Tia Clayton (Alexis Floyd) and Kat Edison (Aisha Dee) snuggle in bed, and Tia admits that she can’t work on the election because she can’t get out of bed. Kat jokes that she’s paying her, clarifying that she means as her campaign manager. Tia admits she’s right and gets out of bed. Kat looks at her phone and sees Adena El Amin’s (Nikohl Boosheri) text.

 

Kat shows Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens) and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) the text, admitting that that she and Adena texted a little after she returned Adena’s stuff. Jane calls it “tingering” or lingering via text. Kat questions why Adena is texting her now and Jane suggests she wants to see her. Kat tells them she’s thought a lot about seeing Adena again, admitting that she fell for Adena hard and fast.

 

Sutton suggests that Kat meet Adena, but Kat texts Adena telling her she can’t meet. Jane and Sutton are surprised, but Kat explains that she needs to get over her. Sutton asks to read the text and she and Jane make their own addition to the text as Kat tries to grab her phone back.

 

Jane and Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin) talk to Eden (Carolina Bartczak) about Dolan, but she is hesitant to break her non-disclosure agreement. Jane shows her the photos they have of her shoot and Jacqueline reminds her that Dolan forced her to stay in freezing ocean water for so long that she was hospitalized. Eden questions who would believe her over Dolan, but agrees when Jane suggests they can get other models to come forward with her.

 

Julian Grant (Aaron Serotsky) tells the seminar that some people are doing better than others before awarding a winner of the class. Sutton compliments Daphne (Katelyn Wells) on her blouse and Daphne compliments her blouse. Sutton comments that Grant didn’t like it, but Daphne replies that Grant was blinded by the upscale fabric and sewing machine used to make it.

 

Sutton tells Richard Hunter (Sam Page) that a lot of other people in the seminar seem to have more free time and better sewing machines than her. She declares that she likes being the underfunded underdog and refuses Richard’s offer to pay for her dinner. Tia shows Kat a negative attack ad that Reynolds made about her implying that she’s too emotional for city council. Kat admits it’s weird, but Tia assures her that she shouldn’t worry and promises they’ll respond in their own way.

 

Jane tells Alex (Matt Ward) that Jacqueline is coming over to discuss their story and he tells her he’ll be reading Ryan’s book when he’s out. She asks him what he thinks and Alex comments that Ryan is an evocative writer and suggests that the main character’s hookups are wild.

 

Jane tells a group of models that the case against Dolan will be stronger if they all come forward with their stories together. Monica (Milcania Diaz-Rojas) is worried that Dolan will sue them for breaking their NDAs, but Jane is doubts it will happen.

 

The models are worried about their images being ruined with a smear campaign, but Jane suggests they can avoid that by getting their story out first. Jacqueline tells them that they will do a photoshoot, but the models question what photographer would be willing to do it. She promises they’ll take care of them and the models agree to participate.

 

Jacqueline asks to speak to Oliver Grayson (Stephen Conrad Moore) in her office. Jane tells Sutton they’re moving forward with the story and is confident that the story will put Jacqueline back on top. Oliver admits it’ll be difficult to find a photographer, as the community is a tight-knit group. Jacqueline suggests they find someone outside the community and Oliver suggests Adena. Jacqueline thinks Adena is a good option and Jane admits that Adena would be perfect despite her hesitation.

 

In the fashion closet, Jane tells Kat about their plans to hire Adena, and Kat assures her it’s okay, declaring that she needs to move on. Kat tells them that Tia hired a reporter to do a piece on her highlighting her good qualities while avoiding stooping to a negative ad campaign. Sutton tells her she approves, and Kat insists that she’s okay with Jane using Adena. Richard shows Sutton a printout picture of a sewing machine, telling her he wants to buy it for her. Sutton is excited by the machine but refuses to let Richard buy it for her upon seeing the price.

 

Jane meets with Adena, who explains that she’s in town for three weeks. She comments that the photo shoot sounds important, and Jane admits she’s perfect for it. Jane tells her that Kat is okay with it and Adena asks how Kat is. Jane tells her Kat is great, telling her about Kat’s campaign and that she’s seeing someone. Adena tells Jane that she wants Kat to be happy and they discuss the details of the shoot.

 

Kat talks to Cole (Stefan Oliver Keyes) about her job and how it makes her a good candidate as they are filmed walking through Scarlet’s office. As they finish, Tia thanks him for his time and Kat comments that the segment is a good idea. Jane and Adena walk into the office and Kat says hello to Adena before they awkwardly embrace.

 

Kat introduces Tia, and Tia excuses herself from the conversation soon after. Adena tells her that her campaign is impressive and expresses confidence that she would do a great job. As Jane and Adena walk away, Kat asks about her gallery opening and Adena invites her.

 

In the fashion closet, Kat breaks down and Jane apologizes, telling her she thought she was out of the office. Kat admits that she didn’t think seeing Adena would hurt this much, explaining that she thought she was over her. Jane and Sutton tell her it’ll take time to get over her first love, but Kat questions if Adena is her Richard. Jane and Sutton console Kat, assuring her things will be okay.

 

Sutton stares at the sewing machine Richard bought, and reminds him she told him not to buy it for her. He shows her a contract he drew up for their distribution of their finances. Sutton tells him she can’t accept the machine and Richard admits that he doesn’t understand. She asks him why he’s so desperate to buy it for her and he doesn’t understand why she doesn’t want help. He tells her that it feels like she’s trying to keep him at bay by not letting him do anything for her.

 

Tia admits that the meeting with Adena was awkward, telling Kat that their night together was a big deal for her. Kat assures her it was for her too and Tia asks why she didn’t tell her Adena was back in town. Kat tells her they’re great and that she didn’t want to make it a thing. She admits she’s never had an ex before, assuring Tia that she and Adena are done.

 

Alex reads Jane a passage from Ryan’s book where the character criticizes the idea of love, but Jane points out that it’s fiction. Jane answers the door and Sutton tells her she’s there to stitch and bitch. As she sews her outfit by hand, Sutton rants about Richard’s insistence to buy things for her and Alex sarcastically comments that Richard is an asshole.

 

Alex reminds Sutton that she and Richard live together and questions why Richard can’t buy something for her. Sutton tells him it makes her feel bought and paid for, and he questions if the issue is on her. He makes a comment about being both Jeff and Alex and Jane calls him “Jefflix.” Alex tells her it’s too soon, and Jane asks if he would let a woman that he was dating pay for everything. Alex admits he would if it made her happy and tells Sutton it’s based on what works best for her and Richard.

 

Adena directs the photoshoot, and Jacqueline is confident they made the right choice. Jane talks to Ingrid (Lyla Porter-Follows) and tells Jacqueline that Dolan’s lawyers are threatening to sue Ingrid based on the recording released in the hack. Jacqueline addresses the models, telling them about her own struggle about whether to come forward about the abuse she suffered. She tells them that keeping the secret forced her to surrender her power to help other women. Jacqueline encourages them not to let Dolan take their power from them.

 

Adena comments that Jacqueline’s speech was amazing, adding that having a Jacqueline in her life could have prevented her from making some big mistakes. Adena refuses to elaborate and throws herself into the photoshoot. After the shoot, Jane thanks Adena and Adena comments that it’s stories like this that change the world.

 

Jane asks what she meant about mistakes and Adena replies that she meant a lot of things. Jane asks if part of it was about Kat and Adena says yes. Jane tells her Kat was hurt and confused after what happened in Paris. Adena confesses that she was struggling at the time and that she made a mistake by blaming Kat. She admits it doesn’t matter now, as Kat is happy and seeing someone.

 

As Sutton struggles with her old sewing machine, Jane tells her about her conversation with Adena and that she doesn’t think Adena is over Kat. They debate whether they should tell Kat, but Jane is hesitant to ruin Kat’s relationship with Tia. Sutton questions if Adena is Kat’s Richard and suggests that she would want to know.

 

Jacqueline compliments Adena on the photoshoot as they look over the photos. Jacqueline pulls Jane aside, telling her they need to finish the story so they can confront Dolan with it so she can give a statement. Jane and Sutton see Kat and Adena share a look across the office, and realize they have to tell Kat. They bring Kat into the fashion closet and tell her what Adena told Jane.

 

Grant critiques the outfits in the seminar and awards Sutton the prize for the week. He tells them that he’s going to have a pre-show at his next fashion show for which they will each design pieces. Daphne congratulates Sutton and takes a call from her boyfriend. Daphne tells Sutton that her boyfriend took care of the baby and her while she worked, and Daphne tells him she couldn’t have done it without him.

 

Jane tries to text Ryan, but he tells her he’ll call her later. She picks up Ryan’s book and Alex asks if she’s okay. Jane tells him she is, and he tells her about Madame Bovary and how the author was able to tell a portray a perspective different than his own. Alex admits that is probably what Ryan did, admitting he was jealous. Jane tells him he’s a good writer and admits that it’s been hard for her and Ryan to connect since he left.

 

As they prepare for the election, Kat tells Tia she likes how easy their relationship is and Tia mistakes her unease for election jitters. Sutton tells Richard she won the runway prize, and he tells her she proved she could do it all by herself. She questions if there’s a better way, telling him she wants this to work for both of them.

 

Sutton tells him that she watched her mother depend on her father and that the idea of depending on him is hard for her. Richard tells her he depends on her too and she asks if the sewing machine is still there. He tells her he hasn’t returned it, and she tells him not to before thanking him for it.

 

Kat meets Adena and they sit on a bench together. Adena tells her she’s glad she called, and Kat tells her she’s been seeing someone. Kat tells her she’s happy, and Adena tells her she’s happy that she’s happy. Kat admits she doesn’t understand what happened to them and Adena tells her she understands. Adena asks if she wants to go for a walk and Kat agrees.
