Star – Toxic

The episode opens with Simone (Brittany O’Grady) finally reunited with Angel (Evan Ross). They are speaking about how happy they are that Atlanta has now completely become into a safe city for immigrants, so the girl is no longer afraid of losing him. Also, Angel is surprised to see how she has been taking charge of everything. Simone confesses that even though she is having a great time with him, she had promised Noah (Luke James) that she will babysit Davis. Suddenly, Angel throws an uncertain look at her and says that he just realized that the condom broke.

 

Alex (Ryan Destiny) is sharing a conversation with Derek (Quincy Brown) about her mother that had recently started to call her to ask for her forgiveness. The girl is convinced that this is one of those tricks her mother used to play back in the day and it won’t just fix anything or erase years of bad memories. Right then Miss Bruce (Miss Lawrence) shows up and tells Alex that Gigi (Keke Palmer), who turns out to be in the company of her two aunts, Missy (Asha Kamali) and Ginny (Tammi Mac), is having a live and throwing shade against Alex. The girl says that the reason why Alex was nominated for an ASA it’s only because she is the daughter of Roland Crane (Lenny Kravitz) and nothing else. Alex is not so sure about what to do about it but Miss Bruce encourages to strike back and don’t let her win.

 

Noah is having an interview about his new album called Sober where he talks about parenting solo while Star (Jude Demorest) is in jail, leaving his addiction behind and the upcoming ASA’s nominations. He manages to do it all well and after he wraps the interview he walks straight to Davis and makes sure the baby is alright. While he does he takes a pill for his back pain while Simone watches him from the stairs. She approaches him and questions him about it, but he swears that he is just trying to ease his pain and nothing else.

 

Cassie (Brandy Norwood) calls Maurice (Lance Gross) into her apartment and grants him a picture that proves that Xander (Chad Michael Murray) is tied up to Gravity Media. In said picture we can see Mateo (William Levy) handing a suitcase to an unknown man that Cassie recognizes as one of “Xander’s goons.” Maurice appreciates the heads up and also shows interest in having a conversation with the woman about a kiss they had shared some time ago, but she makes clear that she is not one to mess with her sister’s previous boyfriends.

 

Alex calls for a meeting with Maurice and Gigi where she challenges for a “silent listening party” where they could perform three tracks each while Houston Connelly (Shari Headley) will be there and agreed to make a review of their music. As Gigi knows that Houston is the one that would always predict the ASA nominations, she is up for the challenge.

 

Star calls Simone and confesses that she feels like dying without seeing Davis. Her trial date has been moved again and she feels they have been messing with her lawyer. Even though it breaks Simone’s heart to hear all that, there’s not much she can do but to support her. She suggests singing along with her and Star agrees. Simone, Alex, Miss Bruce and Cotton (Amiyah Scott) are gathered and discussing Star’s future. They all agree that there is something definitely wrong with it and are sure that Charlene (Nealla Gordon) has a lot to do with it.

 

Simone goes back to Noah’s place and shares some time with Angel who is babysitting Davis. She looks at them and confesses she likes to see him like that. Although that was something, they both were pursuing a while ago, now it seems they are on different pages.

 

Simone and Alex make a public appearance at a bar where they meet with Gigi. Alex gets mad when she sees her VIP seats are taken by the girl and does not hesitate to go straight to her and claim what is hers. As expected Gigi puts up and argument and even kisses Alex, which makes the girl leave since she gets tired of just fighting with empty arguments. The next day Alex, Simone and Miss Bruce meet and the last one confesses that she discovered that the judge that is in charge of Star’s case has been meeting with a woman at a certain hotel so she believes that Charlene is the one behind all of the delay in the blonde’s case.

 

Dr. Henderson (A. Smith Harrison) visits Noah and decides to change his medication, but the man requests to continue taking oxy since it has worked well for him. Calvin (Ben Vereen) is visiting his daughter Cassie telling her that something is not right with him and asks for her help, but she denies him. Right on cue Maurice walks in and watches the whole scene. He suggests Cassie listen to his father before it’s too late, but she is now more interested in getting Xander and making him pay for what he did.

 

Gigi is at the recording studio trying to pick some songs for the “silent listening party” when Missy walks in. Missy encourages her to take some drugs in order to get creative while Alex sees them and records the whole interaction.

 

In the meantime Judge Kallenbach (Bill Winkler) and Charlene are spending some interesting time together at a motel when Miss Bruce, Simone and Cotton break in and record the whole scene. They ask the judge to confess that Charlene has been bribing him and help Star to get out of jail or they will release the video and he will lose his wife and job. The man surrenders leaving a very mad Charlene behind. Derek convinces Alex to do nothing with Gigi’s video since she knows what it is to deal with something like drugs and alcohol in the family. He also reminds her that if there is a way to get the woman down that is with Alex’s music.

 

Simone and Noah are invited to perform at Irv Riddick’s (Rick Ross) fiancee’s bachelorette party where they both have a great time. After they wrap the presentation Simone receives a notification that Star will be released and soon reunited with Davis.

 

Alex meets Gigi before the contest and tells her that she has no intention in releasing the video. SHe just asks her to take care of herself and be safe. After she leaves Ginny (one of Gigi’s aunts that has been listening to everything that Alex said) demands to be told about it. That is when Gigi shows her the video of herself and Missy getting high.

 

It’s contest time and while Gigi and Alex are in the middle of it Ginny shows up and tells her niece that the video has been released, something that gets the girl utterly mad at her aunt Missy and gets her fired. On the other hand Maurice and Cassie are still discussing about how to get Xander caught when the woman receives a call saying that her father is at the hospital.

 

Houston tells Alex that she will have the article about the event ready by midnight and how there is no doubt in her artistry. Simone walks in and shows Alex that Gigi’s video is all over the internet now, but she assures them that it was not her who posted it and has no idea what happened. Gigi tries to leave the event amidst everyone’s weird looks. While she stares at them a gunshot is heard and suddenly Missy is lying on the floor with a gun in her hand. Gigi screams for an ambulance.

 

ASA nominations are ready and it is revealed that Noah and Alex’s song has been nominated. It is expected that Star gets to be nominated as well, but instead is Gigi the chosen one. Noah visits Gigi and the girl is sure that Alex released the video. Now all of her world has just fallen apart. She tells him about her story and Noah tries to soothe her.

 

Cassie visits Calvin at the hospital. She is ready to speak the truth, but then something happens and Calvin confuses her with Carlotta (Queen Latifah). She yells at him about how he rapped her sister and treated her bad and the man ends up confessing that Carlotta’s “apparently deceased” baby is actually alive.

 

ASA’s Best Pop Album is released, and it is revealed that “Take Three” has been nominated as well.

 

Star is still in jail when a prisoner (Miya Golden) that has been bullying her all along walks in saying that she has a message from Charlene. Even though Star tries to defend herself, she ends up beaten and lying on the floor.
