Q) Congratulations on your debut album State of Mind! I read it took two years to produce. Why was it important to you as a band to take the time to figure out exactly how you wanted it to sound?

A) The biggest reason why it took two years wasn’t necessarily figuring out exactly how we wanted it to sound. It was more related to the external factors of how bands operate at play. In that two-year period, the band underwent a major lineup change (hence why I’m in here talking to you now) and because of that the entire dynamic of the band shifted. So, sonically, I’d say the album is an interesting mix of where The Faim was in the past but also a little hint as to where The Faim is going in the future.

Q) Your new single “Tongue Tied” is an explosive way to open the album. What can people expect from the album as a whole?

A) We’re all super stoked with that song. I think the biggest thing that fans can expect from the album is diversity. There’s a lot going on and no two tracks sound the same. But I’d say the best way to know for sure is just to listen to it. It’s out everywhere and it will only take you about thirty minutes to listen to it if you’re interested.

Q) Were there any particular inspiration(s) behind any of the songs on the album?

A) Yes – for example, we took the name “Amelie” from the French play and “Humans” is about how interconnected we all are in this world.

Q) How much of a hand did the band have in the production of State of Mind?

A) It was a different case for every song. The four of us wrote “Buying Time” and “State Of Mind,” so obviously we had a lot more input into those songs. The rest of the album tracks had other people included in vary degrees, which obviously changed the dynamic a little bit.

Q) What is your song writing process like? Do you all write together or does that side of things fall to one person in particular?

A) All of us do it together. Sometimes it starts with a riff, sometimes a drum beat, sometimes we involve other people outside the four of us. Honestly, every song on the album has a different story about how it was written – no two were done under the same conditions.

Q) Seeing as I’m English, I’m intrigued to know what it’s like playing festivals such as Download and Reading/Leeds? Does anything compare?

A) For me, personally, nothing compares to Reading & Leeds. It’s such an iconic festival and it was such a privilege to play it alongside so many other amazing bands. The atmosphere is electric, for all of us it was an experience that we won’t be forgetting anytime soon!

Q) You’ve just embarked on a massive tour across America and Europe. How do you prepare for something like that?

A) Honestly, nothing too crazy. Just some rehearsals, figuring out setlists, etc. I’ll spend extra time going over tricky parts and songs without the guys just to make sure I’m 100% without a doubt in my mind ready for tour.

Another part of our preparation is packing our tiny suitcases. We get very limited luggage allowance so we have to be super meticulous with what we pack, as what we pack then and there will be our only possessions for the next three months.

Q) What can fans expect from a live The Faim performance?

A) Firstly, a lot of the older songs sound totally different live (in a good way). Secondly, they can expect a lot of energy from us.And also, as cliché as it sounds, they should expect the unexpected. Josh likes climbing things and running around in the crowd, so be ready for that, I guess.

Q) What songs off the new album are you looking forward to performing live?

A) We already play pretty much all the songs off the debut album. Our favorites so far are “Buying Time” and “State of Mind.” We’re all so stoked with how they translate live and it’s a definite highlight in the set for us when we play them.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?

A) Cheers! Hopefully, we’ll see you at a show soon!
