The Flash – License to Elongate
By: Malasha Parker
Nash Wells (Tom Cavanagh) stands in front of Barry (Grant Gustin), Iris (Candice Patton), Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) and Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) explaining to them that this sewer is where The Monitor is hiding. Iris wants to know how Wells can save Barry. There’s a portal that Barry tries to break through, but he gets forced back by the eternium forcefield. Wells needs an artifact that will illuminate the eternium so that he can dig around the rocks.
Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight) is fully recovered and out of the machine. He comes out in S.T.A.R. Labs, but no one is around. So, he decides to have a little celebration of his own and runs around the building checking out everything inside. He looks himself up on the internet and finds out that he’s believed to be dead right before Frost walks in on him.
Barry shows Joe (Jesse L. Martin) the official Elongated Man emblem that they will present to Ralph at the Central City press conference. Barry says that the city should know that Elongated Man will be their sole protector when The Flash is gone. They quickly hide it when Ralph comes into the room. Joe gives him a lead on the Dearborn case and Barry suggests he go with him to Midway so that he’ll make it back in time for the surprise conference.
They’re at the event watching people dressed for a gala enter the building. Ralph has a photo of Sue at an event so they’re there to get more information. They get out to go in and Ralph presents Barry with a suit. He tells Barry to lose The Flash ring.
Inside they split up so that they can get to the party’s host. Ralph goes to talk to a woman at the party. He makes up a story that she quickly sees straight through and tells him and Barry that they should leave before someone scary comes to find them. When she walks off, Ralph reveals that he snatched the VIP ticket that January slipped into her purse.
Wells is rummaging through Iris’ office when Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton) walks through the door. He says that he’s looking for a UV emitter and his scanner is telling him that it is there. While he’s spinning around she asks if he faked his own death and many more questions to understand how Harrison Wells is still alive. He isn’t that Harrison Wells and Nash tells her that he needs her to help him. She refuses at first, but he makes a deal with her to give her the “scoop of the century.” She asks for him to tell her more about the multiverse.
Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) tells Chester that she got all of his accounts and I.D. back for him. He thanks her, but she tries to get him to stay so that she can help him with something else. He confesses that since Jitters is gone, he will never see Natalie (Tess Atkins) again. Even though it isn’t a lawyer problem, Cecile decides to help him because it’s a meta-problem. She tells him that her powers are going to help him ask out Natalie.
Remington Meister (Carlo Rota) walks up as the team is playing their game. They introduce themselves and tells them they are there for Sue Dearborn. He says that he hasn’t seen her in months and Barry suggests that she could still be on the guest list. They notice that one of the women has on the same dress that Sue wore. She isn’t on the list. They finish the game and as he walks away he tells the woman to put their friend above on high alert. We then see Ultraviolet (Alexa Barajas) taking a picture of Ralph and Barry.
Ralph tracked down the dress Sue wore and he tries to get more information, but Barry still attempts to get him back to Central City. Ralph tells him that something is still going on because the majority of the people there are criminals. Barry says that The Flash and The Elongated Man need to take over. Ralph explains it will take time and they need to stay in their human identities instead of their metahuman ones. Ralph walks off, but Barry puts his ring on anyway.
Cecile set up to have coffee delivered to Chester. She talks to him through comms as she tries to read Natalie’s feelings. He attempts to give her compliments, but they fall through. He tries to ask her out, but that ends in him spilling half the coffees all over her. Frost says that the book of Ralph says to just be yourself when you ask someone out. Cecile blurts out wondering how is he supposed to be himself when he doesn’t know who he is anymore.
Allegra and Wells are in the sewers where she talks overwhelmingly about all the information she’s learning. Wells accidentally reveals to her that Barry Allen is The Flash. She gets upset that no one tells her anything, but he continues to talk about taking down The Monitor. She gets quieter when he says that he’s going to kill The Monitor, but Wells tells her to power on. She starts to back off of the idea, saying she isn’t a weapon.
Ralph finds some information about a “Ring of Fire” while Barry does a quick search of the building. He discovers Sue isn’t there, but Barry gets shocked where he stands. Ralph sees what the Ring of Fire is and realizes that they’re all there to bid on that. Unfortunately, he gets electrocuted by Meister. Barry gets up but knocked back down by Ultraviolet.
Meister and Ultraviolet have Ralph and Barry tied up to chairs with meta-tech. Flash realizes that Ultraviolet is the one helping Meister. The Flash set off the meta-activity monitor, which got Ralph caught. Meister unveils his deadly beam that will kill them when his Ring of Fire satellite is powered over Central City.
Wells tells Allegra that he thinks she’s afraid to use her powers because she believes taht she is going to become her cousin. Allegra admits that she doesn’t want to become evil and Wells encourages her by telling her she will not become the person her cousin turned out to be. She gains the courage to use her powers and helps Wells with the forcefield.
Cecile asks Chester how he’s holding up. Cecile realizes that she was using him for her own feelings. Chester tries to help her and Cecile confesses that she was replaced easily when she quit being the DA and now she’s afraid she will have nowhere to go if she fails at being a metahuman attorney. Chester says that she didn’t fail him so she shouldn’t be afraid and lets her know that he’s going to try again with Natalie.
Barry tells Ralph about him planning the conference so that he can tell the city he’s turning it over to Elongated Man. Ralph confesses that he should remember that Barry Allen is just as important as The Flash. They try to power down the machine by flicking a cufflink at it, but it starts shooting off by itself. Barry figures out a plan and they escape the meta-tech and successfully destroy the gun.
The auction begins and Meister reveals the Ring of Fire. He plans a demonstration and sets it for Central City when a drunk Barry makes his way onto the stage. Barry tries to keep the crowd busy while Ralph tries to get to the console. Meister tells Ultraviolet to escort Barry out, but Barry is ready to fight. Barry and Ultraviolet start fighting at the same time as Ralph and Meister. Meister gets the console to start its countdown. Ralph flashes his bowtie camera to stop Meister from killing him as Barry drops the lights on Ultraviolet and throws her chakram that takes down Meister. Ralph destroys the satellite.
They brief Joe on what happened before Ralph leaves to get ready for the ceremony. Chester finally asks out Natalie and he tells Cecile that he’s happy because he was himself when it happened. Cecile shows him his business cards and lets him know that he would be great at S.T.A.R. labs.
Allegra and Wells are in the office where he tells her she reminds him of someone after giving her a drink. He stops before he leaves and turns to look at her with tearful pained eyes.
The Flash recognizes The Elongated Man at the press conference held at CCPD. He wants the city to have more than one hero to look up to. Elongated Man promises to “defend Central City with his dying breath.” He then tells Barry to come to the podium, where Joe presents him with a Medal of Honor for all of the heroics he has done as the CSI of CCPD.
Ralph invites Iris to her office to show off his emblem and a picture of a man with a pen that she recognizes. He tells her Ultraviolet showed up there too and she says The Citizen is on it. When she leaves Ramsey (Sendhil Ramamurthy) shows up with black veins, black eyes and black blood seeping from him. He then attacks Ralph by throwing them both off the side of the building.
