The Flash – Invincible
By: Stacy Miller
With only one episode remaining until the season finale and the upcoming big showdown between The Flash and Zoom. Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is certain that he will win in the episode “Invisible.” Nothing like a talk with a speed force manifestation of your mother to build your confidence!
Meanwhile, Zoom (Teddy Sears) was giving Central City a preview of what to expect. It was the “Meta-pocalypse” with hundreds of Meta Humans wreaking havoc upon the city. It seems to be more than Joe (Jesse L. Martin), the police and even The Flash can handle. Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) decides to help by turning Meta Human vigilante. This worries Joe, who asks Barry to talk with his son.
Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) is back from Earth 2, telling the team that Zoom let her go. She is fearful of Zoom’s plan to take over the world, but an overly confident Barry believes, “the universe is on our side.” Unfortunately, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) is vibing dead pigeons.
Surprisingly, a Meta Human with a powerful scream is destroying buildings in Central City. It looks like Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) a/k/a/ Black Canary has an evil doppelganger! She targets Mercury Labs and before the building crumbles, The Flash arrives just in time to save Dr. Christina McGee (Amanda Pays).
He takes her to Star Labs where she tells The Flash that she knows he is Barry Allen. Dr. McGee says something about her power of perception, but c’mon the mask he wears as The Flash is hardly a concealing disguise. She is surprised to see Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and gets a crash course on Earth 2 and Meta Humans. Dr. McGee tells Barry about the black box in the building wreckage that will reveal the Meta Human responsible. When The Flash arrives at the Mercury Labs wreckage, he comes face to face with Zoom. The evil speedster tells The Flash that even though they are alike in many ways, he won’t win because The Flash is so hung up on being good that it’s his weakness. Zoom speeds off to leave Barry to ponder his words.
Returning to Star Labs, the black box is played and the deadly building destroying Meta Human is revealed to be The Black Canary. But how can they be? Laurel Lance is not evil and besides, she’s dead. Barry gets his answer a little while later when he faces off against Laurel’s doppelganger, who calls herself The Black Siren. A fight ensues. Actually a screaming matching with only Black Siren unleashing her piercing cry. It looks like The Flash is going to be taken down by her when suddenly a car pulls up. It is Wally West to the rescue, saving The Flash this time. Barry talks with Wally about all the chances he’s been taking going up against Meta Humans, but realizes Wally is doing what he has to.
Joe is not happy when he learns Barry didn’t talk Wally out of being pursuing danger. Detective West can’t wait for the day Barry has children and they don’t listen to him! Iris (Candice Patton) and Barry take a break from talking about Meta Humans long enough to FINALLY discuss starting a relationship.
Cisco comes up with a plan to create an electronic pulse with a frequency that will attack the nervous system of anyone born on Earth 2. This will give The Flash time to capture all the Meta Humans while they are in a weakened state. Harrison Wells creates noise cancelling headphones that will protect he and Jesse (Violett Beane) from the pulse. Black Siren reminds Zoom how she is stronger than any of his other generals, but he basically belittles her by telling her to go “play with knocking buildings down.” When she goes off to do what Zoom ordered, Black Siren is surprised to see Reverb and Killer Frost (Cisco and Caitlin masquerading as their doppelgangers). They encourage her to join forces with them to take down Zoom. Playing along at first, Black Siren then tricks Cisco and Caitlin into revealing who they really are. Black Canary is about to finish them off when the pulse does its job, rendering her and other Earth 2 Meta Humans unconscious. Unfortunately, Zoom escapes through a breach. Interestingly, the noise cancelling headphones don’t work for Jesse. Wells sacrifices his own eardrums in order to give her his headphones. He soon passes out unconscious, but Joe assures Jesse that her dad will be okay. Later, Black Siren is in a sound proof Star Labs cell. Before the team can celebrate their victory, Zoom speeds in and kidnaps Henry (John Wesley Shipp). Barry races after them. Zoom takes Henry to the Allen house and taunts Barry that now he’ll get to watch a parent die like he did. Henry tells his son how proud he is of the man he’s become while Barry pleads with Zoom. Then, Zoom sticks his hand through Henry’s chest and kills him! At Star Labs, Cisco gets another dead pigeon vibe and what looks like the end of the world! Next week is the season finale. Will Barry avenge his father’s death and stop the end of the world?
