Sibongile Mlambo – Hindsight: The Day Before
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What initially drew you to be a part of the series “Hindsight: The Day Before?”
A) Russell Boast, the casting director, contacted me about it. We’ve had a long relationship, and I trust the choices he makes with the projects he sends my way. I was intrigued by its unique premise and the talented cast that was attached. It felt like a fun and fresh way to explore this illusory and historical world.
Q) How was your character Bess Houdini originally described to you?
A) Bess was introduced to me as a strong, intelligent, and resourceful woman. She’s a quick thinker, a mastermind in her own right, and an excellent crime-solving partner to Harry.
Q) With the last name Houdini, were you told from the start how it would play into this magical world?
A) Yes, from the beginning, I knew that her connection to Harry Houdini would add layers to the magic and mystery of the series.
Q) You have some incredible costars. Were you familiar with any of them before costarring with them on the series?
A) I was familiar with John Goodman, of course, who isn’t?! I didn’t get to work with him directly, but I did become a fast fan of my costars that I got to share space with, like Santiago and Ian Anthony Dale to name a few.
Q) Santiago Cabrera makes quite a Prof. Strasser and voice acting doesn’t always mean that you work in the same room together. How were the two of you able to play off of one another so well for this project?
A) He does! This project did things differently in that we got to record our scenes together and play off of each other, so we were able to experience the events in real time.
Q) There are six fascinating episodes to enjoy. Which was your favorite and what makes it so significant to you?
A) My favorite episode would have to be Episode 5, where Harry and Bess team up and go out. It’s significant to me because we get to hear Harry’s thoughts about Bess and get insight into how smart she is, and then we get to experience it!
Q) What do you think it is about “Hindsight: The Day Before” that listeners find so fascinating?
A) I think it’s the combination of history and magical mystery. The writing – shout out to Kely Lyons – with twists and turns and various characters keeps listeners immersed and wanting more.
Q) We loved you on “Siren” and then “Roswell, New Mexico.” What did you learn from your time working on these fan favorite shows?
A) Thank you, I had so much fun on both shows! “Siren” was my first show as a series regular, so it was a big learning curve for me. It was really rewarding to have people connect that deeply with our characters and the story. “Roswell” was my first show out of the pandemic and the cast and crew were so welcoming and accommodating, including the fans! It showed me how much I truly love this industry.
Q) What are the other recent projects that you have been busy working on?
A) I recently finished filming a recurring role on Season 4 of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” and I’m currently working on a horror short film called Veins of the Veld with my siblings.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of the work you do on our screens?
A) To everyone who has supported my work, I’d like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your engagement and encouragement mean a lot to me, and it inspires me to keep pushing myself creatively. Stay tuned to see what’s next!
