Sonja Bennett – Stepping Into The Fog
Q. What are the current projects that you’re working on?
A. Right now I’m in the middle of shooting season two of a Canadian series called “Godiva’s.” It’s about ten employees of a restaurant and they follow their lives. I play Daisy, the pastry chef on the show and we’re just in the middle of season two.
Q. What can you tell us about the premise for your new movie The Fog and your character Jennifer?
A. Well, The Fog is based on the 70’s film The Fog about a small town and the fog starts to come in and it’s the quintessential horror movie. I play Jennifer, one of the girls that’s partying on a boat and essentially, I’m one of the first girls to die. Essentially, my purpose is to set up what the fog does and you get to see me all mashed up as a corpse and see what the fog has done to me.
Q. What made you want to be a part of this project?
A. Actually, I had auditioned for the part that Selma Blair ended up playing. I had heard about director Rupert Wainwright a little bit and I had never really done a horror movie before and it was just exciting to do an American movie. I’ve been doing a lot of Canadian stuff so it’s quite a different experience.
Q. How was getting to work with director Rupert Wainwright on this film?
A. Rupert was a lot of fun, he’s a huge jokester. He loves to play jokes and get people riled up on set, he’s a lot of fun.
Q. How does this version of the movie differ from the original?
A. I really don’t know, I never watched the original. I didn’t want to because I didn’t want to be influenced by it.
Q. Do you think the film’s PG-13 rating detracts from the viewers movie experience?
A. I haven’t seen The Fog yet, its comes out on the 14th so I can’t really speak on that.
Q. Do you have a most memorable moment from filming The Fog?
A. Yeah, the scene where my body gets thrown into the ocean and decomposes. So, there is a shot where the people are finding, me and my friend Mandy, our dead bodies. Instead of using fake dummies, Rupert wanted to make sure people could see that it was us. So, we went under water with scuba divers and basically had to play dead. We were scooped up by a giant net, I will never forget that, it was terrifying.
Q. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A. I live in Vancouver so there are lots of outdoors things to do. There is the ocean and you can walk around and I see movies, I see a lot of movies.
Q. Do you have a latest obsession? Are you into any particular sport, movie, book, music group or activity?
A. I saw Crash I guess a few months ago I think it’s the best movie that I’ve seen in a very, very long time. I highly recommend it!
Q. What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A. Thank you and go on the Internet and check out “Godiva’s,” it’s a Canadian series and I know it’s not there in the states but it’d be great to get it out there. Check out our website and the show is called “Godiva’s,” and definitely check it out and try and get this show over to you guys.
