Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is having breakfast with Hope (Danielle Ross Russell) and Freya (Riley Voelkel) and talks about how now that the curse that has plagued their family for seven years and caused their separation is over, they can be together as a family again and celebrate the bond of always and forever. When Elijah (Daniel Gillies) enters, the room goes silent. And Hope uses the dark magical powers to bend her spoon. “Obviously we have a lot to discuss. Hope, let me begin by saying how truly sorry I am.” “Thanks for breakfast guys but I have homework to catch up on,” Hope says ignoring her uncle and leaving the room. Elijah comments that he shouldn’t have come downstairs. Glancing at Hope’s bent spoon, Klaus says “That’s not normal.” He blames Freya for going against the family’s plan to keep the dark magic away from Hope. “If my daughter is harmed in any way, shape or form I’m holding you personally responsible,” Klaus warns his sister.

Josh (Steven Krueger) and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) talk about how Emmett (Robert Baker) and his Nazi Vampires continue to spread their hate causing the division in the city.

Meanwhile, Lisina (Alexis Louder) reads a flyer in which the vampires are demanding to reclaim the French Quarter and force the werewolves back to live in the bayou. Keelin (Christina Moses) tells Lizina that she is leaving New Orleans. Even though she loves Freya, Keelin knows that Freya needs to be in New Orleans with her family who’s complicated.  But Keelin has to be out in the world where she’s needed. They find that the vampires have destroyed the wolves’ Mardi Gras float.

Klaus goes to Hope’s room where he finds her painting. Hope says that being a helicopter parent doesn’t work on her dad.  Klaus expresses concern over the spoon she bent in half because of the dark magic.  Hope assures that she is learning to control it. But seeing Elijah didn’t help as she’s not ready to forgive him yet.

Next, Freya explains to Klaus that when she looks at Hope she sees the daughter she never got a chance to raise. She tells Klaus that when Hope came to her in so much pain, she (Freya) knew she had to help.   But now that Hope has the dark magic in her, they have to come up with another way to keep it at bay. Freya gives Klaus the bracelet Hope wore for protection and tells her brother that Hope took it off a few years ago saying they she didn’t need it anymore. But now Freya thinks Hope should start wearing it again.

After Klaus leaves, Freya is confronted by Declan (Torrance Coombs) who is upset and angry that his girlfriend died and he had to learn the news via text. Declan asks how it happened. Freya lies that Hayley was driving during the storm and lost control of her car and her brakes failed.

Josh and Marcel go to see Emmett and his crew and tell the vampires that they are no longer welcome in the quarter. Emmett explains that he is attempting to keep peaceful co-existence between the species with everyone in their place; including the “dogs” (werewolves) and half-breeds (hybrids). When Marcel tells Josh that the room could use a little more sunshine and Josh pulls the curtains, Emmett and his crew take cover. Emmett promises they’ll be back when the sun goes down and warns that if he sees any wolves in the quarter when he returns, they’ll be Hell to pay.

Elijah meets Declan and learns that he (Declan) lost someone recently he loved. Elijah offers to buy Declan a few drinks so they can talk about it.

Lisina gives a passionate speech about how the vampires won’t make them run away in fear; they’ll get the float up and running and will show them they can’t be scared so easily.

Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) tells Ivy (Shiva Kalaiselvan) they can’t let Emmett and his vampires tell them how to live their lives. Later, Vincent meets with Emmett and refuses to allow him to intimidate him into choosing a side. Emmett calls Vincent a true leader who wants what is best for the city.  Vincent warns that if one of his witches get so much as a papercut, Emmett will pay.

Josh reminds Marcel that it was his rules of separation for the werewolves, witches and vampires that put them in the place they are now.

To ease her father’s worry, Hope puts on her bracelet.  But that doesn’t stop the whispers in her head.  Or the bracelet from burning her wrist. Hope pleads with the voices to stop. Hope tells Klaus that she needs a spell because the bracelet isn’t working.

Declan shows Elijah his (Declan) grandmother’s ring that he got the last time he was in Ireland. Declan was planning to ask Hayley to marry him even though he knew that she would probably had turned him down.  Declan says that he knows she was still holding a candle for her ex who broke her heart.  He realizes that Elijah is Hayley’s ex and asks why he is there. Elijah explains that he lost so many years with her and wanted to know what her life was without him. Declan demands to know how Hayley really died; he realizes that it wasn’t a car accident and Elijah knows what really happened. Declan wants Elijah to tell him the truth.  Their conversation is interrupted by Hope, who wants to know what Elijah is doing there.

In the church, Lisina is telling Keelin about how her mother was once the queen of Mardi Gras and it was a memory that she held onto the whole time they were forced to live in the bayou. Lisina encourages Keelin to go help Freya as Keelin is leaving town soon and should spend as much time as she can with the person she loves. After Keelin walks away, a man approaches Lisina with a briefcase.  He apologizes and says that he was told that he had to do this.  Suddenly, the briefcase explodes.  Freya finds Keelin among the rubble and pleads with her girlfriend to open her eyes.  Keelin wakes up…she’s fine.  Unfortunately, Lisina wasn’t so lucky. Freya and Keelin cry when they see Lisina’s burned and dead body.

When Hope says that Elijah is the reason that he mother is dead, Declan takes that to mean that Elijah killed Hayley.  But Hope corrects him and says that her mother would still be alive if Elijah hadn’t been there. When Elijah grabs Declan, Hope tells Elijah not to hurt him.  “I’m not going to hurt him.  But we can’t do this in front of him.” “Fine,” Hope says using her powers to put Declan asleep, “Now it’s just you and me.”

As he and Josh lament the deaths of the three innocents, Marcel talks about how he thought he was doing right by the city. “I used to think that what I was doing was for the best. The werewolves were dangerous, the witches unpredictable and the vampires well, they were my people. And every day New Orleans didn’t fall apart was proof that I was right,” Marcel tells Josh, “But these people want violence for the sake of it.  And I’ll be damned if I let them use my name to do it.”

Elijah and Hope finally have their confrontation. “You let her die,” Hope angrily says. “My memory was gone. I didn’t know who she was,” response Elijah. “I hate you!” Hope yells. “I hate me too,” adds Elijah. Hope uses the dark magic powers to slash Elijah. Klaus’ arrival stops her from finishing her uncle off. She leaves. “What the Hell was that?” Declan asks having woken up.

Marcel leads the vampires in a match to honor Lisina and her strength and to show Emmett and his vampires that they won’t back down. Ivy reminds Vincent that Emmett will retaliate, but Vincent assures that they’ll be ready. “I’ll see you on the other side of this.” Ivy tells Vincent that she’s going to the City of the Dead to pray for those who lost their lives.

Freya asks Keelin to marry her. She explains how she planned how she would ask her two years ago but it wasn’t the right time. But Freya realizes that there was never the right time because of her family. “But you are my family and I don’t want to spend another day with you,” Freya says.  Keelin accepts Freya’s proposal.

Elijah tells Declan that New Orleans is full of vampires, witches and other things and Hayley was one of them. He assures that Hayley didn’t lie to Declan when she said she loved him. Then, Elijah compels Declan to forget everything he told him. And to be at peace over his questions on Hayley’s death and to know that she loved him.

Hope tells Klaus that since she took the power she hasn’t been able to sleep or think. But the whispers stop when she satisfies her rage with violence. “I thought that I could handle it,” Hope says.  “You’re handling it as best as you can and I’m going to be with you every step of the way,” Klaus promises.

Marcel and Vincent face Emmett and his vampires.  But after Vincent vows to stand with the wolves, Emmett’s vampires disappear. They were astral projections. Vincent tells Marcel that Emmett must have a witch working for him. He wanted to see what side Vincent would chose and would punish him for choosing the wrong one.  Vincent rushes to Ivy but finds she has been poisoned along with the other witches who were praying for the dead.
