Suzie Pollard – Making Waves

Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?

A) I am actually in Canada now visiting my family. I haven’t seen them in a long time so I am spending a lot of time now with my family and friends.

Q) Tell us about the premise of your show “Beyond the Break” and about your character Dawn Preston.

A) It’s about four female surfers trying to become professionals in a male dominated sport. It’s a lot of drama and a lot of surfing. My character is kind of the pretty, rich, pampered and spoiled girl, but there is a big turn in the middle of the season. I think that people will really enjoy seeing a different side of Dawn. They won’t like her in the beginning because she kind of gets in trouble, but she still tends to win all of the competitions.

Q) What made you want to be a part of the show?

A) I’ve always wanted to be a part of something that had to do with the growth of women, in general. People will look at women differently, in a strong way, from this show. I think it’s a good thing with the show. We’re just strong girls trying to become surfers so there is kind of a hard core aspect to it.

Q) How did you prepare for your role as a surfer?

A) We all got books on surfing and read up on it. We learned the terminology and about the locals. I just watched a lot of documentaries and movies.

Q) Does the cast have as much chemistry off the set as they do on?

A) We’re actually very lucky! Not only the cast, but the crew as well, all got along. We’re all easy going and fun so it was a great experience!

Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming the show?

A) I would probably say my most memorable moment was when we did the water unit, when we were filming all of the surfing. I had some scares so it was definitely memorable.

Q) Why should viewers take the time to tune in?

A) I think it is because it is something different and fun, but also edgy. It’s kind of a little bit of everything, but I think that girls will really be able to relate to it.

Q) What was your transition like from Oshawa, Canada to Los Angeles, California?

A) It was a big transition! I am from a small town so when I arrived in LA, it was a pretty big scare! I was pretty scared, but I met some people and learned how to get around LA. I learned how everything worked and I met a really good group of people to get me through everything.

Q) What do you do in your spare time?

A) I like to hang out with my family and friends. I like to take dance classes when ever I can. I like to work out, as well. Plus, we have a cottage in Canada so it’s nice to come up in the summer time and have fun.

Q) What is your latest obsession? A band? A sport? A movie?

A) I would probably say pilates. I like it a lot and you get good results from it!
