The Boys – We Gotta Go Now
By: Ariba Bhuvad
Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) is filming a scene for Dawn of the Seven and she tells a character in the movie that the woman is a hero because she isn’t afraid to live her life and be who she is. It’s something Maeve has struggled with, but she’s going to put it all out there. Maeve reveals she is gay and kisses the woman just as Adam (P.J. Byrne) the director calls cut and says the scene was brilliant.
Homelander (Antony Starr) is watching Maeve’s scene on the screen and jokingly mentions a “Joss rewrite.” Maeve asks him when he is going to stop torturing her and if it’s a matter of never seeing Elena (Nicola Correia-Damude) again she can stop. But Homelander says she is in love and that Elena is good for her. He wouldn’t want her to throw it away.
Ashley (Colby Minifie) shows up to talk to Homelander because apparently a video of him killing someone has gone viral. She’s upset that he did not clear it with her before going there and now the video is causing a lot of blowback–he’s down 9.5 points. People have been protesting against him at the Tower, but he’s pissed that they don’t see that he did this for him. Ashley informs him that PR is taking care of the situation, but he intends on taking matters into his own hands. He’s not very pleased with the fact that Ashley mentions Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) and the legal department would rather he only say “no comment” until they come up with a strategy. Just to spite him Stormfront (Aya Cash) asks him if he’s had a bad day, but he storms off saying he doesn’t need her help.
Butcher (Karl Urban) is at a bar drinking when he starts beating up a random guy out of anger. He ends up getting kicked out of the bar and heads to the grocery store when he gets a call from Hughie (Jack Quaid), who tells him about the discovery they made regarding Stormfront being Liberty. Butcher is on and off listening as Hughie mentions Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is still looking into things. What Hughie doesn’t know is that Butcher isn’t actually with Becca (Shantel VanSanten) and is just dealing with the fact she wouldn’t leave with him. He tells Hughie that he is going off the grid into early retirement and calls Hughie his canary before hanging up on him and destroying the phone and SIM card.
Worried about Butcher, Hughie talks to Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso) about the weird conversation he had with him. Mother’s Milk is in the middle of watching “Outlander” and doesn’t care much about what Hughie says until he mentions the canary comment. This gets his attention and he asks Hughie to tell him everything Butcher said.
Before cutting to another scene of Dawn of the Seven” filming, Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) is seen walking somewhere as Frenchie (Tomer Capon) follows closely behind. This time around the scene being filmed is one in the midst of chaos as a character named Agent Pearson (Greg Gunberg) assesses the damage around them. To take care of things Starlight, Stormfront and Maeve come together for an epic female superhero moment. Adam calls cut on the scene as they readjust their positions and Stormfront aggressively confronts Starlight about why she’s been staring at her all day. Starlight just says that she thinks Stormfront is a really good actress, so she’s intrigued by her performance.
In a news report it’s announced that The Deep (Chace Crawford) got married to Cassandra (Katy Breier). The report is playing on Judy’s (Barbara Gordon) television, who turns out to be Butcher’s aunt. He shows up at her house in light of everything that is going on and she tells him about his parents and how they’re flying over. His dad is apparently very sick from the cancer in his body, but Butcher doesn’t seem to care much about anything Judy is saying. He is; however, happy to see his dog, Terror, who he thought would be by his and Becca’s side as they grew old together.
A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) talks to Adam about a big scene that is coming up for him because he’s not happy with the dialogue that’s been written for him. It doesn’t seem like anything he would actually say and he feels they should leave it open-ended. Adam isn’t in agreement with A-Train’s suggestions and if he refuses to do it it’s something that is above his pay grade and he’ll need to take the matter up with Ashley.
The Deep and Cassandra are doing an interview with Katie Couric (herself) as she asks him about his issues from the past and how Cassandra feels about it. Whether it’s scripted or they truly feel that way, the married couple say they’ve worked through all that and are very happy together.
While following Kimiko, Frenchie walks into a bar where she has killed a room full of Russian men. As it turns out, she’s working with the Albanians through Cherie (Jordana Lajoie) and Frenchie is extremely frustrated with the path she has chosen to take. Kimiko gets in a fight with him, but he retaliates back and says that he can’t understand her because she won’t teach him to communicate with her.
When Butcher comes home he finds Hughie and Mother’s Milk in Judy’s house. They are there to help him and also get his help with the Stormfront/Liberty situation. He’s not very happy to see them there and walks out and gets into his car. But from a distance he spots Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) trying to hide on a rooftop in the distance. Mother’s Milk assures him that it wasn’t because of them that he’s there and Butcher reveals that he probably tracked him from Becca’s house. He finally tells Hughie and Mother’s Milk that Becca didn’t want out as Hughie suggests they make a run for it since Black Noir is outside. Unfortunately, Black Noir moves faster than a car so that idea isn’t exactly going to work. Mother’s Milk says that if Black Noir wants to kill them he’ll have to do it in front of an audience. They report a fake gas leak so the fire department shows up and throws Black Noir off.
On set Starlight is surprised to find her mom, Donna (Ann Cusack), talking to Stormfront. She showed up because Starlight has been ignoring all her texts and she wants to talk about everything that’s happened since the Compound V reveal. Stormfront tries to intervene by giving Starlight advice about forgiving her mother, but Starlight simply won’t have it.
Maeve and Elena are being pitched the arc for both their characters and the plan is to give them a clear-cut gender role relationship. Maeve will be the more feminine one and Elena will take on the role of the male in the relationship. Elena storms off because she wants nothing to do with any of this and doesn’t want a public relationship. But Maeve emotionally appeals to her because if Elena tries to leave Homelander will find her and kill her. She asks for Elena to trust her and just deal with everything going on with the movie for the time being.
The Deep does a commercial with Alastair Adana (Goran Visnjic) for the Church of the Collective appealing to people to join their cause. Stormfront is watching the commercial with A-Train and reveals that she used to be a part of the collective once upon a time. She then proceeds to agitate him as she asks him about being retired from The Seven. Ashley shows up to talk to A-Train about his issues with the scene and says that he has two options–either breach the morality clause in his contract or leave the Seven with dignity.
At the Tower protests Congresswoman Neuman (Claudia Doumit) continues to speak out against Vought, but Homelander interrupts her speech when he flies in. She’s a bit rattled by his presence as he fights with the protestors and tries to explain his actions for why he killed the terrorist. They don’t seem too convinced by what he has to say, and for a brief moment, Homelander imagines roasting all of them to death but just flies away.
After the fire department leaves Butcher, Judy, Hughie and Mother’s Milk hide out in the taffy room, a room in the basement where they can be safe from Black Noir. When they get down there they learn that Judy is a dealer which is very evident from all the needles and medical equipment around the room.
Homelander watches himself on the news at the protest and reacts with laughter and anger and then goes to talk to Stormfront. She’s busy looking at the memes of him and her, for whom she has a person apparently to handle all of that.
While they’re hiding out from Black Noir, Judy tells Hughie about Butcher’s deceased brother, Lenny, and how Hughie reminds her of him. Butcher was extremely protective of him and it is perhaps why he’s a certain way with Hughie. Black Noir shows up in the house as he tries to gas them out of the taffy room. Butcher goes to confront Black Noir and gets knocked unconscious in the process. Mother’s Milk and Hughie come out as well, and while Mother’s Milk is injured, Black Noir attempts to take Hughie’s life. However, Butcher comes to and threatens Black Noir with some information that he’s privy to. He says he has pictures of Becca and Homelander’s son and if that news got out it wouldn’t be good for Vought because it would prove Homelander is a rapist. Black Noir calls Edgar regarding this and Edgar says as long as Butcher doesn’t release those photos he won’t be in danger of being killed.
Maeve pays The Deep a visit at Te Collective and says she will offer her help to rehabilitate his image. If he wants to even attempt to get into the Seven, he’ll need her help.
Starlight sneaks into Stormfront’s trailer while she’s not around to look around and see what she can find on her laptop, which is filled with emails regarding Sage Grove. She isn’t able to do much digging before Stormfront walks in and catches her. Starlight addresses Stormfront about her getting involved with her mother and says that her mother has lied about way more than Compound V. She doesn’t want Stormfront brokering peace between them. Starlight is caught off-guard with Stormfront’s revelation that she knows about how Starlight was behind the information leak. Starlight fires back with the information that she knows Stormfront is Liberty, but their conversation comes to a stop when Homelander walks into the trailer.
Homelander is in good spirits as he tells her that he is up five points and people are calling him patriotic and unwavering. He certainly owes her for her help and she asks how how he will repay her. The two proceed to have wild sex as he burns her chest up on her request and then have sex while flying in the air.
