She Is We – WAR
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I’m trying to modernize the 90’s movement musically. Alternative rock with a touch of pop.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) My experiences have definitely musically influenced me. I would listen to Nirvana, Bright Eyes and I owned every 90’s compilation record you could imagine. Enya is a huge one. Her harmonies are so dope.
Q) You were two weeks shy of becoming a police officer. What made you say “I”m all in” to music?
A) The timing was as if the universe was putting things into place. I knew what I was born to do, even though I was terrified. Music was my comfort and somehow it was made my job.
Q) What is the song writing process like for you? Do you need music before you create the lyrics?
A) It’s always changing. Sometimes I will have a line and build a track around it. Sometimes I build a track that expresses my emotional headspace and then I write over it based on what’s on my heart.
Q) What is the feel and vibe for your upcoming album “WAR?”
A) It’s about being at the bottom of the pit and climbing upward even when the light is dim.
Q) What was the most challenging part of making your album?
A) Having to finally face my demons. That was difficult, but my God was it therapeutic. I had to be real with myself. No more running and no more places to hide.
Q) What do you think it is about your song “Boomerang” that fans are really connecting to?
A) They’ve followed my journey. They’ve seen the betrayal and how I’ve continued to press on. I hope they can connect to never giving up regardless of the injustices they endure.
Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I have a vision. I have it all said and done in my head. This record has been my baby. Drum tones, guitar tones and everything in between are apart of that vision. So I’d say I’m very hands on.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Angel Haze would be my #1 pick. Her story and her boldness are so compelling and inspiring. I’d love to be apart of telling her story one day.
Q) She Is We will be touring with We The Kings shortly. What can fans expect from a live performance?
A) A sweaty love fest of storytelling. It’s about to get rowdy. Metal kids playing pop rock music will always make for a crazy experience.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Social media is why I have a job I love so much. Without social media, I wouldn’t be able to fall in love with the hearts I’ve never met. They’ve been there for me and the least I can do is be there for them.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?
A) I’m a testimony of why giving up isn’t an option. I’ve thought about it. I’ve considered it. But even after being shattered, I found a community of runaways that put me back together again. You’re not fighting this war alone. Never.
