Stitchers – Perfect
By: Jessica Wolff
Cameron (Kyle Harris) inspects his new office and admits to Kirsten Clark (Emma Ishta) that it’s weird not seeing Maggie (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) not sitting in her chair. He likes his new chair and Kirsten straddles him before kissing him. Cameron thanks her for taking him to meet his mom and she admits that it felt like she was taking him to meet her. As they go to get coffee, a new name appears on Maggie’s locked up machine: Mark Broden (Daniel Kash). Camille Engelson (Allison Scagliotti) stumbles into the conference room and tells Linus (Ritesh Rajan) to stop texting so loud. Kirsten tells Camille that she looks like hell, but she denies being hungover. When she finds out that Linus is texting Ivy Brown (Sarah Davenport) Camille expresses her frustration that he willingness to trust her cost her the promotion given to Cameron and tells Linus that they are not okay.
After announcing the victim’s name for the new case, Cameron looks to Camille to provide the details. Camille tells him that she is able to provide the details because Maggie gives her the case files ahead of time so that she has time to prepare. Cameron tries to present the information, but runs into technical difficulties. Frustrated, Camille grabs the tablet and does the short presentation herself. Cameron asks if she’s done and she reminds him that she had three seconds to prepare. Camille takes his coffee and hopes that today’s stitch is quiet. Outside, Cameron tells her that she made him look like an idiot and she responds that he didn’t need her for that. He reminds her that Maggie gave him the promotion and that she needs to let it go and work with him to solve the case. She sarcastically asks if she’s dismissed and Cameron lets her go.
As they prepare for the stitch, Cameron tells Kirsten that he’s still worried about the problems with her recent stitches. She brushes him off and tells him to let her do her job. He reminds her that he is charge now and tells her that he needs support instead of attitude. As the stitch begins, Kirsten sees Broden arguing with his wife, Barbara Broden (Nadia Sloane) about his infidelity. Barbara demands that he give her a divorce or she will kill him. In the next memory, Kirsten sees Broden arguing with a woman with her face wrapped in bandages about his infidelity. The next memory shows Broden having sex with a woman dubbed Miss Perfect (Sarati). She becomes affected by the stitch and Linus announces that there is a lot of oxytocin in the stitch.
Camille notices Cameron’s hands shaking as he tells Kirsten to bounce. She insists that she stay and Cameron moves her to the death memory. She sees Broden in bed with Miss Perfect and he has trouble breathing. Ayo (Sola Bamis) warns that Kirsten is having respiration problems and Camille tells Cameron to move Kirsten closer to the death. Moving closer to the death, Kirsten’s respiration problems increase. Kirsten bounces and is provided an oxygen mask as she recovers. Cameron checks on Kirsten and asks who shot Broden. Kirsten tells him that Broden died of asphyxiation. Camille suggests that whoever shot him might not have known that he was already dead.
After doing more research, Camille finds that Broden won a lot of cases as a divorce attorney and had tons of affairs. Detective Quincy Fisher (Damon Dayoub) reports the status of the investigation. Cameron asks why everyone is staring at him and Camille tells him to say something managerial. He tells them to bring in Barbara for questioning and Camille sarcastically asks if the job is too hard for him. Camille apologizes soon after and Cameron asks her to run the next stitch. In the interrogation, Barbara complains that Broden was always trying to mold her into the perfect woman. When confronted with the evidence that she was at the scene of the crime as well as the murder weapon being found in the house, she confesses to the murder.
Fisher reports that Barbara thought that Broden was asleep when she shot him, but that he was unusually quiet. Kirsten questions if he died of an allergic reaction or poison and Fisher promises to look into it. Cameron asks to see Kirsten in his office and admits that he doesn’t want things to be tense with her at work. She apologizes again and promises to be fully supportive of him. Linus comes in as they are making out and tells them to stop if Kirsten wants to keep stitching. He tells them that the levels of oxytocin in the stitch were because of Kirsten and that her brain chemistry has been affected by her feelings for Cameron.
During his investigation, Fisher finds a container of coconut water that explodes in his face. Realizing that he’s been poisoned, he calls Camille as he washes himself off. Camille tells the group that the coconut water had materials used in Botox that can cause asphyxiation. They drink to figuring out the cause of death and Cameron is not happy about the oxytocin problem. Kirsten explains the problem to Camille and Cameron draws attention back to the case. They figure that the plastic surgeon, Dr. Sophia Torres (Tia Texada), that Broden was having an affair with laced the drink with the chemical. Cameron tells them that they have the rest of the night off and Kirsten goes to bed while Cameron goes home to take a cold shower.
As they walk to their appointment with Dr. Torres, Cameron and Kirsten both admit they’re having trouble with their inability to be intimate. They remark that the office is empty as they sit in the waiting room. Dr. Torres greets them and they are shocked to see the horrible plastic surgery done on her face. She tells them that Broden pushed her to change herself so that she would look perfect, and that he left her for someone who was more perfect. Kirsten takes a call from Camille, who tells her that the autopsy shows no evidence of the Botox chemicals in Broden’s system, which meant that Dr. Torres wasn’t responsible either. She hears a crash and finds Dr. Torres with a syringe to Cameron’s neck. She confesses to injecting the coconut water, but Kirsten tells her that Broden didn’t drink it. She tells her that she will leave with Cameron and that she will inject him if Kirsten tries to stop her. Kirsten and Cameron use a distraction to wrestle the syringe away from Cameron’s neck and subdue her.
After discussing the facts of the case, the team determines that Broden either died of natural causes or Miss Perfect killed him. Kirsten is surprised that Camille is taking over the stitch and she tells her that Cameron asked her too. Kirsten admits that he’s been under a lot of pressure lately, and Camille remarks that he has no way to release it. Camille asks Kirsten to leave the house tonight, as she has a guest coming over. In the stitch, Kirsten replays the death memory. Her oxytocin levels rise again and Camille asks Kirsten what she’s seeing. She sees Broden pick up Miss Perfect and stuff her in a secret closet. Kirsten bounces at Camille’s urging and tells them that Broden was keeping Miss Perfect hostage.
Fisher and Camille open the secret compartment and Miss Perfect falls out. Back at the lab, the team stares at Miss Perfect, an anatomically correct sex doll. Camille questions how she was able to talk in the stitch and Kirsten assumes that it’s because Broden wanted to believe she was real. Linus tells them that the doll was equipped with audio and video functionality. Kirsten suggests that Miss Perfect recorded Broden’s death, but Linus reports that the video only can be accessed from the doll company’s server.
Cameron and Kirsten go to the company and meet the owners, Julie Underhill (Kate Amundsen) and Sam Underhill (T.J. Linnard). Kirsten asks to see the video, but Julie tells them that they can’t show them in order to protect the identities of their elite clientele. Kirsten promises to come back with a warrant and Julie offers to show them the doll making process. Sam explains that each doll is a work of art and that the artists get frustrated when customers nitpick the designs like Broden did. Later, Kirsten and Cameron drink together and express their frustration over being unable to be intimate. Cameron is annoyed when Kirsten implies that she thought not being together would be easy. They argue and Kirsten leaves in frustration.
Amanda (Anna Akana) plays guitar and sings for Camille and she is impressed by her ability. She suggests some chord changes and Amanda gets her to admit that she’s played in the past. Amanda encourages her to play for her, despite Camille’s hesitation. Though a little rusty at first, Camille plays and sings for her. Amanda is impressed and kisses her. Ivy is surprised to see Kirsten at her door, but invites her in. At the lab, Linus runs a material test on Miss Perfect and finds that she’s made of latex. As Ivy works out, Kirsten teases her about her routine. She tells her about her fight with Cameron and they comment how their evening feels like sisterly bonding. Kirsten gets a text and thanks Ivy for dinner before rushing out.
Nobody is happy to have their evening plans interrupted, but Linus promises that it’s worth it. He explains that Broden was allergic to the latex that Miss Perfect was made of and the reaction killed him. Camille pulls up Broden’s order form and finds out that he returned the first doll because she wasn’t perfect enough and that he specified that he was allergic to the latex. Kirsten looks at the previous model and realizes that it bears a resemblance to Julie. Fisher, Cameron and Kirsten go back to the doll company and present their theory that one of Sam’s employees was responsible for the murder. He denies that theory and Kirsten asks to see the previous model. He won’t let them see it, but Cameron comments that Julie was the model for the doll. Cameron gets him to confess that he murdered Broden and Sam puts a syringe to his neck. Fisher points a gun at him and Sam admits that he was furious when Broden returned the model because it wasn’t perfect enough. Fisher shoots Sam and Cameron slaps him with a fake arm.
As the cops apprehend Sam, Fisher and Cameron laugh about the incident. Kirsten comments that the perfect couple wasn’t perfect and Fisher tells them that there is no perfect couple. Fisher explains that every couple has their issues that they’re working out. After the case is over, Fisher gets intimate with Stephanie Fisher (Erin Cahill), Linus kisses Ivy and Camille leads Amanda to bed. Kirsten reminds Cameron that she still can’t go home and they make up before going home to watch movies together. Both are frustrated by being unable to do more, but agree that being able to stitch and saving Kirsten’s mother is more important.
