Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I write lots of different styles of music, but they always seem to have this commonality of R&B inspired melodies and cadences. I like to keep it vibey but still anthemic.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) When I was growing up, it was mainly Mariah [Carey], Destiny’s Child and Ciara. I still love pretty R&B. Loooove Summer Walker, Kehlani, Ari. I have to mention Post Malone and Lil Uzi Vert. There’s so much dope stuff.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “OMG You Ain’t Shit.”

A) The story goes I was pretty depleted personally and creatively. I moved back to Nashville from LA where I lived a long time working my ass off. I unexpectedly felt as if I had been on this like hustle auto pilot for so long and kinda forgot what I even wanted to do or stood for…It was just like I re-evaluated my whole career…and that exhausted me in a lot of ways. But I’m glad it happened.

Did a lot of creating on my own to make fully what I wanted to make… I had to start trying to produce. So, one night I rented a hotel room literally right down the street from where I live. It just felt right…Yeah, I plugged in my midi key board, did a freestyle and took it to a very talented human to finish and get right. He kept a lot of what I did and every time I hear it back I’m like, “Damn, I played that! OMG U aint shit!”

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think it makes them think about that person or persons. Like everybody has somebody they just gotta say that to, to their face or behind closed doors. Everyone gets fucked over or not valued. Mistreated. Sometimes you give your power away to somebody. I think the song makes you kind of wanna take that back.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Sitting by my damn self, enjoying my damn time. I got my wine, my notepad, my headphones. The graphics were designed after a real photo of me in my room. I also feel like the whole video is spent kinda obsessing over this dude…which was like, the whole thing for me in a way.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I don’t, but in most ways I prefer it. Lyrics kinda come simultaneously with melody for me. But I also don’t necessarily need music to come up with a melody.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) It depends. Sometimes I literally start the production on my set up, even though that’s rarer for me. A lot of times I respect the producer and what they’re vibe is on that. Everyone has something they’re best at, but I’m an open collaborator and help get the song to the place it deserves.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Sooooo…I actually haven’t performed except for Grammy parties and events. I know that’s lame!!!! I’ve been a studio rat for SO long and that’s my next aim. <3

Q) By the age of seventeen you had written over a hundred songs. Do you have any personal favorites that still hold a special place in your heart?

A) Wow, what a good question. Yeah, I do. There’s probably a few, but I wrote a song called “Save Your Ammo” that jump started my whole career and ultimately got me signed to a publisher in LA. It was a song about my home life…my whole life.

Q) You have collaborated with a number of incredible artists from Justin Timberlake to Maluma. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) POST MALONE. PoSt Malon3. posT Malone. Posty. Post Malone. Drake.

Q) You taught yourself how to play the acoustic guitar and piano. Do you have any plans to spend this downtime learning any others?

A) Well, I mostly played guitar and piano when I was trying to get a deal back in the day…[laughs] Truth is I loved it but I was always better at singing and writing. I still write on those instruments, but I could probably take this time to get better at those. [laughs] I been playing ukulele.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I been listening to Bright Eyes because they make life feel special and sad and it def can be those two things.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I’m actually really glad I get the chance to answer this question. Most of my fans are on social media. It’s not a crazy number, but I don’t care! The fans I do have are die hards… I get to see them listening and sometimes get to talk to them in real time…which to me is important because in some ways that’s more meaningful than just the music.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would just wanna let them know that it means a lot that they resonated with something and that I’ve worked really fuckin hard and hope I can inspire them in some way. and that…I really appreciate them helping me feel less alone and accepted.
