The Creep Tapes – Brandt

As Kyle (Mark Duplass) walks around his hotel room, he is filming…happy and singing while he sets up for his next victim: Brandt (Scott Pitts). Taking the time, he carefully hides an ax under the bed and in the bathtub….all with a carefree attitude. This time, it is not the victim who starts the filming but rather the killer himself.
But before Brandt arrives, Kyle decides to film himself and talk about codependency. However, he continues to be interrupted by a rustling sound that he hears in the room. Looking around, Kyle finds himself looking over at a red duffle and goes to open it. Inside, he pulls out a wolf mask that he has used in his prior killings. Even though it is only a mask, Kyle tries to explain to how he does not need the mask. In a fit of anger, Kyle decides to get rid of the mask by opening the door to his room and throwing it off the balcony.
With the mask out of the picture, Kyle starts telling the camera about Brandt and all his quirks. He is eager to meet him and continues to talk until he hears a knock at the door. Thinking it is Brandt, Kyle goes to open the door and finds a complete stranger (Tai Leclaire) on the other side of it. While Kyle would like to invite the stranger in and make him part of his night, the man immediately realizes he has the wrong room and walks away. Closing the door and facing his camera, it is clear that Kyle feels this was a missed opportunity.
And as the night continues on, Kyle becomes even more unhinged when Brandt has yet to show up….even calling him and leaving a couple lengthy messages. At the end of the second message, Kyle hears another knock at the door and goes to investigate. Seeing nobody on the other side, he walks out onto the landing and begins to investigate. When it is quiet and Kyle decides to head back to his room, he encounters his wolf mask….which is surprisingly attached to a body.
Back in the room, Kyle decides it is time to face the wolf once and for all. He calls their relationship toxic and would like nothing more than for both of them to be adults in this conversation. However, the wolf is a little less complicit and decides to attack Kyle before bolting out of the main area of the room. Unsure of what to do, Kyle decides to head into the bathroom and grab the rope that he placed there…hoping to get the wolf under control. But looking around the room, Kyle cannot seem to locate the wolf. Ultimately, the wolf decides to cut the power to the room and leaves Kyle in complete darkness.
Putting the night vision on on his camera, Kyle continues his search in the dark for the wolf. It isn’t until he comes up to a cabinet that he hears the wolf behind the doors…asking to be let out. The wolf then explains to Kyle how they are brothers. Still eager to control the wolf, Kyle goes to open the door. While Kyle would like a more peaceful end, the wolf decides to knock him out. The camera then cuts to Kyle waking up in the shower, seemingly tied up and helpless to the wolf. Yet because of Kyle’s ability to manipulate and control his surroundings, he sees that the wolf wants to be in charge tonight….and Kyle is into that idea as he finally hears the knock he has been waiting for: Brandt at the door.
Brandt apologizes for his tardiness, but Kyle is excited that he has arrived. Kyle tells Brandt that he needs to wait for his cue to open the door, and if they time it right it will be the “perfect shot.” Brandt follows the instructions and opens the door when told….only to find Kyle in a robe and wolf mask launching the ax right at his head and killing him instantly.
