The Flash – A Girl Named Sue
By: Malasha Parker
Iris (Candice Patton) is still yelling for Barry through the mirror glass when Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor) asks her if she’s real. She’s so excited to see another person that she runs and hugs Iris. Iris realizes who she is and says she’s supposed to be dead. Eva tells her that she’s just trapped and now so is Iris.
Eva tells Iris that until now the place she’s in only had one inhabitant. It’s the same earth but another dimension – the mirror version of Central City. Iris introduces herself. It seems that everything is backwards in this world and according to Eva there are other realities that can’t be seen. Iris experiences a sharp pain in her head, apparently a side effect of this dimension.
Eva was in her office the night of the particle accelerator explosion and the blast threw her through the mirror. She’s been stuck ever since. Iris mentions what looks to be her on the other side of the mirror and Eva tells her that Iris is a duplicate Iris. Iris is determined to get out but Eva says there is no way. She tells Iris that she thought she was going to die alone, but at least now there are two of them.
Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) is documenting his lackluster search on Sue Dearbon (Natalie Dreyfuss). He has no status update, but he does know where she’s been. Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) suggests he gets some help and even offers her own assistance, but Ralph declines. Ralph gets an alert about Sue’s whereabouts and leaves to check on things.
Iris is working at home when Barry (Grant Gustin) comes down as he gets ready to leave. Barry asks if Iris is still working on the McCulloch case and she says yes. She has blueprints of the mirror gun and asks Barry if he could get it for her because she thinks it could help her learn about BlackHole. Barry doesn’t want to give it to her though because he doesn’t want it ending up in the wrong hands. Iris disagrees but she eventually says it’s okay and maybe she’ll find another angle. He hesitantly goes to kiss her goodbye and she turns her head for a cheek kiss as he does.
Ralph is at the building where he tracked Sue to having been. A door opens and a woman yells to get down as smoke comes towards him. Once the place is clearer he sees that it’s Sue Dearbon.
They’re back at Ralph’s office where he starts to ask a lot of questions. She says her ex has been after her for nine months because she knows too much. She says she fell in love with a murderer who is a major arms dealer named John Loring. She saw his client list and more and that’s why he’s after her. Sue throws Ralph’s phone out the window when he tries to contact her parents. She says she’s trying to expose him and get him sent to jail so that she can go home.
Eva’s repeating numbers over and over and Iris is still trying to figure a way out. Eva gets frustrated and starts yelling about how things began with the hope of getting out, but you constantly fail at getting out. 1,322 is the amount of times she’s attempted to get out. Iris tells her that she’s no longer alone and she comes up with an idea to use liquid nitrogen in order to get them out. Eva agrees that it could work.
Joe (Jesse L. Martin) catches Barry to ask him about a house fire case. Joe needs the case in order to have an extra look, so Barry decides he’ll take it.
Ralph and Sue are where the deal will take place. They argue about whether they’ll both go in or not. Ralph goes and starts getting some pictures of Loring (Silver Kim) when one of Loring’s men catches him. In the middle Sue comes and knocks the man out, saving Ralph from a face dive in water.
The two are at CC Jitters and Ralph keeps looking around. Sue tells him to calm down because they’re safe. Sue gets up to leave because she doesn’t want to partner with him any longer. He convinces her to stay. They plan a way to get into Loring’s office in order to get his ledger. Cecile sees them and walks up, quickly suggesting her services. She tells Ralph that when she read them she could barely tell the two apart. Ralph tells her to calm down because it’s not like they’re dating.
Eva and Iris are preparing the liquid nitrogen, but when they use it the window shatters! Eva gets angry, but Iris is still hopeful. Eva starts to tell iris how she saw her husband move on through the mirror.
Duplicate Iris is searching through the archives, but just as she’s about to get the mirror gun Nash (Tom Cavanagh) pops out in front of her. He startles her and he tells Iris he isn’t supposed to be down there, but she tells him she lost something. Nash tells Iris he’s down there to do inventory, but the imaginative Harrison Wells says that’s a lie as we see him standing behind her. Iris tells Nash that she lost Nora’s diary, but maybe she should leave the past in the past. She asks him not to mention to Barry that she was down there. He says he won’t and when she leaves we see that he has Harrison Wells’ diary in his hands.
Sue and Ralph make it to Loring’s office– getting shot at in the process. Ralph finds a key for a safety deposit box that could contain the ledger. The run out just before the goons run into the room. Ralph uses his elongated abilities to get them off the roof. Sue realizes he’s the Elongated Man.
He tells her how he got her abilities and she asks him what it’s like being a superhero. Sue thanks Ralph for everything he’s done. Sue suggests they break into the bank and get the box themselves. Ralph doesn’t want to go the criminal route, but he tells her he’s not going to let her do it alone. They just have to give over the box to CCPD as soon as they get it.
Barry tells Joe that the fires he’s been looking at started the same way Dr. Light torched The Citizen. Joe tells Barry that the same things happened at each of these crime scenes and they’re all associated with Carver. He thinks someone at CCPD is covering it up. Barry tells Joe how Iris was trying to look into this and Joe encourages Barry to let Iris help.
Iris tries to get Eva to see that she can still have a life on the other side of the mirror, but Eva says she’s glad it’s broken. She starts to rant about how things aren’t going to be alright when a piece of the mirror flies to her hand.
Ralph and Sue get into the safe disguised as Joe and a police guard. Sue tells him about how she didn’t like the life she was living before. They talk as they’re in the safe, but once Sue gets what’s inside she hits Ralph and locks him inside the cell. He tries to grab on the bars, but they shock him. Sue tells Ralph she barely knows Loring, but she knows where he keeps his ledger. Ralph deduces that there was never a ledger and that he was lured in. She used him. He tells Sue to keep his mouth shut about her being a thief and she won’t tell about her secret identity. When Sue closes the safe Loring and his men are waiting outside with guns. Ralph figures out a way to escape the cell. He wraps his stretched hand around him and Sue while the men shoot at them. They start hearing the men in pain and the shooting stops. When they look out Ultraviolet (Alexa Barajas) tells Sue she has something of hers. Ultraviolet calls Sue “old friend.” The two fight and Sue manages to get away with the diamond. Ultraviolet zaps herself away. The Flash gets the men and he apologizes to Ralph for not being able to stop Ultraviolet. Ralph says he wasn’t talking about her.
There’s no trace of Sue Dearbon again. Ralph blames himself, but Iris and Barry try to get him to stop. He leaves and Barry mentions Iris coming by CCPD and not stopping to talk to him. Barry flashes out and returns with the mirror gun. He tells her that her hands are the right hands and Black Hole is a lot more dangerous than he realized after seeing Joe’s pictures. He tells her, “While I don’t trust the world, I do trust you, with everything.” She thanks him and leaves with a smirk on her face.
Iris tells Eva that she can control the mirror. Eva thinks it’s crazy talk, but Iris asserts that she’s seen crazier. Eva starts to maneuver the pieces and eventually gets the mirror back in tact. The mirror morphs so that Iris can see Barry look at it in a curious way. She stares at him and he stares at her unknowingly until the image morphs again. Eva asks how she did it and Iris tells her she’ll figure it out.
We see Sue’s hideout as she takes the diamond and puts it under a light that shows the Black Hole symbol. We see the article clippings of Carver laying on her desk as she looks at the diamond and says, “Game on.”
