Star Crystal – Power of Love

By: Maggie Stankiewicz

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Our sound is pure energy with emotions! We blend the melodic heart of the ’80s with modern drive — big guitars, soaring vocals and that unmistakable glam spirit. It’s powerful, cinematic and full of light. We want every song to sound like a soundtrack to your best memories and your wildest dreams.

Q) You often classify your genre as glam metal. Who are some of your musical influences in this genre and beyond?

A) Definitely Whitesnake, Europe, Bon Jovi, FM, Dokken and Vixen — they taught us how to balance strength and melody. From beyond glam, we draw from Heart, Def Leppard and even movie soundtracks from the ’80s like Top Gun. Those songs had emotion, story, and atmosphere — everything we love in music.

Q) You hail from glam metal’s birth place. How has growing up in the culture influenced your sound and music?

A) Even though we’re from Ukraine, our hearts have always lived in the neon glow of ’80s Hollywood! That culture shaped our imagination — the fashion, the energy. It taught us that music isn’t just something you hear; it’s something you see and feel. So, when we play we bring that full experience to the stage — color, movement, and passion.

Q) As far as the genre has come, female fronted metal bands are still not as common as male fronted metal bands. Talk about your experience bending genres and leading as a musician in male dominated spaces.

A) I’ve always believed that rock has no gender. It’s about energy, emotion and truth. But yes — being a woman in a genre full of men pushes you to be stronger, louder and more authentic. I never try to imitate anyone; I bring my own fire. My goal is to show that femininity and power are not opposites — they’re unstoppable together.

Q) Last year’s single, “Power of Love,” is fully of glossy riffs and energetic drums. Is this a sound you wish to maintain in future releases?

A) Absolutely! “Power of Love” is a perfect reflection of who we are right now — that blend of passion, melody, and high-octane energy. It’s got that romantic fire and hard-rock punch we love. We’re definitely keeping that sound alive in our upcoming album, with maybe a few surprises and deeper emotions along the way.

Q) What kind of fan response have you been receiving to this track?

A) The feedback has been amazing! Fans tell us it makes them feel uplifted, motivated and even nostalgic. Some people said they listened to it during difficult moments and found strength in it — and that means everything to us. That’s exactly why we make music: to give people energy and hope.

Q) Star Crystal has been making music for more than a decade. What’s the top lesson you’ve learned about being an artist over the years?

A) The biggest lesson is: never lose your passion. Music is not a race — it’s a journey. You’ll face challenges, but if you stay true to what you love, everything else falls into place. We’ve learned to be patient, to evolve and to enjoy every step, no matter how tough it gets.

Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can craft lyrics?

A) Usually, Alex brings a riff or melody first — that’s the spark. Once I hear it, the emotion just starts to form in my head. Then, the lyrics come naturally, like a story the music is already telling me. Every song begins with a feeling — love, friendship, strength — and we build it from there together as a band.

Q) With “Power of Love” out is there an album or EP you’re currently working on?

A) Yes! We’re deep into recording our third album. Eight songs are already written, and many have been performed live. We’re recording and mixing everything in our own studio, and the sound feels like a true rebirth for us — powerful, emotional, and full of life.

Q) Who are some people you’d like to collaborate with in the future?

A) Oh, that’s easy — Whitesnake would be a dream! Imagine doing “Still of the Night” together! But also artists like Heart or Europe — people who share that melodic soul and theatrical flair. We also love the idea of working with modern producers who can merge the old-school vibe with new sounds.

Q) You’re on social media. What does it mean to you to be able to connect with your fans in such a way?

A) It’s amazing. Social media lets us stay close to our fans wherever they are — Ukraine, Italy, the U.S. – everywhere. We get messages from people who tell us our songs helped them smile again or chase their dreams. That connection makes all the hard work worth it. It’s a family, not just a fan base.

Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of your work?

A) From the bottom of our hearts: thank you. You’re the reason we keep going, even through hard times. Your love and support mean the world to us. Keep believing in your dreams, never give up and keep the glam spirit alive. We’ll see you on the road — and together, we’ll make the world shine a little brighter! 🤘✨
