Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) We are a rock band, but we are influenced by modern pop and incorporate synth alongside classic keys, guitar and a mostly live drum sound.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We know it sounds irritating, but we really do listen to everything. As kids we were trained classically, by mostly amazing engaging teachers, but we have always been open to musical suggestions from everyone. I suppose if we needed to narrow it down, we are most influenced by modern bands that in our opinion stand in comparison to the groundbreaking greats of the 60s and 70s. So, people like Muse, Radiohead, Kanye West, Arctic Monkeys, etc.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Jocelyn.”

A) Erm it’s about sleeping with an older woman. We don’t really want to say much more than that!

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) We think it’s interesting that in this day and age, where almost anything goes, it still feels a bit taboo seeing someone with an age gap. The subject of the song got a few people’s backs up, which seems strange to us. But I think most people saw it for what it is, a bit of a young male fantasy (and possibly an older female fantasy!)

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Honestly, I hope that it shows the fun and experience that one of us may or may not have had!

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It depends. Occasionally, we start with a chorus lyric, but usually someone shares a riff on the keys, guitar or bass and we build the song around that, and then argue over lyrics until we have something that we can all agree on. Ultimately, though, Charlie has to be able to sing the words without cringing.

Q) Shadow Hands lent a hand with the production on this song, but how much of a say does the group have in the production of your music?

A) I think ultimately the band has the final say, but one of the joys of working with Shadow Hands was that we had a shared vision. They are so collaborative and encouraging. They were also involved from the start in the writing process of “Jocelyn” and we would be a bit stupid not to respect their experience.

Q) Still Too Young is your upcoming EP. What are some themes you’ll be exploring on it?

A) We are mostly kids in the band, so we stick to stuff that is relatable to us and draw from our own experiences. We know there is so much awful shit going on in the world, but really, I think in the western world young people still feel that their own disappointments and heart break are more immediate. We shouldn’t but we do.

Q) Are you able to tease a favorite song(s) that you’re looking forward to fans getting to hear?

A) The last song on the EP is called “Another Liar” and is great to play live as it has a vocal hook that the crowd often picks up on. As artists we think one of the most exciting things, whether you are in a bar or an arena, is people singing your words back to you.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Weirdly, I actually think it would be Olivia Rodrigo. She’s not really who we would normally listen to, but she does what she does so well that I think we could learn a lot from her and her team. Although we wouldn’t say no if Led Zeppelin reformed and gave us a call.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Because there are five of us in the band, we listen to a lot of different stuff, but when we have to all listen to the same stuff in the car. We often listen to Paulo Nutini. He has such a great voice and band, and he has such a wide breadth of songs to fit everyone’s mood.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thanks so much for your support. We hope you have as much fun listening to our music and watching us at gigs as we do writing and performing at them.
