The Originals – Where Nothing Stays Buried

For being a show about immortal characters, “The Originals” has seen its share of deaths recently. Fresh off the death of Cami O’ Connell (Leah Pipes), viewers had to deal with Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) murder at the hands of her out-of-control vampire lover Kol Mikaelson (Nathaniel Buzolic). A decision made by Freya and Elijah may lead to the prophecy coming true.

Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) finds Kol cradling Davina’s lifeless body in his arms. Kol laments that he loved Davina and never wanted to hurt her. Marcel is furious and lets his fists do the talking. Afterwards, he reminds Kol that in New Orleans a witch doesn’t have to stay dead. They can resurrect Davina.

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is still mourning Cami, so much so that her dead body continues to remain unburied. But Klaus will only grieve to a certain point because he has more important things to do. Like killing Lucien (Andrew Lees).

Meanwhile, Freya (Riley Voelkel) and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) are hard at work trying to figure out a way to do just that. Vincent thinks the answers lies in Aurora, but Freya is focused on her mother Esther’s idea to reverse the spell that she used on her children to make them vampires. If they can reverse the spell Vincent used to create the new, deadlier version of Lucien, he’ll be killable. The only problem is that Vincent had the power of the Ancestors behind him when he performed the spell and now he’s cut off from their power.

However, figuring out a way to kill Lucien will have to wait because Marcel needs Vincent to help with resurrecting Davina. A witch is usually consecrated in death, but since the Ancestors shunned Davina, sending her their way is like sending her to die twice. So, they will need to put Davina’s soul somewhere safe and where the Ancestors can’t get to her until she can be resurrected.

They will need the Mikaelsons’ help and despite the differences between he and Davina, Klaus is agreeable. The Mikaelsons are the best supernatural family ever as there is a witch, vampires and werewolves and soon, a ghost will enter their midst: Davina. Freya will create a circle in which Davina’s spirit can occupy to keep her from the Ancestors. Powerful witch Freya will also need to channel an Original. She can’t use Kol because of the Ancestors’ power over him. Klaus is no good either because Lucien will now be going after Rebekah’s body as bait to use against Klaus, who has decided to hide his sister’s body again. That leaves Elijah (Daniel Gillies) as the Original to channel.

Klaus and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) take off for the bayou while the consecration of Davina begins. On the other side, Davina is pursued then attacked by the Ancestors, who are trying to do something to her with some sort of magical witch stone. Fortunately, Freya is able to bring Davina’s spirit into the circle just in time because apparently the witch stone used by the Ancestors is the ultimate torture. It marks a witch’s soul and shreds it so there’s no way to bring a witch back. But Kol assures Davina that he will bring her back.

Freya though is telling Elijah that she may have a way to reverse the spell on Lucien (Andrew Lees) so they will be able to kill him. But in order to do so, she’ll need to use Davina as a conduit to the Ancestors’ power and to do that, Davina won’t be in the protection of the circle. So the bottom line is, do they risk Davina to defeat Lucien?

Elijah doesn’t want to put Davina in danger. And even Klaus, when he is called and told of Freya’s plan, agrees with Elijah. If they do anything to risk resurrecting Davina, Kol (as well as Marcel) will turn against them. Both are family and Klaus doesn’t want to lose either. Cami’s love has caused Klaus to encourage Hayley not to waste time and tell Elijah how she feels about him, considering there is a dangerous prophecy hanging over them. Elijah is calling as Klaus is talking about him, but as he hands Hayley the cell phone their car is hit by Lucien. It’s showdown time! Realizing they’ve run out of time, Elijah reluctantly agrees to Freya’s plan.

Davina shares a touching moment with Marcel in which she thanks him for always being there for her. But her problems with the Ancestors, including her shunning, were because of the choices she made. This was such a heartwarming scene pulled off brilliantly by Danielle Campbell and Charles Michael Davis.

Suddenly, Elijah pins Marcel against the wall before snapping his neck while Freya grabs Davina by the arm. Freya recites a spell while using Davina as a conduit to the Ancestors’ power. Now, Davina is out of the protective circle and back with the Ancestors. She is bleeding from her eyes. Then, the Ancestors use the green stone on her.

Kol and Vincent come to the compound with Van Nyugen, the new Regent. But even with the Regent’s power, the spell to resurrect Davina doesn’t work. “It’s like she wasn’t there at all,” Van (Lawrence Kao) says. Davina’s soul has been destroyed so there’s no coming back for her.

In the bayou, an epic fight is taking place between Klaus and Lucien, with Lucien throwing Klaus around like a ragdoll. Lucien reaches into Hayley’s body and puts his hand on her heart, ready to rip it out of her chest. He orders Klaus to kneel before him if he wants to save the life of the mother if his child. A defeated Klaus obeys. Just then the cavalry arrives, well Freya and Elijah. With the power of the Ancestors, Freya is able to reverse the spell on Lucien. But before Klaus rips out his heart, Lucien reminds that the Mikaelsons won’t be able to escape the prophecy. Goodbye Lucien and goodbye Andrew Lees and his fabulous portrayal.

Once they are back home, Klaus learns of the tough choice Freya and Elijah made. He tries to offer words of comfort to Marcel, but his surrogate son is distraught over Davina’s death. “Anybody who’s not your family is nothing to you,” Marcel says in anger. If he was once part of the family, Marcel says he is no longer is before walking out.

Vincent is also angry with Freya, calling her “just as much as a bloodsucker” as the rest of the Mikaelsons. Later, Vincent goes to Marcel and offers him the serum from Aurora’s blood to turn him like Lucien so he can take on the Mikaelsons. And Kol kills Van Nguyen as without Davina, he doesn’t care if he’s a monster.

Next Week: The prophecy against the Mikaelsons family is looking like it is about to come true: They will all fall, one by foe (Lucien), one by friend (Vincent) and one by family (Marcel).
