Star – Watch the Throne

Star (Jude Demorest) is notified that her trial will be pushed back four months as per Charlene’s (Nealla Gordon) request, alleging that she needs time to prepare. Star attempts to say goodbye to her son but is pushed away from him. Later that night Noah (Luke James) arrives at Karma and meets with Maurice (Lance Gross) to let him know about the recent news on Star’s trial. He also lets him know about how tired he feels as a single parent and how interested he is in going back to the music scene. Since ASA nominations are around the corner, he wants to be sure he’s ready for it. Noah also notices that Lil Dini (Marcos Palacios) has been trying to take his place at Karma, but he assures Maurice that he is ready for his Karma performance nights. Noah faces Lil Dini and asks him to stay away from his seat since he’s ready to come back. Lil Dani doesn’t go without throwing a little argument at him.

 

In the meantime Alex (Ryan Destiny) is at the ASA photoshoot while Simone (Brittany O’Grady) and Derek (Quincy Brown) watch her from behind the scenes. Simone informs Derek that she will be having a meeting the next day with the Atlanta Community Council and invite them to the immigration fundraiser at Karma. She knows that maybe she cannot help Star right now but at least she will try to do something for Angel (Evan Ross). Alex takes a break from the photoshoot and approaches them saying that she feels weird for moving on while Star is having a terrible time, but Simone assures her that if she would miss that opportunity Star would drag her ass. Suddenly, they are interrupted when Alex receives a box that turns out to be a Sapphire Party Invite to which Alex refers to as a very exclusive pre-ASA event. Said box contains a mic that according to Alex is also an invitation to perform at it.

 

Back at Karma Lil Dini is having fun with his friends when one of them spots Noah completely asleep at his coach. Lil Dini hurries up and takes a photo of him. In the meantime at Gravity Records, while Alex is still at her photoshoot, a loud siren sound is heard making everybody gather outside the building only to realize that Gigi (Keke Palmer) has arrived in a truck surrounded by some guys half dressed as firemen. She faces Alex and tells her that she cannot compete or compare with her and she must be ready cause the queen is back.

 

On the other side of town Simone, Derek and Mateo (William Levy) are finally faced with the Atlanta Community Council to present them their concerns and intentions to fight for Atlanta to be a safe place for immigrants. The councilman (Dustin Lewis) believes they have an ulterior motive to present this initiative, but then Simone is compelled to speak about her situation in regards Angel and how that is the real reason she is fighting for this. Regardless of the efforts, the councilman decides that the meeting has been a waste of time and ends the session leaving Simone and the other two guys surprised at such decision.

 

Simone meets with Noah to catch up on her nephew and talk about the recent events in regards Star and her efforts to help Angel. Back at Gravity Records we see Gigi, her aunt Missy (Asha Kamali) and her aunt Ginny (Tammi Mac) face Maurice to ask him to include Gigi in the ASA campaign instead of Alex or at least to make them to have a duet, alleging that she is better than Alex. She also says that the girl does not need any publicity, but Maurice refuses to do that.

 

Simone, Mateo and Derek meet to plan a strategy to get the sanctuary supporters to be on their side. In order to do so Simone has called Lucia Dopazo (Zulay Henao), the spokesperson of the supporters. The woman walks in as if cue and immediately shows her distate towards Mateo, who turns out to be someone she grew up with back in Cuba. The woman believes that Mateo just wants to take advantage of the situation and use it to promote his label. Even though he and Simone assure her that is not the reason, Lucia does not believe them.

 

Maurice meets with Alex and Miss Bruce (Miss Lawrence) to let Alex know that Gigi wants to do a duet with her, but Alex refuses the idea immediately. After a brief chat and review the pros of doing so, she finally agrees. Xander (Chad Michael Murray) visits Mateo to ask him for a favor, but is refused. He only asks Mateo to take the check with the money he owns him and leave.

 

Cassie (Brandy Norwood) shows up at Maurice’s office to ask for some cash from him, but she realizes that Xander’s goons are all around the building and believes that he is doing dirty business with him and dragging Carlotta’s (Queen Latifah) label with it. As she shows up with bat in hand ready to kick his ass, he calls security to take her out of there.

 

Alex and Simone pay a visit to Star and let her know that everyone is helping with Davis so she shouldn’t be worried for anything else but to get out of jail as soon as possible. They also let them know that Gigi wants to compete against Alex at the Sapphire party and Simone tells her that she is trying to help Angel, but everything seems to be complicated now. Star assures her that if there is someone who can do something about it is her and that the Davis’ sisters do not to stop fighting that easily

 

Xander comes back to Mateo and asks him to do a favor for him. If he refuses, he will go after his uncle Camilo. Mateo gets mad and they start punching each other, but then Xander points a gun at him and tells him that he will help Mateo to clean some money since his last washer and him parted ways. Maurice arrives to his office and he finds everything upside down and immediately believes that the one responsible for that is Cassie. So, he goes straight to her place and scolds her for messing up with his office, but the woman explains that she would not mess with her sister’s business. She also reminds him that maybe it was Xander’s guys who did it, but Maurice seems to know nothing about it.

 

Noah visits Alex while she is trying to make a song at the studio. He asks her if she will take Derek with her to the Sapphire party but she tells him that the man will be busy at Karma so Noah suggests her to take him instead so that way he would have the chance to be on the spotlight and she agrees. Mateo meets with Lucia at the immigration event at Karma. He thanks her for showing up, but she tells him he is not the reason why she is there. They flirt a little and even get to dance together. Then, Simone shows up at the stage and gives a speech about how she almost didn’t make it to the event, but she also expresses how Star encouraged her to do so. She says that even though she is not an immigrant, she was ripped from her family at a young age and now she has been separated from her husband. She states that is why she is interested in collaborating to make Atlanta a Sanctuary city. After wrapping up her speech, she decides to entertain the audience with a song.

 

Alex and Noah arrive at the Sapphire party. Lil Dini is there as well. They encourage each other to give their best and split ways in order to do so. Gigi is getting ready for her performance and has a small conversation with her aunts before she does. They tell her that she should stop trying to be someone she is not. Gigi gets mad and retorts that she is better than Alex and will beat her on stage.

 

On the other side of the room Lil Dini tries to steal some champagne away from the waitress, but she tells him that he can’t since the bottle is for Noah Brook’s table. The man follows the girl and tries to start an argument with Noah by making fun of him, but Noah has enough of the guy and punches him in front of everyone. Alex and Gigi stand next to each other while watching at the stage where they will be performing within a few minutes. Gigi tries to annoy Alex with her comments on how she is planning to drag her on stage, but the other girl doesn’t not let anything get in her head. The moment has finally arrived and now both Alex and Gigi are on the stage. Alex starts to sing and when Gigi tries to follow it turns out that her mic is off making her to leave the stage and letting the other girl to perform on her own.

 

Simone and Mateo approach to the councilman and tell him that the girl’s performance has gone viral, so she asks him to move the vote forward. Next thing she is up to? Prison reform. The councilman assures Mateo that the girl is something else. Mateo gives the man a check in order to support Xander’s new project and lets him know that he will keep supporting him. Lucía has been watching the whole exchange and tells him that she can see that nothing has changed. She then attempts to walk away, but Mateo stops her and kisses her saying that some things never change.

 

Maurice shows up at Cassie’s office and apologizes for blaming her of vandalizing his office.  Hr tells her that Gigi’s aunts where the ones who did it.

 

Gigi and Alex meet after the showcase. Gigi recognizes that Alex was brave enough to prove herself, but that does not mean that the war is over. Noah lays Davis in his crib and sits among the darkness next to him while feeling exhausted and in pain so he finally decides to take some pain killers.

 

Star is walking to her cell when she is stopped by another woman who has been paid to pick a fight with her. Star assures her that no one will stop her from coming home to her boy and as a way to calm herself down she enters her cell and starts to sing instead.
