Star – Family Affair

Carlotta (Queen Latifah) is giving an interview about Gravity Records new deal with Karma nightclub. As she is happily explaining her background and how she feels about it, Mateo (William Levy) approaches while watching everything happen from behind the scenes. Suddenly, the woman receives a call from Andy (Elijah Kelley) and decides to take a break from the interview. Mateo comes closer to her and lets her know that the interview should be about Gravity Media and not herself, but she believes that he is still mad at her for releasing the Take 3 single without telling him and if the deal with Karma is a hit, it would be her victory and not his.

Noah (Luke James) wakes up and sees his father Bobby (Harold Perrineau) making some breakfast. The man scolds his son for not having signed the Karma nightclub contract yet. They get into a small discussion about it, which leads to Noah finally doing it. In the meantime, Cassie (Brandy Norwood) is enjoying some time with Xander (Chad Michael Murray), the investor of her club.

At Gravity Media the girls are doing a photoshoot and when they finish it they are advised by Miss Bruce (Miss Lawrence) to go straight to a rehearsal, but first Simone (Brittany O’Grady) needs to go to Mateo´s office. Alex (Ryan Destiny) asks her about the travel she has planned for Olivia (Kayla Smith), Bianca´s (Alexis Louder) sister, while telling her the reason she is bringing the girl to Atlanta. All of a sudden Jackson (Matthew Noszka) shows, attempting to keep an eye on Star (Jude Demorest) and her baby but the woman makes it clear that she knows she can take care of herself.

Mateo has a meeting with Blaire (Melissa Saint-Amand), the reporter that had interviewed Carlotta earlier on the episode, and he lets her know that she should be writing about him and not Carlotta. The woman approaches him saying that she will do that only if there is something in it for her and then they start kissing. Simone arrives at Mateo´s office and sees the scene happening before her so she leaves in a haste, wearing a very shocked expression.

When she comes down the stairs she meets with Nina (Camila Banus) who confirms that she will be the one starring the movie along with Noah. Nina congratulates her and then walks away, something that leaves Simone even more confused. Alex meets with Olivia who seems to be over excited about meeting the singer.

Later that day Carlotta and Noah arrive at Karma nightclub where they meet with Cassie who lets her sister knows that she is the owner of the club. Carlotta meets with Andy and gives him money and then asks him to leave town again. He tries to apologize for what happened with Jahil (Benjamin Bratt), but the woman stops him. When Andy leaves, Carlotta is left with Jahil´s ghost who “helps” her figure out who is the investor behind her sister´s club.

Star is rehearsing when Simone walks in. Star scolds her sister for arriving late, but Simone replies sounding annoyed and when she sees that her sister was just kidding with her she confesses that she got the part for the movie. Star congratulates her and then they start to rehearse, but then blonde stops when the baby starts to kick making Simone wanting to feel it as well. The girl apologizes for not being with her at the ultrasound and Star lets her know that she wants to leave all that behind and give her baby the life they didn´t get to have – a strong mother, a father, an aunt and even a grandfather as she is planning to find Brody (Stephen Dorff) and let him walk into her life again.

Alex is showing her wardrobe to Olivia and the girl seems to be really surprised about it. She confesses to Alex how everything has been feeling since Bianca died, which makes Alex open to her and telling he the truth making Olivia to yell at her that she was the reason her sister died and then running away from the place.

Ruby (Juanita Jennings) is at her house with Derek (Quincy Brown) when some loud noises are heard on the street and she gets startled. The guy tries to calm her down and then she begins to tell him that all she can see whenever she closes her eyes is the man´s face. She also provides some information that may help Derek to figure out who the guy is that was the attacker. Carlotta meets with Xander and lets him know that she is aware he is helping her with the club and threatens him with what will happen if she finds out his money comes from a dirty source.

Olivia calls Alex and the girl shows up at her hotel room. The younger girl apologizes to her and when Alex walks in she hears music and figures that the girl singing is Olivia. Alex manages to convince her to produce a song for her. It´s Jayden´s (Trayce Malachi) birthday party and everyone is happily enjoying until Cassie walks in and gets into a heated discussion with Carlotta about the club ending with Cassie leaving the place. Noah decides to stay with Carlotta instead of signing with Maurice (Lance Gross). Later, he goes to his house and finds his father there playing a guitar. They share a small light-hearted conversation until his father mentions that he needs to start making some money and Noah feels like he is using him again. He throws some cash at him and asks him to go away. Maurice calls for Cassie, but she wants to stay a little moment on her own. While she does, she thinks of her performing and singing on stage.

The girls, Carlotta, Olivia and Miss Bruce are gathered on the dressing room waiting to be called on stage. Mateo walks in with Blaire in tow while Simone looks at them uncomfortably. Blaire asks Carlotta to go with her to finish their interview and Mateo follows them. Star receives a call from Detective Batista (Phillip DeVona) and tells Simone that they need to go. In the meantime, Bobby has a heartfelt talk with Noah where he apologizes to him. Afterwards, Noah goes on stage after been introduced by Cassie and sings for his father. Star and Simone are at the morgue where they see Brody´s body laying still.

The sisters are back to the club; Simone tells Star that she doesn’t have to perform if she doesn’t want to, but she agrees to do it anyway. Due to Miss Bruce, Alex and Olivia´s shocked faces, Simone ends up confessing that Brody died. Take 3 is called upon the stage and when they are about to perform Star freezes and recalls her last interaction with his father.

She walks down the stage and goes straight to Jackson asking him to take her out of there. Nina approaches to Simone and asks her if her sister is okay and then Mateo interrupts them and Simone decides to confess what she saw at the office then walks away. When she turns her to look at them, she sees that the couple are kissing much to her own disbelief. Olivia and Alex are taking a break from the everything that has been happening. The younger girl hands a framed picture of Bianca to Alex as a gift and then Derek walks in and is introduced to Olivia who caresses him and compliments him much to Alex´s discomfort. A song starts to play and Olivia dances sexily with Alex. Derek notices someone from afar who might be the one who abused his grandma, so he makes his way through the crowd and up to the other man, but he couldn’t find him.

After the talk he shared with his father Noah has decided that what Gravity Media has offered is not the kind of freedom he is looking for so her tells Carlotta that he wants to sign with Maurice and Cassie instead. Cassie teases Carlotta about it, but the second one that her sister is just doing it to get to her head and mess her up and not because she cares for Noah´s career. So, she gets mad and throws a punch at her. Both end up on the floor, fighting and putting up quite a show. They are broken apart by other people and Carlotta walks into her studio where she begins to talk to Jahil again. Cotton (Amiyah Scott) chases Carlotta to the studio and asks her to tell her what is truly happening and for a moment it seems she will, but then stops herself from confessing that Cassie was the one who killed Jahil, so she opts to hug her instead.

Simone and Miss Bruce are heading home when the second one sees Bobby standing there and they start to talk animatedly to each other. The man invites her for a drink, but she says that she needs to take Simone home, yet the girl asks her to stay. Alex and Derek arrive home while she tells him about she confessed everything to Olivia. The guy seems to be a little off but decides not to tell Alex about it. He goes to take a shower while she unpacks the framed picture that Olivia gave her; she puts it on her dresser and then a little red light at the back of the frame begins to flicker going unnoticed by Alex.

Jackson asks Star to talk to him and let people truly enter her life. As she believes that he seems to know everything she needs, she asks him what is that something she needs at the moment. He replies that she needs to laugh and he decides to do a strip tease for her.

Cassie meets with Xander who asks for a little dirty favor from her; he walks away and then another man enters carrying Andy with him. The man seems to be part of the gang that Ruby´s aggressor belongs to. Cassie greets Andy and gives him a kiss.
