Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) It’s a retro new wave sound with modern instrumentation.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) The Smiths, The Killers, Depeche Mode

Q) What made you want to tackle a cover of the New Order song “Temptation?”

A) I think it’s a song that’s often overlooked.  I’ve always loved that it’s very self-reflective but really melodic at the same time.

Q) How did you craft the song to make it your own?

A) I was curious about what an older song might sound like in a more modern context and I’m hoping this captures the spirit of the original work while bringing something new and different.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) There’s a real feeling of vulnerability to it that is very relatable.  I also think it’s about finding oneself amidst chaos and it seems a lot of people can relate to that right now.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video is heartfelt and a bit emotional.  I thought the colors and the drama played into what the song is trying to convey.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I usually start with a theme.  I like to find things that are affecting me personally in the moment and extract some sort of meaning out of it. I start playing with music to make sure it fits the theme, and then I work on melodies and themes.  Lastly, I make sure the instruments and arrangements all work together so that the song feels like the theme and mood I originally intended.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) A lot.  My producer and I discuss everything meticulously and adjust all the way through the production.

Q) Your upcoming debut LP Lovesick is due this year. What are some themes you’ll be exploring on it?

A) Lovesick is a chronology of my life with each song representing a different relationship.  There are songs about the complexities of a relationship, love, elation and some about things falling apart.

Q) Are there any plans to do a tour to accompany the new LP?

A) I hope to soon.  Possibly this fall.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) The Troubador in Los Angeles has an amazing history and sonics that make it the ideal place to play.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Johnny Marr of The Smiths fame, Robert Smith of The Cure, or Bernard Sumner of New Order, or Bob Mould.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’ve been listening to a lot of old Bob Mould stuff.  I think his first solo album Workbook is incredible. He explores music and life in a way that’s unique, intelligent, insightful with just a bit of anguish.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s a direct line to people who like your music.  It’s a great way to create other art that goes with your music or just art you like in general.  I’m a big fan of highlighting other artists- not just musicians, but visual artists and video artists.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I have four albums recorded now that will be released single by single for the next couple years.  I hope it will be interesting to see the different sounds, themes, and lyrics evolve over time.
