Skercle

Gina Super was a mom with four kids looking for fun ways to get her fussy eaters to enjoy more fruits and veggies. Wanting to make sure that her children had something healthy before dessert was allowed, she thought of a safe way for them to enjoy skewered fruit without the spiky stick. It was in November 2016 when she was playing with her six-year-old that she came up with the idea for “Skercle,” a fun and fashionable way to get something good in their bellies.

Skercle is a combination of the words “skewer” and “circle.” Super thought it was the perfect name for her new creation. Skercle is for ages 3+ and allows for skewering items without the poke of a stick. They come in a number of colorful styles and themes (Fourth of July, Halloween, Easter, etc.) that are sure to fancy and fun up any meal or event.

Super’s first stop in 2017 was to Industrial Designs in California. There she began developing her product. They tested a number of colors and materials for her Skercle prototype. Additionally, they conducted the CPSC and FDA required testing. By 2019, Skercle headed to Brooklyn, NY for packaging design. This item is now a special wonderful way to surprise your kids for lunch or a snack.

We had the opportunity to try Skercle ourselves and found it to be so much fun! You can get so many sweet treats stacked on this easy to use skewer! While fruits and veggies did make their way onto our Skercle, we (as adults) thought of some grownup spins on it. We thought it would be a fabulous way to spruce up a fancy brunch by serving mini cherry tomatoes alternating with mozzarella (maybe with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar) or even slices of cucumber and tomatoes with a dip of ranch dressing for an easy afternoon nosh. How about dangling some pretzels with a bit of melted cheese? You can even play evens and odds with black and green olives.

However and to whomever you serve a Skercle, we think this is a dynamic and delicious new way to encourage healthy eating! It’s also easy to clean as it be popped right in the dishwasher. Whether you select a savory or sweet snack, Skercle is a wonderful new way to get your picky eaters to pick up something yummy for the tummy!
