The Royals – The Counterfeit Presentment of Two Brothers
By: Luke Joseph
Let’s get ready to rumble! On Sunday’s episode of “The Royals” it was the battle royal between Liam and Robert (William Moseley and Max Brown). Before the boxing fight took place though, it was the People’s Gala that ended up resulting in some interesting pairings between the royal family. Some forging new friendships and others starting right back where they left off.
People’s Gala Pairings
The People’s Gala Auction Winners turned to be a better pairing. For better or worse? You decide.
Queen Helena and Jack
Liam and Fair Ladies (cougars)
Robert and Kathryn
Eleanor and Sebastian
Cinnamon and Lord Westcott
Helena and the Entrepreneur
The last episode of “The Royals” dealt with figgy pudding and the Queen and her Lord Chamberlain getting hot and heavy. Sunday’s episode also showcased that this wasn’t just a onetime thing. Viewers have already joined the Team Helena and Spencer (Elizabeth Hurley and Jules Knight) ship, but a new complication arose. Upon her pairing, it seems that the Queen actually made a connection with the entrepreneur Jack Parker (Doug Allen). Jack had won an afternoon tea with the Queen and it looks like she has been charmed by the man. The worst part? Spencer looks crestfallen entering the room to see the Queen and her new suitor. Looks like Spencer wasn’t just at her Majesty’s pleasure, but has genuinely fallen for her. Who is this mystery man? Is Jack the real deal or does he have a story behind him? There was something he said that caught the viewer’s suspicion. First, he’s American and second Queen Helena spoke about how he’s succeeded all because of luck. Last week though we didn’t officially meet Jasper’s father he was in some way introduced. Is there a chance that this Jack fellow is actually Jasper’s dad and he’s coming to do the job his son couldn’t finish?
Prince Robert and Cinderella
Queen Helena had tasked Willow (Genevieve Gaunt) to compile a list of suitable women fit for a King. This consisted of her asking Robert random questions like if he was stranded on a desert, awkward considering he had been. She then moves onto what Harry Potter house he’d match himself with. There had been a little flirty banter on their part, but it seems Willow still has her sights set on Liam. So much so she even tried her luck at winning a date with him but alas lost.
One ticket, one ticket for the raffle is all Kathryn (Christina Wolfe) bought and yet fate intervened by her getting the date with Robert. Scratch that, it wasn’t fate that intervened. It was Robert who had rigged it. The Prince’s mission? To make a Cinderella story out of his and Kathryn’s love story. Kathryn had won a wine tour with him and to rack up the brownie points he has requested that the press take their ‘first’ official photo together. Later on, Robert surprises her with the romantic gesture of a private dinner set for the two of them. Why? Because this will give him a chance to be with her publicly, which is what she had always wanted. “This is a way of introducing you to the public without the press clamoring for a story. I just want to be with you here like this,” he says. Well, it’s a nice love story, but I’m still rooting for Frosty the Caterpillar and the Princess.
Princess Eleanor & the Moroccan Prince
Suffering from her breakup and heartbreak, Eleanor (Alexandra Park) finds herself not satisfied with any of the body guards that have been hired for her security detail. Rather than going down that dark and reckless path filled with drugs, alcohol and sex she throws all of her energy and time setting up for the People’s Gala. One requirement? Doing an interview with none other than Harper (Margo Stilley) a/k/a the woman responsible for why Jasper and Eleanor aren’t in a good place. How the hell had she even gotten access to the palace? She’s a basic unknown reporter from Vegas and yet she got clearance into the palace. Does she have a big name supporting her from the shadows, maybe someone on the inside? Only time will tell. What we do know is this reporter can’t take a hint as she constantly presents Eleanor with the question “What does she do for her personal life and is there a man in her life?” Twice she presents Eleanor with the question to which Eleanor kindly tries to overlook until it is asked again, causing the Princess to kick her out. Too bad she couldn’t have kicked her off the balcony.
Prince Sebastian (Toby Sandeman) briefly met Eleanor when he had asked her for an almost like dominatrix photo of her pinning him down in the ring with her heel. Later, it turns out he’s the one that wins the croquet date with our favorite Princess. Surprisingly, the two end up hitting it off and Eleanor even finds herself opening up to him saying, “I decided to love someone and it was scary and confusing…but so thrilling and then it wasn’t.” Damn Eleanor, way to hit us where it hurts. So, what words of wisdom does he bestow on Eleanor? “The sun still rises, and the world doesn’t end…one day it gets better and eventually you smile.” For now, though, she needs to learn to trust people. What he doesn’t understand is each time that she does she suffers because of it. Sebastian seems like a nice guy, but then again people thought Mandy and Beck had good intentions and they turned out to be jerks. Does this Prince have a hidden agenda or is he simply an all around good guy who can be the Princess’s new friend? Deepest apologies Sebastian, but we’re putting you only in the friend zone, no romantic involvement with Eleanor for you. That spot is taken as soon as her stubborn Bodyguard gets his s–t together.
Fair Ladies and Naughty Baby
Cindy Dame Cinnamon (Scarlett Archer) has been granted a new title all thanks to Cyrus (Jake Maskall) because she has done his dirty work. Honestly, she deserved it considering she had to seduce Lord Westcott (Richard Cunningham), the lead parliament member. This guy is the one selecting the Privy Council committee. Now, it wouldn’t have been all that bad seeing as he’s a powerful man, but his idea of a good time in the bedroom is flinch worthy. Pretty much his tastes in the bedroom deal with him wearing a diaper and crawling around with a pacifier in his mouth. Cyrus’s evil plan worked out because just as the naughty baby was crawling around Cyrus entered the bedroom and was greeted to a not so wonderful sight. Wonderful for Cyrus because it gives him something to hold over Lord Westcott. “I advise you then to learn toward members of parliament who appreciate a king who places less value on the book and more on the value of discretion….so nobody has to find out what a naughty baby you’ve been.” Liam didn’t really get any interesting pairings considering it was Cyrus’s ex wife and her band of Fair Ladies. Summed up, Liam got stuck with cougars who were more than eager for him to take off his shirt. Thankfully, having a family member there helped with them not getting so handy and he had a nice cheering section for the match. Still, it would have been nice if Willow had won because maybe then our dear Prince would stop being so blind and see what or rather who is in front of him.
Brother vs. Brother KO
We’ve finally reached the main event. It’s Prince vs. Prince and Brother vs. Brother. Side note: Eleanor looked absolutely stunning as the Ring Girl and had she sent Jasper a selfie like that he most likely would have run, flown or swam wherever he was to get to her. Cyrus, now entering the ring, announces that his money is on the underdog, Liam. If Liam ends up winning the match Cyrus will double his donation.
Ever since Robert’s return tensions have run high between him and his brother – from his relationship with Kathryn to feeling like he is stuck in his brother’s shadow. This event gave Liam the chance to vent out his frustrations without being seen as in the wrong. During the match Robert gets in a few good punches and just as the audience believed he was down for the count, Liam was able to deliver a final blow to Robert’s face knocking him out. Winning the match, Liam triumphantly has his gloves raised in the air and is declared a champion. Viewers can see this win alone has helped lift a little bit of the weight off his shoulders.
Cleaned off from the match, Liam enters the room and it’s clear as day that he’s feeling a bit better – not only about himself but with his relationship with Robert as well. Maybe he didn’t fully get the girl, but he got one win over his brother causing him to be more pleasant with Robert. Unfortunately, Robert knocks down Liam (physically and emotionally) when he reveals that he let Liam win the fight for show and to benefit the charity. “Did you think you actually beat me, little brother,” Robert says with amusement laced in his tone. Angry that Robert could taunt him like that, Liam challenges Robert for a rematch. Sadly, with the way he delivers each blow to Liam, it’s easy to see he’s confirming the truth that he threw the match.
“I know you’re going to keep getting back up because that’s what you do, but I will keep putting you back down and I don’t want to do that I love you brother,” Robert says. Does he though? Couldn’t Robert have just swallowed his pride and allowed his brother to believe he had won? Instead, he shatters whatever fraction of self worth Liam had and matters are made worse when he watches Robert walk off with Kathryn in his arms. I just want to add in Kathryn had seen Liam look broken and she hadn’t even batted a lash, maybe now it just shows she was settling for Liam since she lost the other brother.
“Say Something”
Taking Sebastian’s advice and, well maybe even Jasper’s from back in the day, Eleanor decides it’s time to trust someone. This results in her requesting Mr. Hill to hire Rosie (Sarah Armstrong) as her new security detail. With the impressive take down Rosie did earlier after an ex-bodyguard tried to attack the Princess, she’s definitely worth taking a shot on. Who knows? Maybe this might work out to be something good and Eleanor can find herself another new friend to add into her life. Boy wise, there’s only one guy that still has a hold on her heart and that’s Jasper. It’s been two weeks since they’ve broken up and two weeks since his absence, but she’s still longing for him. “Say something,” she texts him, but when a response doesn’t come up she shuts off the lights, goes to bed and probably dreams about being in Jasper’s arms again.
Since getting his “juju” back, Cyrus has been doing everything in his power to secure his spot as king. That includes creating an even deeper wedge between the brothers. Right now, he’s depending on breaking Liam and that deals with constantly reminding him of how he’s second best. Cyrus stumbles across Liam in the hallway, battered and bruised as he watches him watch Robert. “I’ve lived in the shadow of a hero and older brother long enough to know the feeling that comes from that look. It never goes away,” he’s quick to remind Liam. But he refuses to live in his uncle’s shadow of resentment towards his brother. You might be wrong though Liam considering you literally just punched a mirror because you’re not a fan of the man looking back at you. The man who was groomed to be King and now forgotten.
