Q) How would you best describe your sound?

A) Alternative pop/rock with a brit-pop twist.

Q) Who are your Top 3 musical influences?

A) Probably The Beatles, David Bowie, and The Beach Boys

Q) Tell us the story behind your latest single “Christmas Time.”

A) The song was written a little while back with New Politics member David Boyd. We were just having fun and did it as a fan celebration. I always liked the song a lot and wished I had a real recording of it, so when I showed it to Enci Records they said, “This is awesome! Go record it,” and here we are!

Q) Since its release, what has been the reaction to “Christmas Time” from your fans and listeners?

A) The response has been amazing! I think Christmas songs really can have a life on their own and time is a bit irrelevant. So, maybe this year a bunch of people will get to hear it and next year even more. I love that about the holidays because it is about tradition and togetherness. I am hopeful it will find a soft spot in all the Christmas hearts out there over the years.

Q) You also had the chance to work again with your band New Politics on “Christmas Time.” What did reconnecting mean to you?

A) It was great! I love the boys, and we never had a falling out, so it just felt fun and familiar. They are my brothers, and I am sure we will do much more together.

Q) In addition to a holiday single, you also released your solo debut album this year! Why was it so important for you to be more hands-on in the creative process of this album?

A) It just happened that way. I have been a record producer and songwriter in Nashville for a while, but when it came to my own music where I was the artist, I felt quite empty creatively. Suddenly the ideas started pouring out and I had a record before I knew it. I have some incredibly talented musician friends come to the studio and do their thing, too, and that was awesome! I’d like to think that the songs found their direction organically and that has always meant a lot to me.

Q) With the holiday season, what is one of your favorite annual traditions?

A) I was truly introduced to Christmas when I moved to New York. I met an amazing human, who is now one of my very best friends, and his family invited me in with open arms. So, I spent ten Christmases with them. We would make dumplings from scratch, and everyone was in the kitchen, listening to music and just enjoying each other’s company. That is probably my favorite Holiday tradition and who doesn’t like dumplings?

Q) Which song(s) was your favorite to write and record for your solo debut album?

A) I really enjoyed writing and recording all of them because they all mean something different to me. “Like Snow” is really special because of the meaning behind it and I was trying to break down some walls sound-wise as well. “Zoned Out” was pretty much written and recorded one late night where all the emotions just poured out and I think that translates to the recording. We did add some overdubs and fixed a lot of lyrics post, but the bulk was there. And “I Got You” was just a fun jam some friends and I came up with and I loved making that one, too.

Q) With the release of your solo album and “Christmas Time,” do you have any holiday shows planned?

A) Not this year. I actually just spent a couple of weeks in Denmark visiting and promoting my music. I think 2025 with be the year where I return to the road. Next year will hopefully have a lot of Holiday Shows!

Q) Which song do you love to play for fans at live shows?

A) I really enjoy playing “I Got You” and “Dream That I Die” live. They’re just fun to play and sing.

Q) Are you working on any new music with New Politics at the moment?

A) I am, actually. On a low-key level, but we’re definitely toying with the idea of playing some festivals. I am mainly focused on writing my next solo record and promoting the current one, though.

Q) Who would you love to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) That’s a great question! There are quite a few potential collabs in the works already! If I could choose anyone in the world, I wouldn’t mind a song with Ed Sheeran or Paul McCartney but who wouldn’t. [laughs] Got to dream big, right?

Q) What artists do you currently have on rotation that you listen to regularly?

A) I try to stay up to date with what’s going on and I think a lot of amazing music is coming out right now. But my go-to’s are Queen, [David] Bowie, Beatles, [The] Pixies, Tom Petty, The Killers, Beach Boys and that kind of thing. The songwriting is just next level, and I always get inspired.

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of your music?

A) That I frigging love you. You are so supportive, and you mean the world to me. I am incredibly fortunate to be able to put out music and you always push me to be more honest and real. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
