Song Review: “If It Comes” by Mayne

Alternative rap artist Mayne has released his new single, “If It Comes.” This is a song that would be a perfect listen for anyone who appreciates rap music, as well as anyone who enjoys listening to blues, funk, R&B, and rock music. It is also highly recommended that anyone looking for well-produced songs about determination. 

“If It Comes” opens with a guitar sequence and synths while Mayne introduces his voice by delivering a few lyrics in a sing-song voice. Shortly thereafter, he begins to rap with the lyric “Apply the pressure hard/First off no second thoughts.” From here, listeners will be able to gather that Mayne is rapping instructions on how to get what one wants. The mid-tempo beat allows for a more laid-back flow from Mayne, differentiating himself from many rappers and truly cementing him as an alternative rap artist worthy of listening to. Memorable lyrics later in the song include “I’m running eight miles in the morning/I’m a different breed,” implying he is different from others in that he is determined from the very beginning of the day. This theme of determination will make listeners realize that Mayne not only has the talent to be a successful artist but also the drive to be one as well.
