Morgan Young (Genevieve Kang) walks down the street when she spots the Owl demon staring at her. She walks away as he approaches, but screams when he appears in front of her. Morgan attempts to fight him, but ends up on the ground. She grabs pepper spray and sprays him in the face before he can possess her. Morgan gives details of the attack to the police as the Owl watches from the rooftop.

Jace Herondale (Dominic Sherwood) struggles to stay awake as he replays the footage of the first demon possession. Jonathan Morgenstern (Will Tudor) appears to him and attacks him, telling him that he’s the one that Jace is looking for. Jace attempts to attack Jonathan, but he disappears in a puff of smoke. Clary Fairchild (Katherine McNamara) is concerned for him as Jace activates his stamina rune to stay awake. Jace angrily tells Clary that he’ll sleep when he finds the Owl, but Clary urges him to take care of himself. He presents his theory that Jonathan is behind the Owl’s mask.

Luke Garroway (Isaiah Mustafa) informs Simon Lewis (Alberto Rosende) that the wolf thrown back by the mark in Simon’s forehead has a broken hip and isn’t healing normally. He urges Simon to lay low until he can smooth things over and Maia Roberts (Alisha Wainwright) draws Simon a picture of the mark. Simon recognizes it as the one branded into his forehead by the Seelie Queen, and wants to talk to her about it. Maia advises against it, suggesting that it’s what she wants him to do. Simon declares that he can’t hide, and Luke argues to Russell (Noah Danby) that he and the other wolves were out of line for attacking Simon. However, Russell calls Simon a filthy vampire and argues that Luke should be prioritizing the pack over him.

Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.) informs Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario) that the lay lines are free of corruption, but notices that Alec is not enthused. He and Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia) explain that they just received a message that Maryse Lightwood (Nicola Correia-Damude) is coming for an impromptu family dinner. They theorize that it has something to do with their parents’ divorce, and believe that she will now try to meddle in their lives to cope. Magnus asks where they will be hosting the dinner, and offers his loft. Isabelle suggests that he join them for dinner, arguing that Magnus’ charming nature will prevent Maryse from interrogating them. Magnus agrees, saying that what’s important to Alec is important to him.

Raphael Santiago (David Castro) takes Rosa (Rosalba Martinni) for a walk, and she is thrilled to spend time with him despite not knowing who he is. She comments that he reminds her of his older brother, but can’t remember his name. Raphael reminds her that his name was Raphael and he tells her stories from when they were younger. Rosa remembers that he ran away without saying goodbye, but Raphael reminds her that he hugged her one last time before he left and told her to look at the stars when she missed him.

Raphael gets a call from a vampire (Josh Horvath), who tells him that Heidi McKenzie (Tessa Mossey) is out of control. He finds her sitting in a pool of blood and she complains about how bored she is. Raphael reminds her that she’s still adjusting, but she insists that she’s adjusted and wants to meet her sire. He tells her it’s not time yet, but she insists she’s ready. Raphael tells her she can go, but grabs her and tranquilizes her when she turns her back.

Clary, Simon, and Maia research Simon’s mark, but can’t find anything. Clary suggests that it might be better to ask a vampire. Simon reminds Clary about the time that he knocked a bully out, but explains that it was an accident. Maia shares a similar experience with a bully, and Simon wishes that he could go back to a time where bullies were there biggest problems.

Jace asks to speak to Clary and he shows her a picture of Morgan, explaining that she was nearly the Owl’s latest victim. He explains that the pepper spray affecting the Owl means that he’s part human, but Clary isn’t convinced that Jonathan is alive. Jace argues that they never found his body, and that he was also dead before Clary brought him back. He tells her that he’s been having dreams about Jonathan since the wish, and compares them to Clary’s dreams about the mirror that proved to be true. Jace tells Clary that he’s skipping family dinner to go to Morgan’s fundraiser, insisting that Jonathan will try to finish what he started.

Raphael receives a call informing him of Rosa’s death, and Isabelle visits him upon hearing the news. She embraces him, and insists he shouldn’t go through this alone. He tells her that Rosa was everything to him, and that the funeral will be during the day. Isabelle offers to go in his place, and tells him Rosa was lucky to have him. However, Raphael is tempted by the vein on her arm and suggests that she leave. Luke and Ollie (Alexandra Ordolis) investigate the latest Owl attack in the police station, and she loudly discusses the shadow world. He urges her to not talk about it, and she promises not to mention it to people who don’t need to know. She explains that she wants to tell her partner, but he warns her that it’s dangerous.

Isabelle compliments Clary’s appearance, and Clary asks if she’s noticed anything strange about Jace. She explains Jace’s theory that Jonathan is the Owl, and expresses her concerns. Isabelle decides to go with them, determining that it’s more important than dinner with Maryse. Alec and Magnus cook dinner together, and Magnus lies that the stew is good when Alec makes him taste it. When Alec answers the phone, Magnus fixes the recipe with his magic. Alec tells Magnus that Isabelle and Jace aren’t coming, and warns Magnus that Maryse will be on edge. However, they are surprised that Maryse is in good spirits when they answer the door.

Simon approaches Raphael and tries to talk to him about the mark. Raphael insists that it’s not a good time, and reminds him that Simon rejected his help twice when he tells him that it’s about his daylighter status. Simon is persistent, and Raphael insists that he can’t do it right now as he breaks down and charges at him. However, Simon’s mark throws him back and he orders Simon to stay away from him.

Alec is surprised as Magnus and Maryse really hit it off. She compliments his hosting ability, but he insists that it’s all Alec. Maryse is surprised that Alec can cook, and reveals that the stew he and Isabelle made for her as kids was terrible. Alec tells her that they thought she would be in a bad mood, and Maryse tells them that she does have bad news to share. She announces that the clave is exiling her for her former circle affiliation, and Alec is outraged. Magnus excuses himself, and Maryse tells Alec that his father received a lighter sentence. She asks him not to make it harder than it already is, insisting that her punishment is more severe because her crimes are more severe. Alec declares that he will fight for her, but she tells him not to ruin his accomplishments and that his generation will help fix the clave’s problems.

Clary, Isabelle, and Jace visit the fundraiser, and Jace warns them that the Owl might not look like Sebastian. Isabelle suggests that they split up, and Ollie expresses her excitement of meeting the shadowhunters outside the club. Luke insists that she doesn’t understand how dangerous her knowledge of the shadow world is, and tells her how Simon essentially died when he got involved in the world. Jace spots Jonathan in the club and approaches him, but he disappears after he grabs him. As Isabelle keeps an eye on Morgan, she is approached by Charlie Cooper (Brooks Darnell), who reminds her of their meeting at the hospital. She lies that she’s people watching and he asks for her number. Isabelle tries to refuse, but then changes her mind.

Maia tells Simon that visiting the Seelie Queen is not worth the risk, but Simon insists he needs to get the mark removed before he kills someone. Maia argues that he’s only hurt the people who have tried to hurt him, but Simon is terrified about hurting anyone. She offers to go with him, but Simon refuses. Maia tells him that he better come back, and he promises before jumping into the water. However, Simon is locked out and Maia assures him that they’ll figure things out as she wrings his wet jacket. She insists that she cares about him and will not stop trying to help. She suggests that they get him dry clothes, and promises they’ll work on another solution in the morning.

Jace spots Jonathan again and follows him to a back room. Jonathan comments on how confident Jace is as they clash blades. Jace asks what he’s doing with the mundanes, but Jonathan taunts him about his skill level and multiple last names. Jonathan puts Jace’s blade to Jace’s throat, and tells him that they are more alike than he thinks. Jace insists that he’s nothing like him, but Jonathan tells him they are the same despite the fact that Jonathan is better than him. Jace tells him that he’s looking forward to sending him back to Edom, and Jonathan hands him his weapon back before challenging him. Jace lunges at him, but Jonathan disappears.

Clary and Isabelle meet up and realize they’ve lost sight of Morgan. Isabelle sees Morgan’s phone on the ground, and they rush outside upon hearing Morgan’s screams. Clary and Isabelle fight off the Owl as well as a possessed Morgan. Isabelle chases Morgan, while the Owl pins Clary to the wall. She asks him if he is Jonathan, but he lets her go and leaps away. Maryse thanks Alec and Magnus for dinner, and asks Alec to let her tell Isabelle and Jace what happened. Maryse embraces Alec and thanks Magnus for loving her son before embracing him as well.

Simon finds Luke waiting for him, and realizes that he has to move out of the warehouse. He tells him he understands, and refuses Luke’s offer of finding him a new place to stay. Luke apologizes, and Simon assures him he’ll be okay. Raphael returns home and sets his broken arm back into place. He finds a vampire lying on the floor who reports that Heidi has escaped.

Isabelle and Clary observe Morgan as she is locked up in the Institute, and Isabelle expresses her regret at having to do it. Clary reminds her it’s for her own safety, and is concerned that Jace hasn’t returned yet. Isabelle tells her that Owl isn’t Jonathan since her whip didn’t affect the Owl the way it did Jonathan. The Owl returns to Lilith (Anna Hopkins) and bows before her. He takes off his glamour spell, revealing Jace underneath. Lilith pours the next of her disciples’ blood into the stone, declaring that she should have enough soon to revive Jonathan.
