The Big Bang Theory – The Tam Turbulence

The episode opens with  Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) at their place. He is improving the wedding photos by adding pictures of people who didn’t make it, like the Wright Brothers. She jokes that she hopes she is still in them and he says of course she is.

 

She hears his email beep and sees that he got an email from someone named Tam. He wants to know what he wants and it turns out he is going to be in town and wants to see Sheldon. Sheldon explains that they used to be best friends growing up. Amy wants to know why he never mentioned him. He says he had and repeats his name to drive the point home.

 

The gang is having dinner at Leonard and Penny’s house. Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) asks about  Raj (Kunal Nayyar) getting married and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) jokes that this girl got him pregnant. Raj then talks about getting Anu a ring and asks their opinions. Bernadette doesn’t know since she doesn’t know Anu and asks if she has fingers. Raj says ten of them and possibly ten toes, he will know when he sees her in sandals.

 

Amy comes in and asks about the mysterious Tam. Leonard (Johnny Galecki) asks if that is the imaginary talking koala. Amy says the two of them had a falling out but Sheldon invoked the marriage contract clause section three, section five, beeswax, none of your. Howard (Simon Helberg) wants to know how someone got Sheldon to stop talking to him for twenty years and Leonard wants to know if it will work again.

 

Bernadette and Penny are at work. They talk about Anu and how they are worried since they know nothing about her. They try getting a background check done on her, but Bernadette’s dad refused to do it.

 

The guys are still wondering what happened to Tam, so they decide to call Sheldon’s brother George/ (Jerry O’Connell). He remembers Tam, but has no idea what happened with them. He actually thought he talked to him at the wedding. He tells them to check his list of enemies for clues, which leads to the guys checking it. They look on the list and all it says is he knows what he did. They also discover Jim Henson is on the list for bringing Big Bird on TV and in his nightmares.

 

Anu (Rati Gupta) works at a hotel, so Bernadette and Penny go to visit her. She gets them reservations for dinner at an exclusive restaurant. Bernadette wonders if she can get them into Bavel, then why is Raj the best husband she can get?

 

The guys finally find Tam (Robert Wu) at the college tour. Tam is there to check out the school with his son and is confused and disappointed that Sheldon never got back to him. They try to get Tam to tell them about the fight, but he is really confused because he thought they just drifted apart when Sheldon moved to California. Sheldon sees them and confronts Tam for staying in Texas. He stalks off and Howard wonders how they were friends and were there any other kids in Texas. Leonard goes into Sheldon’s office to ask him what happened. He doesn’t think Tam did anything wrong and the two get into an argument. It ends with Sheldon googling a snarky comeback.

 

The girls are out to dinner and Anu says she tried meeting men the normal way and even had a relationship that was quite serious. Once it didn’t work out, she decided to go the arranged marriage route. The ladies say they married for love and it is fine.

 

Sheldon comes home and tells Amy about his fight with Leonard and says she is his new best friend. He is upset that Leonard took Tam’s side. He then says that the reason why he is mad at Tam is because he stayed in Texas with his girlfriend rather than going to California with him. Amy tells him his life turned out great once he made friends, which leads to several moments with Tam being in Leonard’s role.

 

The girls continue to enjoy dinner and wine. Anu admits she once had to buy bubbles for Britney Spears, which leads to them telling her Raj is a huge fan and spilling the beans on his weird habits, such as bathing with his dog….but he is great!

 

Tam and Sheldon finally talk and Sheldon admits he has forgiven him. Tam explains that he had to stay and Sheldon had to go so he can accomplish great things. Sheldon wishes he could say the same thing for Tam, who says that he is happy being a husband and dad.  The next day the guys meet Tam, who is leaving to go home. Sheldon makes Leonard drive Tam to the airport but not before he says goodbye.

 

The show ends with Raj yelling at the girls for spilling his secrets to Anu and Bernadette thinking she is on LeBron James’s Instagram. They feel bad Raj is mad so they plan on damage control.
