Stereos – Hands Off You
By: Jennifer Vintzileos
Q) How would you best describe your sound?
A) One of the things I enjoy most about this band is each song can kind of have its own personality or genre influence. So, for that reason I usually just describe the band as “pop,” which gives it the space to be whatever we feel like making it at any given time.
Q) Who are your Top 3 musical influences?
A) These also can kind of change from one song or album to the next, but I’d say some constants would be AFI, Prince and The-Dream. They’re all artists who have been able to change their sound while always delivering an incredible hook, which is what I’m always trying to do as well.
Q) Tell us the story behind the single “Hands Off You.”
A) “Hands Off You” was a song I wrote over the pandemic, just describing sort of this mutual isolation of two people who are trying to make a connection despite being forced to be apart for the time being.
Q) You also released a music video for “Hands Off You.” How did you come up with the concept for the video?
A) The concept was honestly very simple and just revolved around what I think it is we do best, which is just a very straightforward performance scene for the most part. Shout out Lee Zavitz who shot this for nailing it.
Q) You also released a single called “Glory Days.” With both singles out now, is there a full-length album in the works?
A) I can definitely say that a full-length album is in the works.
Q) What message can fans take away from “Hands Off You” and “Glory Days?”
A) Well, they’re two very different songs from one another. I’d say for “Glory Days” specifically though, it’s just kind of a way of poking fun at ourselves for how we love to tell stories about “the good ‘ol days” while also giving ourselves a little pat on the back for all the crazy things we’ve been able to accomplish.
Q) “Glory Days” pays homage to tour life. With new music being released, are there any plans for an upcoming tour?
A) Oh, absolutely. That’s always our favorite part – getting out on the road and playing to our fans.
Q) Which song is a fan favorite at live shows?
A) Well, the obvious one would be “Summer Girl,” but a close second, I think would be “Turn It Up.”
Q) If you had the chance to do a collaboration, who would you love to work with and why?
A) I’d say Davey Havok from AFI because his music and abilities as a frontman are what inspired me to do this in the first place, but I’m almost positive our sound would be the last thing he’d want to do. [laughs]
Q) What are you currently listening to?
A) Right now, I’m in a huge hip hop zone. Pop Smoke is my go-to currently.
Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of your music?
A) Anyone who loves us or has ever loved us is the reason we do this, and without them we have nothing. They mean more to us than they’ll ever know!
