Interviews
The Dizzy Kids – 21
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) We have that sort of guitar driven indie rock pop sound, 50’s chords and 60’s beats, drums, guitar, bass and a vocal.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) We love The Beatles, of course, along with a heap of other styles. The Killers and The Strokes to mention a few!
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Criminal.” What kind of fan reaction have you been receiving to the single?
A) “Criminal” is a song about the heart strings being stolen and torn by another!! The feeling that you know the situation is wrong, but you can’t let it go!! The video was shot in an old jail and it’s us in the prison playing the song! Everyone seems to love the video!
Q) Where were you when you first heard it playing on the radio?
A) We were actually doing an interview on the local radio station talking about the release.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) Kid and I write the songs. Some we have written together, but others are pieces of music I had or lyrics Kid had and we put them together. A few songs on the album were reworked from older material we had from years back.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) So far, we have produced everything ourselves. Some of the songs could’ve turned out better with an engineer or a producer in the chair, but at this stage we have the sound and the ideas in our heads and on a budget it’s hard to find someone to work with on our level and sharing the same ideas and sounds. We look forward to working with a named producer on the next album.
Q) What can fans expect from a live The Dizzy Kids performance?
A) The live show is full of energy! The songs live have a bit more energy and extra parts to get the audience involved and rocking with us!
Q) What songs off your debut album 21 are you looking forward to performing live?
A) We love to play C.O.P!! Everyone loves that one! It goes off! We love to finish the set with the bopping she loves me she loves me not track!
Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your album as a whole?
A) Hopefully they hear good songs that paint a picture of who The Dizzy Kids are and that they relate to the songs in their own lives.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) We love the dogs bar and the vineyard in Melbourne! Both are smaller venues but we always sell ‘em out and have a wicked gig.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) We’ll it just connects us to the rest of the world hey! Being from small Melbourne, Australia and haven’t toured the world as yet it just gives fans overseas an opportunity to follow us and get to know who we are!
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) We love you! Thank you!! Bigger and better things are coming and we will see you all at a show soon!!
