The Royals – In the Same Figure, Like the King That’s Dead
By: Luke Joseph
The Tiger Princess
Our favorite Princess (Alexandra Park) is doing everything she possibly can to distract herself from her broken heart. Thanks to Jasper (Tom Austen), who still hasn’t responded back to her, she decides to participate in a naked tiger run with her new friend Sebastian (Toby Sandeman). Usually when one participates in a run they actually run, but shortly after the race begins they end up ditching Eleanor’s newly hired bodyguard Rosie (poor Rosie) so that they can go off on their own. There is flirting involved despite Eleanor warning, “No flirting, not a date.” Anytime that Jasper is brought up we can see the despair in her eyes. Fret not though loyals because Eleanor knows that something is up! Okay, so basically Eleanor spends the entirety of the episode getting wined and dined by Sebastian. He’s a charmer and it seems that Eleanor enjoys spending her time with him. Her new friend proves to be a nice distraction from going down that drug induced road she tends to go down when things get rough.
Sebastian isn’t the only friend that Eleanor made friends with. Though Eleanor had been known for firing many bodyguards, she never made any cry. That was until now when she and Sebastian had ditched Rosie (Sara Armstrong) at the tiger race so they could do their own thing. Returning to the palace, Eleanor is greeted to an overwhelmed and in tears security detail. Rather than taunt her for it she actually feels sorry for her and apologizes. Rosie is a refreshing change of pace and actually shares many similarities with Eleanor. We all hope that these two can have a friendship like Liam and Jasper because our Princess needs a friend without a hidden agenda.
The Bodyguard with a Plan
What a way for our favorite Bodyguard to return! Many fans would want to wake up to the sight of Jasper Frost sitting at their bedside and Harper (Margo Stilley) had gotten to live that dream, sort of. Harper had woken up to Jasper seated by her bedside with coffee mug in hand. The fact that he had broken into her apartment sat calm, cool and collected was amusing to see. By his conversation with Harper we were reminded of the colorful past that Jasper has had. It was nice to see how the tables had turned – how he proved to Harper that you can’t out con a conman. In Eleanor’s eyes, because of the ignored texts, she views it as Jasper no longer caring for her but it’s the exact opposite. There is determination with each new step that he takes – hoping that he’s one step closer to reuniting with his Princess.
So what was Jasper’s plan? He had explained to Harper that if she put his story behind her then her own would never come out and she would get an exclusive. It would be the kind of exclusive that would blow Jasper’s story right out of the water because it has to deal with his Highness Robert. Think, think, think, got it? Yup, it’s about Brandon Boone (Tom Christian) – the one who had been hired to crash Robert’s plane. It turns out though that Brandon has some juicy info that Jasper should know. What might this info be? Could it be something to do with Simon? Is Robert Simon’s biological son? Had Robert had anything to do with his father’s death? Honestly, there are so many possibilities but we’re going to have to wait.
Chad, Faux Shaman & the Fox
“If I lose the crown I’ll blow my goddamn brains out,” Cyrus (Jake Maskall) confesses to Dame Cinnamon (Scarlett Archer) with tears running down his face. Throughout the episode Cyrus had gone through desperate measures that would help in saving him from the cancer. He even went as far as hiring a shaman (fraud) who in order to complete the ritual needed the blood of a fox. Unfortunately, the shaman had been a dud and the fox had bitten Cyrus before blood had even been spilled. Letting it finally sink in that he’s dying he has a full on breakdown because he’s realizing that a life without the crown isn’t worth living.
Henstridge Brothers Truce or Not?
Since Robert’s return Liam’s (Max Brown and William Mosley) mood has been sour, but it was refreshing for a change for us to see Liam actually starting to accept that he’s struggling giving up the power to Robert. He’s had so much taken from him since Robert’s return. The girl, the limelight and the crown. Finally, he’s apologizing to his brother for how he’s treated him. This is the Liam that fans know and love. Someone who is humble and owns up to his mistakes. “When you were gone, I finally found some direction and meaning and it’s been a struggle giving that up,” Liam had explained to his brother.
With the public Robert acts like a true prince. He handles the attention with grace and such ease. He is shown as a good boyfriend because of how he admits to Kathryn (Christina Wolfe) that he’s willing to give up the throne. In the future he wants to have kids and someone to grow old with, without being cast in the spotlight. He seems to be great with everything that he does except for being a big Brother.
Cold as Ice Queen
Remember that charming business entrepreneur Jack Parker (Doug Allen)? It turns out that Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) is quite smitten with this man. Rather than focusing on the crown she’s been spending a lot of time focusing on her love life. It’s good to be Queen but not so much the Queen’s Lord Chamberlain. Spencer (Jules Knight) and Helena had been shagging and things seemed to be progressing with them until Jack came along. Sadly, Helena is acting as if whatever had happened between her and Spencer hadn’t even happened at all. The Queen wants to be able to date publicly and Jack can offer her that. Spencer? Not so much. Not to mention he is the help and only the help. It wasn’t just a quick shag for Spencer though he had genuinely started to fall for Helena and when he realized that she had only seen him as a boy toy he felt it only right to resign from his job. If the Princess always gets what she wants the Queen does too because she rejects his letter of resignation. Throughout this episode Helena had acted cold with Spencer, but she later confesses to him how even though she’s the Queen she really doesn’t have anyone. She wants Spencer to take that title of friend, but in order to do that he needs to get over his schoolboy crush on her. Ouch, guys never want to hear that your Majesty.
Well, that had been one bump in the road and it seems that Helena was likely to encounter more when she’s met with Liam and Robert wanting to speak with her. Knowing that he has Robert’s support Liam leads him to believe that he now has a fighting chance at being future King. Unfortunately, the Queen isn’t in agreement. Technically speaking it had never been Liam’s born right to be King. He had only been given that chance upon Robert’s “death.” However, now with Robert back the only one deserving of taking that title is the eldest son. It’s hard being a mother, being torn between two sons and forced to choose sides. The second that Liam’s should sag in defeat and he takes his leave the truth actually comes out. “How could you put me in that position…you tell him you’ll support him and then make me the bad guy. We both know that he’s not ready.” Well s–t turns out Robert had never even intended to let Liam take the throne. Robert just wanted his mom to be the one to knock him down.
Sorrows, Drinks and Reveals
“You give some s—t advice sometimes. You know that,” Liam tells Jasper who has now joined him at the bar. With the eventful day they’ve had they each are in need of a drink. Liam is still moping about Kathryn (why honestly we don’t even know) and Jasper tells him it’s high time he gets over it and accepts it. Ha! Jasper might want to take that back when Liam reveals that Eleanor had been spending time with a man, a Prince no less.
Drinks didn’t seem to help Liam because he’s still not in the best of moods and takes it out on Willow. Since she’s in charge of social media he’s not pleased with the photo that had been posted of Robert and Kathryn. Finally, Willow comes cleans and reminds Liam about her feelings towards him. “I told you I wouldn’t be the girl waiting for you to show up, Liam, and yet here I am waiting for you to show up.” How does Liam respond to this? “I never asked you to.” Really Liam? Someone please smack him upside the head because he’s being an idiot. The comment wounding Willow and making her right then decide that their relationship will strictly be professional. Looking forward to when that bites him in the you know what because he deserves it.
Meanwhile, Jasper is standing outside of Eleanor’s door. He’s finally back at the palace after having one final confrontation with Harper. Handing her the document that reveals Boone’s story, but also requesting she do a background check on Sebastian. Is he doing this because Sebastian has something to do with Boone’s story or is it because of his broken heart?
This episode felt more like a filler due to the fact that not much was going on with our favorite family. It was spent with them spending their day with someone. Queen Helena with Jack, Eleanor with Sebastian, Robert with Kathryn, Jasper with a nosey reporter and King Cyrus with a fox. There wasn’t a lot packed into it, but it is preparing fans for what’s about to happen in the last upcoming two episodes. We’re still wanting to know the damage of what Harper’s story will do and the effect it will have. What’s the story behind Sebastian and Jack and most importantly will Jasper and Eleanor find their way back to each other? All of this will very likely be revealed in the last two episodes and we’re already ready and waiting!
