The Originals – The Feast for All Sinners
By: Stacy Miller
It’s the Season Finale of “The Originals” and the episode picks up where the last one ended with Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) telling the Mikaelsons what they can do to save Hope (Summer Fontana) from The Hollow (Blu Hunt). The plan contains two steps: Pulling The Hollow out of Hope and placing it in a host equally powerful to contain it. Actually, four hosts but better still, four powerful vampires. Yep, you guessed it, Vincent wants to place the essence of The Hollow in the four immortal Mikalesons: Elijah, Klaus, Rebekah and Kol. He goes on further to explain when The Hollow was defeated the first time, her four bones were scattered in four different locations. So, if they put her in the four Mikalesons she won’t have her ultimate power. However, in order for the plan to work, all four Mikalesons must separate from each other for eternity; thus ending always and forever. Klaus says that if this is what they need to do to protect his little girl, they’ll make it so.
Meanwhile, Hope is with The Hollow’s followers. The first order of business is resurrecting dead acolyte Dominic (Darri Ingolfsson). Once he is restored, Dominic reminds the followers that The Hollow has the power to transcend death and will destroy all those who challenge her power and stand against her. The followers kneel before Hope, now The Hollow.
Back at the Mikaelson estate, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) cuts her hand as Vincent needs the Mikaelsons’ blood. Rebekah tells him that she can’t reach their brother Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic). The plan won’t work without him. Rebekah can’t believe that Kol got away from all this drama just to be called back to become a fourth of a host to a powerful evil entity. Freya (Riley Voelkel) refuses to accept this and see the end of her family. She will go to the Bell Tower and search their mother’s grimoires for another solution. Rebekah finds it difficult to believe that after centuries of always and forever they are to be separated forever. This is more torture than the blade of unspeakable torture a/k/a the Tunde Blade. She wonders how they will all bear being apart.
Meanwhile, Josh (Steve Krueger) is immobilizing the witches in the search for Hope by providing them with a photo of the little girl. Suddenly, Dominic appears. He throws Josh across the room and tells the witches that when they (the followers of The Hollow) are finished with the vampires, they will fall to their knees. He urges the witches to pledge their loyalty to The Hollow if they want to experience ultimate power.
Elijah is willing to leave Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), the woman he loves, for Hope’s sake speaks to how he has always made the sacrifices for the family. Rebekah worries that without Elijah around to keep him grounded, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) will once again become the monster he used to be.
Hope is walking down the streets of the French Quarter while Dominic is telling all the witches of New Orleans to pledge themselves to The Hollow. Some agree but some run off in fear. Hope breaks street lights and windows to show The Hollow’s power. Hayley suddenly appears before her and calls out to her daughter that she knows that she is inside The Hollow and she must fight her. Hope raises Hayley into the air, then snaps her (Hayley) neck. If there was a drinking game for viewers of “The Originals” on how many times Hayley’s neck has been snapped, we’d all be drunk and unable to finish an episode!
Hayley wakes up at the Mikaleson estate and was told that she was found and brought there. Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Sofya (Taylor Cole) comes to the bar and find Josh, who tells them that Sofya’s old pal Dominic is alive, having been resurrected by The Hollow. Sofya thinks they should get out of New Orleans before The Hollow unleashes her wrath upon them, but Josh feels they should work with The Mikalesons in order to beat The Hollow. Vincent tells Hayley about the ritual he is working on with the Mikaelsons that will save her daughter. But he tells her something that he didn’t tell Klaus and his family. As The Hollow has tasted Hope’s power, she will be in constant search to join with the little girl again once she is separated from Hope’s body. So, Hayley must pack her and Hope’s things and be ready to flee once the ritual is completed. Which means, Hayley will be taking Hope away from her family, especially her father Klaus…forever. Vincent says that he knows that Klaus will not be okay with this, but Hayley must do it for Hope.
In the Bell Tower Freya has been going through her mother’s grimoires, but hasn’t been able to come up with an alternative that doesn’t involve tearing her family apart. She calls Keelin (Christina Moses) to share her frustration and tells her girlfriend that she needs her.
Klaus is annoyed because Kol has been unreachable. Hayley arrives and tells him that Vincent told her about the plan. Rebekah reminds that it will only work if they have Kol. Hayley says that The Hollow inside their daughter’s body is at the church with her followers. Klaus wants to storm in and grab Hope, but Hayley tells him that because of the followers and that their daughter is possessed, they can’t just take her. Later, Elijah goes to see Hayley to talk about how distant she’s been to him. He reminds that he can’t change his actions in the past. All Hayley cares about now is getting her daughter back.
Marcel tells Sofya that they have to give the Mikaelsons all of the dark objects that he has to use against The Hollow. When they arrive at the church, Marcel tells Dominic and The Hollow followers that they (he and Sofya) are there because they want to work with Dominic and The Hollow to get the Mikaelsons out of New Orleans once and for all. Dominic puts down the boundary spell and allows Marcel and Sofya to approach the altar where he (Dominic) stands with The Hollow. He orders the King of New Orleans to kneel before The Hollow. Marcel does as he is told. But as Dominic is telling the followers how the mighty King of New Orleans knows that The Hollow is powerful and has joined her, Marcel blows a potion in Hope’s face rendering her unconscious and then carries her out of the church. Sofya stabs Dominic. Klaus and Elijah arrive. Elijah tells the followers to consider the structure of the building before lighting a bottle of gasoline and throwing it at the crowd, igniting the followers in flames.
Back at the Mikaelson estate, Klaus talks to his unconscious daughter, telling Hope that he knows she can hear him. He says that she is strong and brave and can fight this. Hayley enters and tells Klaus that there is something Vincent told her about the ritual that he (Klaus) won’t like, but Hayley knows he’ll do it for Hope even if it means never seeing his daughter again. The pained look on Klaus’ face is heartbreaking.
Rebekah angrily confronts Vincent for keeping the bit about Hayley and Hope leaving after the ritual from them. Vincent doesn’t care how the Mikaelsons feel; he knows they will do the right thing for Hope and doesn’t need to convince them to do so. Vincent says that if Kol doesn’t show up, they have to use Hayley. Freya is determined not to let that happen. She may have another way that will keep Hayley out of this.
Klaus talks with Marcel outside the cemetery and admits that he was never a good father to Gerard. He knew that Marcel would have grown up to be a better man than Klaus ever was. Klaus confesses that Marcel will always be family and the only reason Klaus fought against a romantic pairing between Marcel and Rebekah was because Klaus was jealous. Klaus tells Marcel that he’s ashamed of his actions and wanted to tell him if they will never see each other again. Klaus’ words strike an emotional chord with Marcel.
Keelin goes to see Freya, who tells her about the plan to rid Hope of The Hollow involves four vampires, Freya’s family. Ms. Mikaelson goes on to explain that if her brother Kol doesn’t make it, she doesn’t want Hayley to make the sacrifice and be separated from her daughter. Freya grew up without her own mother and doesn’t want the same thing to happen to Hope. Freya decides that she will become the fourth vampire. Freya drinks a glass of blood to prepare her body to become a vampire, even if that means she’ll never be able to do magic again. Fortunately, Kol arrives just in time.
At the Mikaelson estate, Klaus comments on Kol’s dramatic moment. In a touching scene, Klaus tells Elijah that he knows that he (Elijah) will feel the pain of the family’s separation the most as Elijah was the keeper of the bond. Klaus urges Elijah not to try to save him when Klaus eventually returns to his old blood sucking ways. The brothers share an emotional hug. Then, it’s time for the ritual. Vincent tells Hayley to be ready to uncuff Hope when he tells her. Rebekah sadly says that always and forever had a good run. Vincent chants and each of the four Mikaelsons take it a blue ball of light (The Hollow). After the ritual is over, Rebekah comments that she can feel it inside her. Vincent orders the Mikalesons to go. Elijah and Hayley look at each other one last time. Klaus wants to know whether Hope is alright before he leaves. The little girl wakes up and asks what is happening. Klaus tells Hope that he loves her before running off. Before she leaves, Rebekah gives Freya a necklace to give to Hope.
Elijah and Marcel go to the house where the Mikaleson family first saw the little boy Marcellus. Elijah asks Marcel to help release him from his (Elijah) vow to protect his family. Vincent arrives and performs a ritual. Then, Marcel compels Elijah to forget always and forever.
Freya gives Hope the necklace from Rebekah and tells her that no matter where she is, her family will always be with her. Freya hugs her niece as Hope and Hayley leave. Meanwhile, Marcel runs into Rebekah. “You didn’t say goodbye,” Marcel reminds. “I thought you’d be busy with your plaything Sabrina,” Rebekah says. Marcel tells Rebekah that Sofya wanted him to go with her, but he’d rather be there with Rebekah. He says that are now free to be together.
In San Francisco, Kol gives a jeweler a large diamond and asks the man to make it into necklace, earrings and an engagement ring for Davina (Danielle Campbell).
In Mystic Falls, Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis) tells Hayley that Hope seems to be fitting in with the magical kids at his school.
As the season finale closes, we see that Elijah is in France at a club playing the piano. Klaus puts a large bill in the tip glass. Elijah turns to face his brother, but doesn’t recognize him.
