Q) How would you best describe your sound?

A) I’d probably say straight up rock, but there’s definitely influences from punk to indie to hard rock, and everything in between.

Q) Who are your Top 3 musical influences?

A) Probably Trent Reznor, Prince and Billy Joe Armstrong, purely because they are also multi-instrumentalists and built their consistent sounds by experimenting on a range of instruments while writing their own tracks and performing live with incredible musicians in a band formation.

Q) Tell us the inspiration behind “Fun When You’re Winning” and how it came to be a part of the FIFA 2022 World Cup.

A) Aw yeah! “Fun When You’re Winning” is my psych up song – it’s the song you need before you go get ’em. If you are in the zone then winning is achievable because a lot of the time it’s mind over matter. Half the battle to winning is re-writing your beliefs and adopting a winning mindset. Plus, it’s fun when you’re winning!

Q) You also recently released a music video for “Fun When You’re Winning.” How did you come up with the concept behind the video?

A) In the single and music video I wanted to draw some parallels between professional musicians and sporting professionals. Touring is hard, physically, and essentially, it’s the outlet for years of training on instruments and outperforming – so it’s a lot more athletic than people realize. We focus, train and go out to put that out on the circuit. “Fun When You’re Winning” is the song that goes with that, because it can feel so incredible to get what you set out to achieve against all odds. In the video we are joined by two semiprofessional footballers who are shown to form bonds over their love of football.

Q) Since its release, what has been the reaction to the single from your fans and listeners?

A) We’ve had some brilliant reactions to the single, video and the live version of the track, as well as a lot of love for the fact the collective is growing and evolving. Daisy Pepper (in the video) and Keira Kenworthy (on tour) were both initiated into the collective this year and becoming fully fledged members. The track has had a lot of love from the off, particularly on sports coverage on TV and radio, so it made sense to release it now to see our team through the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Q) What message do you hope fans take away from “Fun When You’re Winning?”

A) I guess I’d like to convey that, yes, it is fun when you’re winning, but that that also is the fruit of a lot of hard work behind the scenes and a shift to a positive mindset that can help growth, as well as persistence. I called the album GRIT because I feel it represents a lot of the journey so far and was the motivation behind persisting at times when giving up was almost inevitable. Once you break through the biggest challenge, believing in yourself, then everything is possible.

Q) “Fun When You’re Winning” is on your current album Grit, which I absolutely love! During recording, which song did you have the most fun recording?

A) Thank you! Recording all the tracks were very fun but full on. I don’t think I could pick out a single one because so many different musicians were involved, and a lot of work was happening up until that point. We had a lot of fun in rehearsals for “Not Here for Love” though, including naming the metal inspired middle 8 section the “metal 8.” That really cracked us all up.

Q) You are currently on tour through December with Electric Six to promote your album, Grit. What can fans look forward to with these upcoming shows?

A) Honestly, this tour has been epic so far. We are blown away by how well the set is going down every night, and it’s been a pleasure working with Electric Six. They are not only a seriously epic live band, but they are true professionals having toured for twenty-one years. We are learning a lot of tips and tricks from these guys about life on the road while travelling and it’s super inspiring for us that they have released so many albums. On the show level, these shows ARE the next level. We are hungry for this and are going out night after night and giving it two hundred percent. It’s also been brilliant to play so many new tracks off GRIT, to see Team Razors out in full force and to meet so many new people. The atmosphere and energy are incredible.

Q) If you could collaborate with anyone on an upcoming project, who would you love to work with and why?

A) I’d love to collaborate with Tyler [Dick] from Electric Six. He’s always creating and making music, and the sound of E6 and the related projects have a lot of diversity and effortlessly switch up genres, a lot like us. I’d be really curious to see how a collaboration might work!

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A) I’d like to say a massive thank you to Team Razors – who have stuck with me and the collective through brilliant times and equally awful times. I’d like to say – Team Razors – your support is the life blood of this project and I hope that you are celebrating these milestones as your own. We’ve worked so hard to progress and level up…to break a project independently and it’s finally making a dent. The mainstream isn’t going to acknowledge it, but we know how far we have all pushed it. It’s incredible. Thank you, and let’s keep it going xx
