to relax, but Simon refuses to leave her side. She tells him to at least blink, and Luke approaches Maryse at the table. Isabelle and Jace leave and Luke sits across from her, apologizing for what happened. Maryse comments that it’s poetic justice for how she treated him after he was excommunicated. Luke tells her he’s not there to rub it in, as he knows how hard it is. He offers his help in adjusting, and Maryse expresses her appreciation before admitting that she has a chance to be a better person. Luke admits that she hasn’t seen her let her hair down since a ball and that she looks just as pretty now than she did then.

Clary asks Magnus if he’s okay as they wait for Brother Zachariah. She tells him that she can tell something’s wrong, and Magnus tells her he had a fight with Alec. Clary apologizes, and insists that there’s nothing he and Alec can’t work out. Brother Zachariah appears, and Magnus introduces Clary. He gives Magnus some texts to help identify the demon, and Magnus assures him that nobody will know about his help. Brother Zachariah mentions that any friend of Will Herondale is a friend of his, and Magnus explains that they were close to Jace’s ancestor. Clary asks Brother Zachariah about Jace’s treatment, but he informs her that Jace never went.

Isabelle visits Simon at the bar, and they talk about Maryse. She admits that she wishes she could do more for her, and he tells her that he’s learned that sometimes a parent just needs to know you’re there for them. Isabelle kisses him on the cheek, and Heidi mistakes her for Simon’s girlfriend watching outside the bar. Underhill asks a drunk Alec if he wants to play pool with him, but Alec refuses. They banter, and Underhill offers to sneak him out of the bar to avoid scrutiny from his family.

Heidi confronts Isabelle in a back room, telling her that she doesn’t deserve him. Isabelle questions what he’s talking about, and Heidi attacks her. They fight each other, and Simon hears the struggle from the bar. He runs in front of Heidi, and stops Isabelle from killing her. Simon explains the situation, and Isabelle explains that she’s the one that told Raphael to leave. She warns him that Heidi attacked a mundane and tried to kill her, but Simon argues that Heidi doesn’t deserve death or prolonged imprisonment. Simon promises to make sure she never hurts anyone again, and Isabelle tells him to get Heidi out of there.

Jace approaches Charlie and asks if he wants to step outside. However, Charlie notices blood on Isabelle’s arm as she returns to the bar and doesn’t buy her excuse. He wants to know what’s really going on, but Isabelle insists that everything’s fine before suggesting they get dessert. As they wait for a cab, Alec reminisces about his first date with Magnus and reveals that they fought over their differences. Underhill comments that Magnus doesn’t understand shadowhunters and advises him not to be hard on himself. Alec gets into a cab and drives off.

Jace sees Ollie enter the bar and sees that she is a candidate for the final disciple as she talks to Luke about a potential lead. Luke promises to look into it and Jace follows her as she leaves. Heidi is excited that Simon chose her, and tells him that they’ll start a clan of their own when he’s ready. Simon apologizes and turns her over to Kyle and the Praetor for rehabilitation. Heidi is furious, but Kyle tranquilizes and handcuffs her before she is taken away. Kyle assures him he did the right thing, but Simon isn’t convinced.

Magnus portals him and Clary to an alleyway, and Clary questions where Jace has been. Magnus confirms that Jace has been cold towards her and realizes that the woman who came to see him was the demon that attacked Clary. Magnus explains the conditions of the potion he brewed, and Clary questions why the woman would give it to Jace. Clary calls Luke and asks if Jace was at the Hunter’s Moon. The Owl attacks Ollie as she drives home, and she is unable to escape him. Clary and Magnus arrive as the Owl starts possessing Ollie, and try to attack him. The Owl dodges Clary’s blades and throws Magnus backwards. Luke shoots him, unmasking him as Jace. The Owl climbs up the building and a possessed Ollie runs away.
