The Ivy – Don’t Fall Asleep To This

Q) How would you best describe your sound?

Shawn: I like when people use the word “nostalgic” to describe our music. Every song takes on a style of its own and it’s really just what we think sounds good the day we’re working on it. I think that allows us to have a unique sound for each song, while at the same time standing true to those elements of indie pop that makes us sound like us.

Q) Who are your top 3 musical influences?

Shawn: When Wyatt and I met we both loved indie music, but Wyatt was influenced by bands like Radiohead, Coldplay, John Mayer and I was more of a Death Cab, Blink-182 and Porter Robinson fan.

Q) Tell us the story behind your new single “Don’t Fall Asleep To This.”

Shawn: Every writing session we go into we like to bring an idea or two just as a jumping off point. This time Wyatt brought a lullaby-sounding melody and just named the project: “don’t fall asleep to this.” Little did we know that would stay the name of the song!

Q) This new single is a collaboration with singer/songwriter Lyncs. How did this collaboration come to fruition?

Shawn: We had a writing session planned with Lyncs and while we were writing it, the story just started coming out as a duet with Lyncs and Wyatt singing together.

Q) What do you hope fans will take away from listening to “Don’t Fall Asleep To This?”

A) We hope people can connect with this song and the feeling of longing only brought from the struggles of a long distance relationship, while also shaking their body to the upbeat style of the song.

Q) What is your process for writing music? Do you need music before you can craft lyrics?

A) It’s usually nice to have some music created before jumping into lyrics. Sometimes we will have lines of lyrics written that get auditioned over whichever song we’re working on that day, but the bulk of lyric writing gets finished after the music is laid out.

Q) With the new single, is there a new album or EP in the works?

A) We have a lot of music! Right now we’re releasing singles but we definitely have material for a larger release.

Q) You are not only collaborating with Lyncs, but there is an upcoming tour this Spring! What can fans look forward to with this tour?

A) We’ll definitely be bringing the energy this tour! We’re so excited to get back on stage and in front of our fans again.

Q) Which city is your favorite to perform in and which new city are you looking forward to playing?

Shawn: My favorite city to perform in might be Chicago or Cleveland. I’m also excited to play Milwaukee for the first time!

Q) What artist would you love to collaborate with on music in the future?

Shawn: It would be a dream to collaborate with someone like A.G. Cook.

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of your music?

A) We’re so glad you’ve found us and it’s the best thing ever that people like you connect with the songs we write.
