Episode six The Masters opens with Mackenzie (Kaitlin Olson) and Jimmy (Scott MacArthur) out on date. They’re at a restaurant much too fancy for the likes of them. Jimmy is attempting to be sophisticated while he tries out a wine before dinner. Mackenzie, who is actually impressed that Jimmy found such a great restaurant, questions him about how he came about it. He goes on to tell a story about how he was driving and got cut off by some guy and he was about to get into a fight when he smelled something good. He went to put his name down with the “door woman” (the hostess). Mackenzie and Jimmy are then brought their food and Mackenzie is in awe by how her food looks and decides to take a picture of it. She pulls out her flip phone (yes one from like 2003) and is taking a picture when Jimmy leans over and spills Mackenzie’s wine on her. Shocked she asks, “What the hell Jimmy!” Trying to find an excuse he says, “I thought it would be funny to ruin your picture.” Pissed off, Mackenzie gets up and leaves. Jimmy starts to follow her, but then realizes he wants to try some of her food. He grabs a handful of spaghetti (like a toddler) and puts it in his mouth. Jimmy starts to choke and Mackenzie comes back to see what’s wrong. Not in the slightest bit worried about Jimmy, she asks that someone help him out. A man in a rather well fitting suit, holding a glass of whiskey jumps up and punches Jimmy in the stomach. Jimmy coughs up his food and lives. Mackenzie, impressed by this mystery man, goes up to him. He introduces himself as Teddy (Dave Annable). Mackenzie, realizing it doesn’t get better than Teddy, looks down at Jimmy and breaks up with him.

The next day in the Pemberton mansion, Mackenzie is telling the story about how Teddy invited her to dinner on his boat. Chip (Thomas Barbusca), Ben (Jack Stanton), Sabrina (Sofia Black-D’Elia) and Alba (Carla Jimenez) are unimpressed by this news. Chip even questions if Mackenzie can trust this Teddy guy. Mackenzie mentions his last name is Grant and everyone all but spits out their drinks. Sabrina and Chip explain that Teddy Grant is the heir to a huge fortune and the his boat is a ninety foot yacht! Sabrina points out that Teddy is way out of Mackenzie’s league. Alba is a bit happier for Mackenzie and notes that Jimmy didn’t even deserve her to begin with. Chip’s phone starts to ring and when he looks at the number he doesn’t know it. He answers anyway and to his surprise it’s his parents!   Everyone leans in towards Chips phone, but to their disappointment they find out that their parents accidentally butt dialed them. Mad, the group breaks up and leaves the kitchen.

That night on Teddy’s yacht he is giving Mackenzie a tour of the ship. Teddy leads Mackenzie to the bedroom where she stumbles a bit and points out sometimes she gets sea sick. Teddy runs off to the bathroom to get some medicine to help her out. He gives her a bottle and turns to get something else, but when Teddy turns back to Mackenzie she has taken the whole bottle of medicine. A shocked Teddy points out that she was only supposed to have a cap full of it. Casually playing this off, Mackenzie says she can handle her medicine.

Not even an hour later Mackenzie is drunk off the medicine she took. Mackenzie and Teddy are about to have dinner when she reaches over and grabs the fish they are about to eat. Somewhat disturbed by Mackenzie, Teddy goes to take away her beer. Drunk and about to throw up, Mackenzie gets up and tries to find the bathroom but accidentally falls off the side of the boat. Shocked, Teddy rushes over to the railing where Mackenzie fell to see if she’s ok. Surprisingly, Mackenzie is already swimming back to the side of the boat.

Sobered up a bit, Mackenzie is back home with the kids and Alba contemplating how she can recover from her horrible date. Chip and Sabrina are still preoccupied by the fact that their parents aren’t home and haven’t called them (the butt dial doesn’t count). Sabrina is pessimistic about them ever coming home and tells Chip that she is just going to move into their parents bedroom. Mackenzie, thinking she is already in their parent’s bedroom, protests Sabrina’s decision. Sabrina lets Mackenzie on to a little secret, she isn’t living in their parents room and that she hasn’t even seen their parents room.

Upstairs Sabrina and Chip show Mackenzie the master bedroom. It’s the size of five of Mackenzie’s rooms put together. Stunned, she walks in and gets a feel for the place. As it was bound to happen, Sabrina and Mackenzie start to argue on who is going to get the room while Chip argues that no one should get it because their parents are going to come back. Sabrina and Mackenzie both agree that’s not happening to which Chip says he has evidence that they will.

Downstairs Chip has gathered everyone around to present his case. He plays for them the recording of his parents butt dial phone call and breaks down all the sounds that can be heard and the words he hears. He then explains that he thinks that someone smuggled them out of the country and that they are trying to get back into America to come be with their kids. Unconvinced by this Mackenzie says, “Well, I guess I’m moving into the master.”

Breaking in the new bedroom, Mackenzie and Alba are playing a game of pool. Alba tells Mackenzie that she is still hopeful that her and Teddy will be together. Mackenzie still thinks that there is no hope after her date and tells Alba that he still hasn’t called her back. Alba tells Mackenzie that she could always just pretend to butt dial Teddy so she can talk to him and not seem too desperate.

Later that night Mackenzie has written up a script for her and Alba to read for the fake butt dial. As things can only go from bad to worse Alba compares Mackenzie’s butt to a turkey neck and then they begin to switch up each other’s lines up. Mackenzie hangs up and looks at Alba disgusted. Right before she can insult Alba, Mackenzie’s phone starts to ring! It’s Teddy!

Teddy is giving Mackenzie another shot and invites her out for dinner again. Mackenzie is trying to play off the “butt dial.” Teddy tells Mackenzie that he’s going to be leaving soon to go to a boating event. Mackenzie decides this is her time to make a move and she invites Teddy over to her new master bedroom.

Back in the mansion Sabrina is starting to move her stuff into the master bedroom when Chip catches sight of her. Chip, still hopeful his parent will be back, starts to confront Sabrina. Sabrina antagonizes Chip to the breaking point, he goes mad and tackles Sabrina to the ground. They both engage in a full on fight where mirrors and glass are broken, pillows are opened up and wardrobes are shattered. The bedroom soon becomes a war zone. Teddy and Mackenzie open the door to find Chip and Sabrina have destroyed the room. Mackenzie tries to step in and stop the two from fighting, but is punched in the nose. Mackenzie backs off. Sabrina grabs a high heel and moves to throw it at Chip. Chip ducks and the heel goes straight into Teddy’s eye! Teddy is rolling around in pain while Mackenzie calls for Alba to come and remove the heel from Teddy’s eye. Just then Ben walks into the room and grabs the heel and yanks it out. Everyone is shocked and grossed out by this. Ben stands over Teddy as blood shots out of his eye on to him. Ben’s only reaction to this is “cool!”

Teddy is being taken out of the house on a stretcher still moaning in pain. As Teddy is being lifted into the back of an ambulance he makes it clear that he is never going to see Mackenzie again.

The next day everything seems to be back to normal. Mackenzie and Jimmy are showing Ben the movie Alien while Chip and Sabrina have made up. Chip has decided he is done with his parents so he goes and gives his cell phone, which has a direct line to his parents, over to investigators outside of his house. The investigators are going through Chip’s phone when they get a call from his parents. It’s the kids dad letting them know that they miss them and don’t know when they’ll be home. The investigators are able to trace the call and they’re one step closer to finding them now.
