Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) wakes up from a nightmare and immediately calls out for Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). “Mom, where is she?” Hope asks Freya (Riley Voelkel).  Freya tells Hope to breathe and then reminds her niece that her mother is dead. Hope cries in pain over her loss.

Meanwhile, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) reads a goodbye letter from Caroline: “Dear Klaus, You and I are no strangers to heartbreak.  But each loss hurts more than the last. I’ve had to return home to my daughters as I’m sure you can understand. Please know I am a phone call away if you need a friend. With all my soul for your sorrow and with love for you and your family, Caroline.”

Josh (Steven Krueger) blames himself for what happened to Hayley because he allowed Greta to get away. Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) assure Josh it’s not his fault. Marcel says that the people who did this to Hayley are like a cancer that need to be wiped out. Vincent tells Josh and Marcel that he’s set up a meeting between the four factions. Josh wonders whether Klaus will stay out of the city, because if he returns to New Orleans with Hope he’ll bring all that chaos with him. Marcel assures that Klaus will do the right thing.  Then they toast to Hayley. “To Hayley, may she sleep with the angels and I’m sure she’ll teach them a thing or two.”

At the Salvatore Boarding School, Hope looks through her wardrobe to decide what to wear to her mother’s werewolf funeral. Freya receives a phone call from Klaus who asks “did you find a witch to help with our geographical predicament?”  Klaus wants to be there for Hope but understands that physically he can’t be there. “Vincent asked Ivy to do it.” “Ivy hates me,” Klaus reminds. “All the witches hate you, but they liked Hayley.” Klaus doesn’t care what the ramifications are if he and Hope are together. “I should let the city burn,” Klaus says. Suddenly, there are nature signs effecting the Mikaelson mansion showing that another Mikaelson is in the city.  Klaus realizes that it’s Elijah (Daniel Gillies).

A vampire named Emmett (Robert Baker) greets Elijah and Antoinette (Jaime Murray).  He says that they are honoring Greta. Antoinette tells him that her brother is not in the city because of the role he played in Hayley’s death. Emmett says that Greta’s supporters believed in her message; the vampires need to reclaim their place as the apex predators and rid the city of New Orleans of its abominations. “There hasn’t been a movement in over a century and with good reason,” Antoinette says. Emmett says that they will have an army to aid them in their cause. “You call this an army?” Elijah asks. “You’re early,” Emmett answers as more vampires suddenly appear.

But as Elijah and Antoinette are leaving, they are attacked by Klaus who inflicts his deadly hybrid bite on Antoinette.

Ivy (Shiva Kalaiselvan) comes to see Vincent and tells him about all the biblical things that are happening in New Orleans. She shows him a tome that talks about a deadly prophecy.  “It gets worse,” Ivy says.

Meanwhile, Elijah wakes up in a cell with Antoinette, who tells him that Klaus’ vampires shot him up with vervain. “We were foolish to go there,” Antoinette says then shows Elijah the wolf bite on her neck.

Marcel berates Klaus for what he’s done. Greta has already been turned into a martyr, her followers won’t appreciate that he also plans to murder her daughter and will come for Klaus. “Let them come, I’m in a mood for a fight,” Klaus tells Marcel. Klaus receives a call from Elijah. He accuses Klaus of hurting Antoinette to cause him (Elijah) the pain of watching her die. “On a day filled with great sorrow I take great pleasure in watching her suffer,” Klaus says.  Elijah offers Klaus a deal. “What if you could have me back?” Elijah tells Klaus that as Marcel and Vincent cast a spell to take away his memories he’s sure they can bring it back. But Klaus refuses Elijah’s offer.  “What are you doing? This is exactly what you wanted, you can get your brother back,” Marcel reminds. “My brother is dead to me,” Klaus says. He tells Marcel how Hayley looked right at Elijah thinking he was there for her but he let her die.

Antoinette can’t believe that Elijah was willing to get his memories back without talking to her.  She tells Elijah that seven years with her can’t make up for over a thousand years of loving his family.

Marcel tells Vincent about Elijah’s call and deal. Marcel thinks they should take Elijah up on the offer. “And how does that help us?” Vincent asks. Marcel answers that Elijah will return to France and take Greta’s Nazi Vampires with him, adding that they have been bragging about how they have an Original on their side. Marcel tells Vincent that he’s been keeping a vial of Klaus’ blood for a rainy day. Vincent asks that if Elijah understands the consequences if he and Klaus are together, why did they take away his memories in the first place?  Marcel thinks it will be a long time before Klaus and Elijah find their way back to each other.

Hope asks Freya how long before her father comes.  She can’t believe that no one told Declan about her mother. Freya says Declan is in Ireland.

Klaus meets with Ivy so she can perform the spell. He asks whether the witches will secretly try to take revenge against him.  “No witch would ever touch a man on the day he buries his daughter’s mother,” Ivy assures. “Just make sure I don’t end up at the bottom of the Mississippi,” Klaus warns.

Hope thinks the funeral is all wrong because most of the people there her mother didn’t even know. Freya says that as Hayley made a mark on the city the people are there to honor her. Freya calls Vincent to ask where he and Marcel are and are told they have something to do and she should cover for them.  Suddenly, a van pulls up and Emmett promises destruction unless Elijah and Antoinette are returned to them. The vampires begin attacking the crowd. Hope thinks the funeral already sucks and refuses to allow the vampires to ruin it further. She begins chanting a spell. Freya calls out to Josh, who uses his vampire speed to grab Hope out of the way before Emmett and his vampires shoot her.

Ivy uses magic to stop Klaus from going to his daughter. She shows him the prophecy The Death of Firstborns, which will happen quicker due to the plagues that have been coming when the Mikaelsons get together. But Klaus demands that Ivy finish the spell. “Take me to my daughter,” Klaus tells Ivy.

Marcel and Vincent arrive at the cell outside of the city and promise Elijah they will cure Antoinette once they restore Elijah’s memories.

An astral projected version of Klaus appears in Hope’s room. She orders him to go away.  Hope is angry that her father left her all alone. “My mother is dead and it’s my fault.  I don’t need a half version of you,” Hope tells the astral projection of Klaus.

Klaus carves ‘Hayley Marshall’ into a tree and tells Hayley that he wants Hope to grow up into the strong woman that her mother was. “I don’t know what to do and I really wish you were here to tell me little wolf,” Klaus says.

“The promises of always and forever that angered you, fueled you and grounded you for almost a thousand years…remember that love,” Marcel says as he does the spell to restore Elijah’s memories, “Remember that bond.  Open the red door…let it all back in.” As Marcel continues to repeat “Let it all back in” we see Elijah at the red door remembering everything that happened between he and Klaus and the Mikaelsons.  Elijah tries to fight the memories.  “Remember the bond. Always and forever. Remember your family…remember Hayley,” Marcel urges. Elijah passes out as the memories become too much for him to bear.

Freya talks with Klaus on the phone.  She tells him that the prophecy of The Death of Firstborns is true, every moment they spend together brings them closer to their deaths.  She also reveals that Marcel and Vincent has decided to take Elijah up on his offer.  Klaus says that once Elijah remembers his role in what happened (Hayley’s death) he’ll be destroyed.  “I was just trying to protect him from himself,” Klaus tells Freya before hanging up the line. Feeling overwhelmed and useless, Freya breaks down in tears.

Antoinette asks Marcel and Vincent what they did to Elijah. Vincent says that a dark magic appears placed on Elijah’s body. Marcel thinks that Greta’s minions could be involved in the magic. “If Elijah doesn’t wake up in time just consider him another of Greta’s victims,” Marcel angrily tells Antoinette as he and Vincent leave the cell.

Hope assures Freya together they’ll bring back always and forever. “You taught me everything I know about magic.” Freya is happy to see Keelin (Christina Moses), who got on a plane as soon as she heard the news about Hayley. At Hayley’s werewolf funeral in the bayou, Freya talks about how Hayley made her part of a family the same as she’s done for many of them and will always be remembered for that. Hope is surprised when Klaus arrives. “Things are going to get ugly, but I had to be there for my daughter,” Klaus tells Hope. He promises that he’ll always be there for her, even when they can’t be physically together. Suddenly the raft carrying Hayley’s body catches fire. “I’m going to fix this for us,” Hope assures her father.

Klaus returns to the Mikaelson mansion where he comes face-to-face with Elijah. “You’re trapped and there’s no way out,” Elijah tells Klaus.
